After watching a million diy videos, i Went and got some tube covers from home depot today. These are the best option IMO for govee lights since theyre 30mm apart.

If I want to make tubes of 1 or 1'20 meters long, what si the length of the led? How long is that in the video? The link to the tube doesn't work for me. I have govee lights in my studio and are great! What do you mean about 30 mm apart?

Love this video it's what I've been looking for. I kinda resent the concept of paying more to diffuse the leds than the cost of the lights themselves. Wondering if you can get thinner tubes even hosepipe style ones to make it a little less bulky.

What is the difference in black or white vinyl paper ?
@cdsentone383211 ай бұрын
It looked like the holes in the caps that came with the tubes were centered. Is there a reason you didn't just use the centered holes so that the lights would be in the middle instead of on one side. Wouldn't that have made the LEDs diffused evenly and not had a back side of the tube?
@BuildsWithV11 ай бұрын
I think I accidentally did that, I don’t remember at this point my reason 😅 in the end tho, the light was not diffused enough so I ended up pushing the dowel towards the back side into those grooves I made and then it diffused fine. Overall this was mostly an experiment and a learning experience. There are many things I’d do differently for sure
@cdsentone383211 ай бұрын
@@BuildsWithV I wonder if you could add tubes of white baking paper or waxed paper on the inside of the tube to add more diffusion.

Is there any flickering on higher frame rates? ie 60p / 120p with a shutter speed of 1/125 - 1/250
@BuildsWithV4 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe I saw any flickering at 120 but I will check. 240 there was (on my iPhone)
@BatEatsMoth3 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't. It uses a DC adapter, so you don't get that 100% NVF modulation at 120 Hz like you do from direct AC.
@BuildsWithV3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I tried 240 again (forgot to get back to you) and still no flickering. So looks great

I’m trying to get started with the LED tubes while having zero knowledge of LED specs. I’m wanting to use these tubes for sports videos with a decent amount of slow motion 1/250 or even faster shutter speed. What spec/stat should I be looking at when buying LEDs to know if the refresh rate can handle this shutter speed without flicker?

Pretty good! I wonder about the brightness though. They don't seem bright enough for use in an otherwise well lit environment. If these are the only lights in the scene they may work, but even then I don't think they would put out all that much light. Really good idea for DIY tho!
@BuildsWithV3 жыл бұрын
That may be true. Haven’t tested these in many light situations but I did have my ring light on full brightness and these were still vivid. Any brighter and I’d say they’d be washed out honestly. Thanks so much 🙏

Any thoughts on sanding the exterior of the tube vs using vinyl? I wonder how it would compare in brightness to your eyes. Lol Tbh when you finished wrapping it in vinyl I clapped! not at all an easy feat, well done
@BuildsWithV3 жыл бұрын
I actually tried the sanding method and unfortunately the leds were still very visible through it. I tried various grits as well. I also tried the paint method and that works about as good as vinyl but a bit messy. The vinyl gave it a nice texture and overall the beat look with the matte finish. I did try gloss as well and it looked great but too shiny. Basically just settled on matte vinyl and looks great. Thanks so much 🙏 There’s a few small bubbles in the vinyl but 🤫 don’t tell anyone 😂
@jaceace323 жыл бұрын
@@BuildsWithV i appreciate that reply. Just about to get going on a 1.7ft tube with my 144 3.3ft strip folded back to back and hopefully centered in the tube by suspension. That or cutting down and placing the half strips next to each other and taped to one side of the tube. Wanting to use this as a sconce so not too worried about the back side but more concerned brightness... now i'm kinda wondering if 360 light will give me more illumination then back to back
@BuildsWithV3 жыл бұрын
@@jaceace32 I’m honestly not too sure which way would provide the most like honestly. I wanted 360 degree lighting so I can show off the front to the camera and the back can illuminate the background or whatever it is I’m shooting. Since only about 50% of the leds will be facing the front I’d assume laying them down and facing as many as possible towards the front would provide the brightest lighting.

Why sand it if you're wrapping in vinyl? Couldn't you also use wax paper?
@BuildsWithV2 жыл бұрын
I sanded the first one off camera because I planned to paint it but also to diffuse the light a bit more. Wanted to make sure both were the same so I still sanded the second one. Can use wax paper but when I tried it, it bled more light than I wanted. The wrap wasn’t perfect and I’m sure there’s way better ways of doing this. I kinda went in blindly and this is what I came up with 😅

Hey dude i just wanted to ask if you had to guess what is the wattage for the lian li strimer cables as i have a 750w powersupply and the estimated wattage on pc part picker is 518w without the cables so i just wanted to make sure its gonna be safe. also nice vid :)
@BuildsWithV4 жыл бұрын
For the Strimer cables I’m not too sure what they’re estimated at unfortunately. It should be perfectly fine, I have a 750w bronze psu as well and tons of other stuff in my PC without any issues. Upgrading to 850w gold soon to be safe cause I’m putting a 3080 in it, otherwise it’s fine

Pretty sure you could have just run a single 4ft line of LEDs on a flat length of wood instead of wrapping 16ft of them around a dowel.
@BuildsWithV3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can and it works okay but it’s not 360° which I could have solved with some soldering etc. but I wanted to try it thins way and I needed them to be brighter
@expression36392 жыл бұрын
Running them along a dowel and making sure the LEDs are offset properly would have worked too. The chips on my strips have rather long traces which makes them difficult to wind around a dowel like this so if I end up doing a project similar to this, I will have to do as Neon Specter suggested. My strips have 32 LEDs per meter but I know that some LED strips are even more dense. The best solution will highly depend on what kind of strips you have.

wax paper will let more brightness come out of the tube
@BuildsWithV Жыл бұрын
Yeah back then I tried it but I think I just used too many LEDs cause no matter what I tried I couldn’t get the individual LEDs to not be visible. Ended up using this and it worked but kinda dim. Maybe some day I’ll give this another shot.
