Transform Your Speakers With Rustoleum Peel Coat! My Krix Lyrix Gold Speakers needed a new lease on life and I needed them to suit the new upstairs mini-theatre room I'm creating so at the suggestion of one of my subscribers, I decided to give Rustoleum Peel Coat a go to change the colours from Jarrah which is red, to a matt black!
My Setup is an ultra short throw 4K VAVA laser TV with a 100" ambient light rejection screen

Great tips! I like to repaint or stain my speakers and subs to match my spaces. Also my wife likes it much better when they blend in with the room instead of standing out. I used a similar product called Plastidip to paint my mini split air conditioner in place. No more bright white box hanging on the wall in the middle of my dark theater! Came out great and you can’t beat the cost.

Yep either this or plastic dip would be a great temporary way to change a speakers look. Wonder how hard it would be to remove once fully cured?

Pretty decently hard actually. Perfect for speakers as they aren't touched or moved much. I'm super happy with how they turned out. And when I'm over it or want to do something funky, I can peel it off.

Stoked I found this vid mate. Quick one for you. I had to peel off my veneer on the sides of my focal chorus floor standers. I now have exposed MDF or chipboardy looking stuff. Can I just paint this product straight on to that?

As long as it's nice and smooth, you just build up the layers as per the video and you will see it self levels and forms a nice coating. Still have my speakers looking like they do in the video :)

Yes, they can. You still want to be gentle with it - but the finish toughens up after a couple of days. It's durable to go onto a car so it's pretty safe for speakers.

I just got some old JBL 44 Lancers but they both have some water damage on the bottom and two corners (slight swelling). I wonder if I could paint the bottom, and about a half inch around the bottom side edges, black to hide the water damage?

You might need to sand them flush first but that could work if you use tape to get a nice border.

@@BuildMontage Yeah that's the issue. Under the veneer is particle board so if I sand I will reach flaky old swelled up particle board.

Thanks mate - patience is the key - slow light layers and build it up gradually. I had to cover the Made in Australia sticker so I didn't paint over it. It's a rarity now as everythings made in China! Krix is proudly made here in Australia. 'straya!

There are lots of colours available - I initially wanted the IKEA blue but it's too precise to try and match with a rattle can.

$6.27? Looks good, but it's around $14 a can near my house in Los Angeles. Even Amazon has it for $14.23. Trying it in Plasti Dip right now, which is less, but has a satin finish verses the matte. Wonder if I could just top it off with a couple coats of Peel Coat to see if it works. Nice video.
