Hey Rob, I'm surprised that with so many layers of Balsa in the nose block that it doesn't make the aircraft too nose heavy. I guess it doesn't. And back to wooden wheels - it's interesting how some kits come with wooden wheels and some with plastic. Interesting stuff as always....😀👍.

Hi Cosmo. I think its mainly because of where the CG is which is normally part way down the wings which means there is a lot more fuselage and the tail planes to the rear counterbalancing the nose weight. Yes I am still undecided whether I like the wood wheels better than the plastic myself.

Mate that's looking good!! I especially liked the Cowling. I do have a couple of questions... and you're the Man to ask. On the Cowling, would it be easier to fill the steps a bit with Putty? Or would it add too much Nose weight? The Wing Struts... Balsa seems quite flimsy for a structural member... Would Pine or Basswood be any better? Or again would that be too much weight penalty? With these little Planes, I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out what too much weight would even be! Cheers, Carmine ✈🚂🚙

I think both would add too much weight Carmine. In reality these planes were designed for indoor flying where the length of time in the air is the main measurement. Well I think that's what they do lol. I think as long as the weight is well distributed and balanced then it would just mean lower flight times to not being able to take off. Oh yeah that seems to be another big part of the indoor free flight where they start with the plane on the ground and it has to take off under its own power.

I had a feeling... I remember playing with much crappier Rubber Band Aeroplanes as a kid. Couldn't get more than 5 seconds of flight, until my Dad explained Centre of Gravity to me! Try getting CoG on something with a 1425mm Wingspan, and weighing just over 1500 Grams! 😳 I truly want to build one, or three, for Indoor flight. Yeah they're fiddly, but look so rewarding to build!
