Building your Overlanding Vehicle. Where do you Start??

Viewers Question: What modifications do I need to make to my new Hilux 4x4 Double Cab? I plan to Overland and tour extensively with my Family.
Here are Mic's Do's & Don't when it comes to modifying your 4WD for Overlanding.
And Mic's list of things you need to look at first when you want to start.
First, Budget, You need to know how much and how long it will take you if you are looking at building the Overlander in stages.
Do not fit cheap gear, it will let you down. Do not compromise the safety of you and your family, and cross-border recovery is very expensive and unpleasant.
Bear in mind as you go on trips, things will change, and you will modify here and there, to make things work for you.
My List:
Tyres. Proper offroad all-terrain Tyres
17" rims
a good tyre pressure monitoring system - It will come in handy!
a good mapping system.
a good canopy
a dusk-proof kit with the canopy
the vehicle electrics - you should not run your camping electrics from the vehicle's main battery.
a good battery management system
a basic toolkit
tyre accessories: Tyre Gauge, Compressor & Deflator
and then last but not least. a 4x4 Suspension upgrade.

Hie Mic. I have a question for a used car budget overland build. Which one would be the best to start with. A dual cab or a wagon.

id go wagon , shorter wheelbase most , no need for roof top tents , sleep in side ,put a platform rack on the roof for gear ,all so can use it as a place to get off the ground , enjoy a view , race ,star gaze ,ute s do have more payload

I love wagons over dual cabs. I have had both. Dual cabs are more versatile with way more space once you fit a decent metal canopy. I currently drive a Land Cruiser 76 wagon. Love this truck!! Next though I will go for the Land Cruiser 79 dual cab due to available space. Also, more room up top with roof racks front and rear. Wagon probably a little better on trails etc due to shorter wheel base. Longer wheel base on dual cab better for towing. Decisions, Decisions!!!
