In regards to the discussion around 21:00, as an engineer, I want to see everything. I want to know every little detail and design decision. Even the decisions where you pick something random. Following along the engineering process is a story. It's what drew me to all your channels in the first place. I see a trend as creators get more popular, that they tend to remove the details and add more "polish" to the video but for me this is inferior. It's why I think Mark Rober's videos have gone downhill. I must admit that the majority of your audiences probably disagree with me and if you're trying to grow your channels then you should probably give the people what they want, but I'll stand by my opinion.

There is always two options for this as a KZbin: 1. you add chapters to the video so the person can easily skip anything they don't want to see 2. you do like Colin Furse has just done and create a 2nd channel with more indepth information so the video on the main channel is a shorter length

This! Soo many channels get boring as they become more popular because what makes a video "good content" from a youtube perspective also makes it loose all the interesting little details that may appeal to us nerds but most people dont care about! It makes the platform loose so much of its educational potential because gathering a community purely comprised of peope who DO care about those details, and growing a channel based on that is impossible. It's not even that there's not enough of us, it's just that the algorithm does a poor job of categorizing and feeding us the content that may not be popular in general but to us is gold!

Great podcast perfect 5/7 reminds me that its prefectly natural to consistently fail at execution of ideas that were bad to begin with and were also bad to end with - but theres sometimes a feeling of satisfaction when you finish or a feeling of satisfaction that your recognize the idea is bad and give up halfway.

That escalating the lasers until the goggles are so thick they cant see bit reminded me of something that I heard happened in WW1. They shelled the enemy trench with coloured gas regularly for weeks so the enemy would be stuck in gas masks constantly. then swapped the shells to coloured smoke and charged the trench with unimpaired vision while the enemy couldn't see shit out of their masks

In regards to the offset weight BattleBot design comment at 48:22, look up Depth Charge at NHRL. This is a good example of what's been called a "bristle bot." Its horizontal spinning blade is unbalanced and vibrates the chassis, which is sitting on angled bristles that guide the bot forward. Turning is accomplished by throttling the weapon up or down and letting the torque twist the entire bot in place. Not a very nimble design but you usually get a weight bonus for not having wheels, so you can be larger than your opponent.

One kind of armor (i guess it's more of a defense system) i want to see explored more in fiction is electromagnetically-controlled plasma/ projectile fields. I lived in a trailer with a mouse problem. We set up many glue traps. At one point, I had to throw out a black rat snake that had managed to get across 4 glue traps with a mouse on the other end. That sealed the deal for me. I will never use one again. Both mouse and snake were alive. I felt horrible. If I need pest control, it will be as fast and painless as possible.

So I feel like if you had a turret with either a gun or a fiber laser, and you strap two nikon Z8s to it. One has a wide zoom and the other has a telephoto zoom. If you can find a way to use the cameras facial and target recognition to aim the turret. Wide cam finds a target, tele cam fine tunes in on it and when the head is centered you fire the gun or scan a laser over them. I feel like you could definitely get that sort of system with a gun to be light enough to mount on one of those bigger octorotors for farm or cinema use
