Your logical approach to doing the marking out and cutting of the biscuits is really good.

Nice job mate, that bag looks like it was designed to last long enough to get out the shop and not a lot more, got a 500 as well that’s the way to go, they might be expensive but they do the business 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺

Yeah that bag's shite 👎 I need to play with the 500 a bit more, at the moment it's just collecting dust, I did get it not long before I got poorly tho so haven't been doing anything to use it for, The time will come 👍

I agree with you on the biscuits Gid, they give all the support you need for the shelves. Did you know you can get an 'Adapter' that down sizes the 700 to take 500 bits? I don't make anything heavy enough to need a 700. Bit late now, you have spent the ££ on the 500. I hope you get the use out of both of them ☺😉🤪

Thanks, yep I agree about the biscuits, breaking one of these joints is hard after he glue has dried. , & yep I did know about that adaptor bit but it never appealed to me, it might have been that the 700 is quite a heavy cumbersome machine & trying to use it on smaller wood/smaller dominoes seemed like it might be a bit of a struggle... maybe. The 500 is collecting dust, I bought it not long before getting poorly so haven't had much time to play with it & even tho I didn't need one I felt I had to have one 😁🤷‍♂️ I think I'm just collecting for the future, I like my tools & I like having a tool when needed rather than vise versa. + it was a good discounted price that was hard to let pass .. my excuse 😁😁 I built this with the 700, that would've been hard without it 👍 pics on Facebook before I started filming my work - facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1365517043534658&type=3

I have the 700 only plus the Seneca adapter previously mentioned. I thought that would cover all my needs. It is a very well balanced machine for it's size but for my work currently I tend to reach for the trusty biscuit jointer more often than not these days. Always tempted by the 500 but can't really justify the cost atm

There's a comment somewhere about me not being able to justify buying a Mafell saw as I've got 2 Makitas, but I didn't have a DF500, like i say,, that's my excuse 😁

Christ you splurged on a 500 too Gid? I've been toying with the idea of buying one since about 2017, and still haven't, weary of how much I'd use it. I've bought a lot of other tools since then, but this one has remained a sort of thorn in my side... I've always just used my biscuit jointer. A lot of my line of work is basically similar to yours, I just do a bit more building too. They're worth it if you've now got two, is it one of them tools you couldn't do without? P.S you've really spoiled us this weekend, keep up the good work/videos coming 👍🏼😎

Hi, most of my life, when I was younger anyway I spent on proper sites as a fitter/fixer, I still do a bit of that now but mainly on homes or at least I used to before I got poorly, I rarely film that type of work because as you know you just have to get in n get the job done, & quite often it's not the prettiest of jobs that the internet crowd would like, esp the armchair critics 🏃‍♂️👍 The 500 bugged me too, I didn't need one, still don't, have hardly used it but had to have one 🤦‍♂️😂😂😂 I think I'm just stocking up for the yrs ahead... 👴😂 These vids are from 2022 before I got poorly, I thought I'd upload all the making of these, next vids will be on site fitting them. There's a few more to come of the other bedroom & then we'll have to see how this yr goes, but things'll pick up health n workwise n I'll keep uploaded as n when. Thanks 👍

@@Gidjoiner ah, well I'm still not convinced whether I should buy the 500 then, long may the stalling continue 🤣. Yes, of course, it's easy to forget that we're back tracking on the vids. I hope you're perking up slowly, we're all vouching for you, as a fellow tradie. Take care of yourself.

@ljones396 Thanks, yep getting back up n running, lets just say I'm active pretty much all day which is a big step compared to just a couple of mths ago, I'll be properly working before you know it 👍 Yep my 500 is sitting in front of me collecting dust, If you're going to get one (if you haven't already) get the 700, you've seen how much I use mine, that is a tool worth buying 👍

@@Gidjoiner it's the 18v Makita I have, although admittedly, I don't know any different, but now that you mention it - yeah I can see how it's a poor design. I'll have to think about the 700 then, I have neither of them, a lot of ££ isn't it! Cheers

I’m surprised that Mafell bag is so crap Gid. Most of their stuff is top notch. Talking of Mafell, if youre thinking of upgrading corded track saw, just get the Mafell. It’ll shoot a door in, in one steady pass, it has an excellent Cuprex motor. Its also less plasticky than the festool and has a scoring setting for laminates at the flick of a knob plus an offset feature for mitreing sheet laminatestogether at angles perfectly. Runs on both mafell / bosch rails and also festool rails. The maff / bosch rails are better than festool, you van join 2 together to make a long rail and they are mm perfect at 3 metres. No need to lug a 3 metre in the van. Had my saw for 10 years and its like new. Just keeps going. I also have the 500 and 700, 700 is a better design. Swap out the step depth stop on the 500 for a metric one with 12 & 18mm and it wont offset the domino. If you want I’ll delve into my past purchases to find the link to the one I bought, about £12. Think I’m doing the same as you, building up the tools I err, ‘need’😂 as semi retired now and stocking up for the future. All the best, Pete in Crossgates.

