Love the car ! I have a 2007, Jaguar XK Convertible 1 of 97 , Winter Gold, 45,000 miles on the clock. I use a Tooth Brush on it , every spot is clean, and I drive it, and show it in Car Shows. Spent four years looking for one, ... Never been in the rain, A smile on my face from ear to ear. I enjoy just looking at it. And the drive, the sound, the feel as it moves down the road....Nothing like a Jaguar ! The Dream is here. Lord March, ‘no replicas’, although they are new, they are not a replica, made by jaguar themselves, every single last part is correct. A replica is a copy, a kit, these, are new, yes, but original, made my jaguar, for jaguar, to the exact same specifications. The passion for these cars.............incredible!!!!!!! Very very impressive

What a magnificent build! I don't give a hoot what the "purists" say, that automobile is not a replica. In America, we like to personalize our vehicles and that is exactly what I've done to my '72 E Type. Most people like what I've done, but some "purists" don't. Those are the people that think that personalizing means that you put your initials on the licence plate but couldn't turn a screw into a piece of cardboard if their lives depended upon it. I say Bravo on your build and can only add, I wish that I had a spare million pounds to buy the next one you create. I would never turn my nose up at that.

The Jaguar XKE as far as I'm concerned was the pinnacle of automobiles in my lifetime. It may not even be the most desirable for the average guy, and new cars of today should probably not try to emulate it, but it is perched higher than all others due to its style and also design. Time marches on, and it wouldn't make sense to compare the XKE to a Tesla for instance, or to any modern car. It's fitting a precision timepiece is given with the car. To knock the XKE off its perch, you would have to go back to that time and out-class it at its own point in history. It was perfect in its time; by definition there can't be many that hold that spot.

I was down at Connaught Race Engines in the late 90's having Tim Swadkin dyno one of my engines and there was a lightweight E type in the workshop at the time, there was also a chipped up Cossy and the owner of the Jag and the Cossie were having a 'discussion' about which of the cars was faster, it eventually came to a test on the road and apparently the Jag wiped the floor with the Ford, happy days then! Beautiful beautiful car. I'm moved and pleased that Jag can find the talent to even do this in these times that have so devalued skill, and where the understanding of skill and commitment to quality FIRST is so lacking. Beautiful car, wonderful project. Far as I'm concerned, these are REAL lightweight E-Types that just don't have any history yet, not "replicas".

Wow! Those Lightweights are really beautiful. I know die hard Jaguar fans are gonna through rotten bananas on me, but I had never considered an E-type as a beautiful car. XJ13 - yes, amazingly beautiful, but not a standard E-type of any series. But the Lightweight is quite amazing! The rear quarters are so dramatically shaped! Quite a remarkable design achievement! Mark Evans is so worried about getting these new cars showed off at Goodwood, while this seems to be something personal (for the new owners). They buy cars for their liking. Yeah, these cars have no history, but they are new, so the chassis rigidity is a lot higher, they will handle like they did in the 60s, you can never experience that in an old car, when panels start to walk around after stress and age.

@kevins59116 жыл бұрын
Yeah and another performance advantage these new lightweights have is the fact that the metallurgy of aluminum has gotten significantly more advanced over the past 60yrs, meaning a stiffer structure, lighter weight and a stronger engine block casting, because of this i agree that it won't be fair to allow these lightweight remake's to compete with the original's as they would be out-performed on track. Another thing to consider is how these new cars are going to affect the value's of the original's, either car collectors who wan't a lightweight will hold off untill a original comes on the auction block or they may be ok with paying less for a new lightweight when one goes up for sale and that could cause the value of the originals to not increase as steadily or even lose some value as a result

Well I'm impressed, an absolutely beautiful car built to amazing standards by fanatical people who love what they do and take the whole thing deadly serious. What does it matter what it costs, I know which I'd rather have, one of these cars or a bigger bank ballance, no contest at all and the lucky owners obviously agree. Who cares what anyone else thinks and anyone calling it a replica is missing the point in my opinion, they don't understand what has been done or why. I was a little disappointed about the comments, "what if they don't like it or don't think it's worth the money", I thought that was silly. All the owners were hand picked as the very lucky few who are allowed to buy one because they share in the passion for these cars, they aren't buying it to make money, it's about being part of the undertaking and having such an amazing and exclusive car and all that entails. These cars may not have the same history as the earlier ones but you can't say they don't have history, they obviously do. A real pleasure to watch what went into this project and a great move by Jaguar. Thanks for putting the video out there for me to enjoy.

Six cars that were commissioned but never built does not equate to being a replica, yes they will have no racing history but also will not of been molested, crashed and shagged by everyone else. Car is beautiful no doubt about it. It was funny to listen to the owners of the original cars, and what they had too say of the tribute car. I was restoring an old military jeep and I was getting very picky about a particular part, and my father was standing over me and said you’re making it to perfect they did not come off the assembly line like that. He actually drove the particular Jeep that I was restoring so he would know. That made me pay attention in the whole other way. It seems like they’re trying to do away with every little flaw that the original may have had, and I think that takes away from it a little bit. I guess if you want perfect have an assembly line robot do it, but when the car is made by hand no one car is the same or perfect.

