I wanna do this to my van and add 4x4. It's front wheel drive and parts are available off the 4motion version in newer models. I can't wait to get into it. It's gonna be the only VW Caddy in my area with a stupid lift, multi-link in the rear, 4motion, 29 inch A/T on banded steelies, steel bumpers, winch and winch plate. I love the 1.9 TDI diesel that's in it. It sounds like a mini Cummins but not as rough. "Chooo"

very informative! 23:17 isn´t the UP-travel mainly limited by the coil and bumpstop? afaik the triple bypass can only control the movement of the coil while going 5" up or 7" down in a better manner? Or did I miss anything? You will be running "standard" plus 2" coils, isnt it?
@DanielKistler15 күн бұрын
Up and down travel is mainly limited by the shock, put a super long shock in and you’ll have no up travel but heaps of down and same goes the other way. You space the bump stop to suit the shock so it doesn’t bottom out so then the up travel is limited by the bump stop
@derJackistweg13 күн бұрын
@@DanielKistler Right. But isn`t the up travel anyway limited by the bump stop, if the coil isn´t too stiff and the shock does not bottom out? I understand that a longer shock is a pro and more importantly has a ideal operating range. Or am I missing something? Point is: I am planning to build a Y61, but european style (=no crappy, as we have crappy weather and need more privacy as everywhere people are watching. So it will be cut off also but with a sandwich backhalf, not a canopy). I really do want a better ride than in my E350 Quigley that was stiff and had no travel; which is easy to beat. BUT: When I plan the cabin, I can do so with a "flat" bottom or "raised" to fit longer shocks. I am evaluating if it it worth it .... So I am very intersted to your result! 😆

Have you ever played with the ironman foamcell pros? I got them firstly because they are cheap, and secondly they are easy to rebuild, revalve. Just havent had time to get into them yet.
@DanielKistler6 ай бұрын
I wasn’t aware Ironman foamcells were able to be pulled down, so I haven’t played with them yet, good to know though.
@bennyjahmin39536 ай бұрын
@DanielKistler Yeah there is a service manual for them, but they won't give it to you, or any parts except maybe a seal kit if you go through one of their distributors. I let them have it one day saying you can't market them as 'rebuildable' if they won't sell the parts to rebuild. Anyway doesn't mean you can't pulled them apart and revalve them. The twin tube design with the foot valve might mean a little different approach to valving. Not really sure. I was wondering if you could modify them with internal bypasses like the ome bp51 style with shims over the ports in the internal tube. So many ideas, not enough time.
@jessep61536 ай бұрын
I could be wrong here but, won't the angle of the struts cause a load on the shaft as both sides are compressed together? The bolt position wont allow the struts to change angle as the axle moves closer and the bottom mounts are wider than the top.
@DanielKistler6 ай бұрын
I can understand your thought process but this isn’t the case because the ends have free moving hiem joints or bushes. The shock just changes angles as the diff moves
@jessep61536 ай бұрын
@@DanielKistler ahhh I see now. I didnt noticed the hiem joints. I thought it was solid with a bush. Thats what happens when you watch youtube at 2am on night shift.. 😉

Looks really good. How much wheel travel are you expecting with the long arms and the shocks on the rear of the diff?
@DanielKistler6 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, I mentioned all the travel measurements in the video. Roughly 7 up and 5.5 down at the shock.
@paulmarchesi70206 ай бұрын
@@DanielKistler I thought that the wheel travel would be different to the shock travel because they are offset from the axle centerline, or is it negligible? not an expert was just wondering. Thanks for the reply
@DanielKistler6 ай бұрын
@@paulmarchesi7020 yep you’re correct. There’s a lot of factors that change that ratio but travel at the wheel is pretty irrelevant, as long as the shock is correct
