Thank you. I studied for years with a teacher who was not big on Dharma talk. Any pearls of wisdom was off the mat. Now that I am getting certified, I want to do the Dharma opening.

Yes Denise! it's so important to honor that and know that the Yogic wisdom is a fundamental part of the practice that can be incorporated into every class. Plus, it's a great practice in strengthening your voice. Everyone teaches differently. I know some teachers who teach strictly Asana and some who love to weave philosophy into their classes. Follow what feels true and inspiring for you!

I'm taking my first 200 hr YTT right now and our next assignment is to create a Dharma talk -- 5 minutes! (I think she wants us to try to do a longer one so that we feel more prepared later on). So glad I found this video for a little more inspiration. I'm still feeling very nervous because I want it to be special, but this made me feel a little better about not having to be so serious, but authentic. Looks like I'm going back to the Yoga Sutras for a little more inspiration :)

Great advice.....I always provide Dharma talk while setting sacred space. I find it can last 5-6 mins while giving them breathing as well. The best part is see when people are finally still....when all the dust settles and then we move ....great advice ...!!!

Ahhh yes! Thank you for sharing this. And thank you for understanding the importance and value or Dharma talks! The amount of time I usually spend on a dharma talk depends on the length of the class. Namaste!

lucky lakshman hey! Thanks for your comment. Can you tell me what you want to know about ishwara pranidhana? Meaning, I’m what context? How to teach it to students? How to practice it as a teacher? Let me know so I can answer your question with a video accurately! Namaste.

Build Your Personal Yoga Business Thank you Shayana for acknowledging. It'd be great If you could make a video covering these points. 1.it's fundamental meaning and how a teacher can explain to his/her students in a simplified way 2. what can it offer to different people in the society. He may be a normal vegetable seller in a busy market like India or a criminal who has got death sentence and intensly trying to let go of the regret. 3. If time permits, please share an example in your life how practicing Ishwar Pranidan helped you so that it can inspire us. Namaste!🙏

Awesome! I wish you an enlightening experience at your YTT! One of my favorite books for Dharma Talks is 'An Offering Of Leaves' by Ruth Lauer-Manenti and I sometimes use the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Satchidananda -- both on Amazon... Namaste!