Anybody who has been to the Goodwood revival will have seen the cars being raced beyond their original limits and crashed as a result. Once you have the replace the bodywork with a new panel, it is not "Original." It is an old car with new parts. The owners of these cars are the worst type of schoolboy bullies. They live in a rarefied world where they think they are better that another person simply because they have money. I applaud Jaguar for building these beautiful cars. Replicas? Bullshit! Delayed models? Bullshit!They are what they are. Jaguar E-type lightweights from 21st century as opposed to 20th centuryThe provenance of the 60's cars is in no way sullied by these.Manufacturing methods and the resources available to Jaguar have moved on. These 6 are built to far higher standard (fit and finish) than was required for the 1960's race cars. It had to be - the buyers demands and Jaguars reputation . . . I don't see that anything other than perfection in these 6 being acceptable to the market.I commend Jaguar for paying homage. Bravo!20 years from now in the classic car market there will still be a distinction but values of these "hi-standard" versions will be comparable as we will be one human generation removed and the legends from the 50's and 60's will have passed. Harsh, I admit. But true nonetheless.

worldentropy Not saying Jaguar necessarily has experience which excels that of an experienced coachbuilder. But the E type was built by Jaguar. This means that no car built by Jaguar can, by definition, be considered a replica. you could consider it a homage car, but if Jaguar releases it as an E type lightweight, then it is an E type lightweight. You cannot dispute this.

Did they use Lucas electrics - the Prince of Darkness?
@johnlarryedward3 жыл бұрын
The greatest problem with Lucas Electric if they tried to be too, shall we say, traditional. For the plug-in connectors they used pure copper rather than brass. Pure copper has no resiliency like brass does for the holding connectors together in place, four example the spade connectors. They simply come apart at the most inopportune times. I have had this experience many times with my 1964 MGB my 1960 MGA and my 1969 Jaguar XKE, but since I am an electrician and an Electronics technician this was no insurmountable problem for me. For a person with minimal mechanical and or electrical aptitude keeping ahead of the game with Lucas electric it's an expensive challenge. Spring tension on the fuse clips is another engineering failure on the part of Lucas Electric...

Their in-house convention is to refer to the first-built prototype car as "Car Zero". They then number the customer cars "Car 1", "Car 2" etc. That may be why they refer to them as Nos. 1 & 4? Possibly - the "missing cars" thing is perhaps credible but really no more than hype. The sun shone and the car sparkled like a bucket full of Diamonds. Why didn't i stop and buy it, I have no answer to that, This was in around 1968, I feel sick every time i think about it. Lord March and the Owner of #1 definitely have it right, it really is a "replica", when you get right down to it - although they are very, very nice replicas. That said, I was glad to hear the owner of #4 say that he would drive it/race it. My fear was that all 6 of these would be stuck in glass cases and put in some rich guy's/gal's closet - pardon my opinion, but rich people have really screwed up the vintage car hobby. I don't own any million dollar vintage cars, but I have had a couple of nice E-types and other similar cars. While I take very good care of my cars, I also drive my cars ... hard. If I had the money, I would have been lobbying to get on the buy list.

Cars are my passion! But they are like a living thing. Like the Perfect Woman. She can merried but she has to be free to be who she is . The way her maker made her.

Love the old Jag's , but the over marketing and extra's make it OTT, they spent so much time on it, they probably lost money. Make's me wonder if some of these guy's are reason Ford/BMW had problems getting this company to turn a decent profit. Jaguar is back now with TATA, they are turning Jaguar around, as everybody seems to love the new F-type, they look amazing on the road and even Porche/BMW are worried. WELL DONE JAGUAR, keep up the great work, putting the brand back into mind's and demand of the public, I believe they are taking on more staff and sales are going up. Where BMW/FORD failed TATA has succeeded!

Not so sure that BMW ever had anything to do with Jaguar - they own Mini,owned Land Rover at one point,but I don't think that they ever got hold of Jaguar. The JLR nomenclature is relatively recent, definitely post BMW. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

I grow weary of all the self-professed experts below. Here's a simple question for you: If Jag's are so good, why has the company been sold so many times? Could it be that it cannot turn enough profit to be self-sustaining? If so, why? Maybe Jags are not as good as you all allude to. High pricetags and speeds do not always mean high quality and durability.

As a former XKE owner, and my best friend also owning a Mk X sedan, I can tell you why. They were originally engineered to be driven around quaint little English villages in their year-round temperate climate. When you went beyond that they were unreliable and the E type did not have passenger comfort in mind. When you spend more time under the hood (or "bonnet" if you prefer) then behind the wheel, it gets old fast.

They're not replicas, they're a new batch of production and now to a higher standard than the original. What if Jaguar had never stopped building them? Would they still be considered replicas? Yes there will be a difference, and I can see why you might not want them to race against 1960's cars but then that's because of the age not that it's fake. And when people talk about it lacking the pedigree they're wrong, it has the same pedigree as the 1960's models. The individual cars doesn't but the model does. Just like if one of the old ones had been rolled straight from the production line into a shed and been sitting there for all these years.

Aircraft carriers START at 29 million pounds in weight. The heaviest (Nimitz class) weighs 194 million pounds. So your concern is unfounded, it seems. Can a mind blown that easily be restored, d'ya think?