Hi Pete n thanks, I'll keep that in mind but I bought the 3m track specifically so i didn't have to join two tracks together, I now have the two Makita track saws, corded & cordless & 5 tracks all different lengths to suit whatever I'm doing, My last van & some of my Makita tools lasted 20yrs so I doubt I'll be upgrading anytime soon,.fingers crossed 😂 You're not the first one to say that a different brand of saw will 'shoot a door' in one pass, I'm not sure why that's being said, I've hung doors with this cordless, it might be the type of door & if you were to compare the Makita with another brand there might well be a power difference but to date I haven't had an issue, I'm not saying i might not tho in the future.... I've got the Makita RS001GZ 185MM 40V & the bigger MAKITA RS002GZ 260MM 40V cordless rip saws for bigger stuff, so for the amount of times I'll be cutting something that's too big for the 36v plunge I'll just dig one of those out 👍 I'll look into the "Swap out the step depth stop on the 500 for a metric one" , I haven't had much time to play with the 500 as I got it not long before being poorly but I just dug it out, I think it is already metric, annoyingly there's no 18 but if I set it to 20 the vertical depth stops at 10... if there's an improvement to be made that def sounds like a tweak I would make 👍 I put a pic on Google Drive drive.google.com/file/d/10RVSipX_eLFPSsaWg8wihsvRwmXFvxpp/view?usp=sharing Edit - Just had a look online & yep there's ones that have 12, 15, 18 ... Some look a bit crap quality so if you do have a link that would be appreciated 👍

Absolutely love my mafell, had mine 8 years and it's been an absolute workhorse. Dropped several times on concrete floors and still going strong. Would buy another in a heartbeat. Rail system is so superior to the common system, only let down is lack of the diverse accessories

@@Gidjoiner I picked up the Festool rail square a few Years back Gid. I have the Makita 36v TS like you. It's a good saw but lacks a bit of power. I'd love if Makita released a 40v version with 60mm dept of cut at 90° I'm looking at the Festool TS 60, it's a corded saw but it would be a W/S saw mainly anyway.

@TheToolnut Just had a look at the Festool sq, looks the same & almost the same price 😉😂 Out of curiousity I had a look not long ago at track saws, orig I never really fancied the Festool. I think it was just the hype & the price that put me off but without looking it up again I was pretty sure they made a couple of different versions, one big n one a bit smaller, so I Iooked to see if Makita had brought out different versions,, nope. That's fine by me tho, I used the corded Makita on a hardwood worktop with a rip blade & it did ok, not sure how the cordless would do as you say but.... I have the Makita RS001GZ 185MM 40V & the bigger MAKITA RS002GZ 260MM 40V 😊 so although not track saws I'd prob just dig one of those out for harder stuff. - Edit - Just had a look, there is a 40v Makita but the same Max Cut @ 0º: 56mm same as the 36v we've got 🤦‍♂️😂

@@Gidjoiner Yes indeed Gid, the TSO and Festool rail squares are basically the same and comparable in price too. It was a toss of a coin which one I was going to buy, in the end I went with the Festool. I think it came down to availability and shipping costs at the time. I had a corded 110v Bosch TS then sold it to buy the 36v Makita. The Bosch was a good saw but I needed a cordless TS at the time. I had lost the use of my W/S and it was all site work at that time. As I said it's a good saw and great for sheet material. It lacks a bit of grunt for thicker stock. If I'm using it to shoot in a door I'll take it in two passes. The same applies for anything thicker than an inch, especially hardwoods. Festool have the TS 55, TS60 and TS75, all corded saws. They also do a cordless TS55 I believe. They'll probably release a cordless TS60 in time. A TS capable of shooting in a door in one pass would be great. I also use my Makita 36v to shoot a straight edge on rough sawn boards. Less work for the planer.
