This is a slightly raised built-in bed that is going over a bulkhead in the bedroom created by the staircase below. The main bed structure is built-in using pine & the bed side frame is made with Beech, sprayed with PU lacquer using a Devilbiss FLG5 spraygun & Bostitch 50L compressor. There's four doors in the side frame hung on cabinet door hinges for access to storage space under the bed, a raised platform/top at the bottom of the bed for lamps etc. The headboard & bottom box are clad with Acupanel Colour Concrete Grey Acoustic Wall Panels
The shelf unit that goes at the head of the bed, I used a Makita cordless plunge saw with a TSO PRODUCTS GSR-16 PE V2 Parallel Edge Guide Rail Adaptor that cuts the boards square, I then used a Dewalt biscuit jointer to join the boards.

Great vids. Never as simple as joining a few bits of wood together with screws and biscuits but also about coming up with creative solutions to a problem. Experience and a way of thinking thats worth its weight in gold. Not many people see that side of things. Glad you take the time to show it and also that the people you work for appreciate your skill set.

Great series mate, everything came together nicely, have to say the paint job was excellent, wish I could get the same paint over here, interesting to see the difference in quality of work at the end especially in the paint finish, I’m sure our customers would much rather of had you finish the job 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺

A really great set of videos there Gid, the detail you go into really comes through in your finished work. I would love to see how you prepared for these builds, looking at that corner detail shows that you have put some though into the aesthetics and what the finishes will be like. loving all the new toys that you keep showing.

Thankyou, much appreciated, glad you think so & that you like them 👍😊 I pretty much always do a 2D drawing in CAD, for my own plans & to show the client a true to scale image of what we'll have discussed. This job was a little in flux, the size of the mattress & what could be fitted up to the window determined how wide the bed was, the length is a fairly standard length mattress, the height was determined by the bulkhead box, the headboard, shelf unit & the box at the bottom of the bed changed a couple of times before the final build. You might notice the door frames, skirting & architrave got fitted along the way, I was doing those at the same sort of time, & I was also having to do bits in the other bedroom building a wardrobe & shelves to appease the decorators,. I've got those clips & am going to upload them to YT when edited. That's why I couldn't upload at the time, I was doing everything at the same time 😊😵😂 then i got poorly 😐

Thanks much appreciated, glad you like it 👍 I never cut off things like cills, this type of thing maybe built in but is classed as temporary/semi permanent, when someone one day removes this they don't want to find some muppet has cut the end of the cill off. The same goes for scribing around skirting, remove the cupboard & find some lazy d*ck has cut a slot in the skirting instead of taking the time to scribe around it. 😡

Very neat gid well impressed Gid could you give a little information on you spray gun and sort of paint you use to spray grate finish Thank you
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 3 ай бұрын
Thankyou, much appreciated 👍 The spraygun I use the most the one in the videos is a Devilbiss FLG5 with 1.8mm nozzle, if you buy that you prob won't need another gun. There's a few different kinds of paint but some, I can't say all, are very hard & because of that they're brittle, the wood underneath is relatively soft so it chips easily when knocked. That's why I use one called PU enamel, it has a flexibility to it, when the wood gets banged this paint flexes, it dents rather than chipping 👍 It's also impervious to most household chemicals & acetone that is in nail varnish remover so good for kitchens & vanity unit tops.. I don't know if it's impervious to the oil that made a mark on the desk made by someone else that I showed at the end of this vid, I might test it if I can get some of the oil.

Thanks as always for your vids. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Dewalt biscuit joiner. I've got one (corded) and from new there's been is play on the plastic guide rails, so the body rocks slightly on them. I've replaced them and the results were still the same. I then shimmed the body with aluminium tape and that's improved the play and accuracy quite a bit. The Makita biscuit joiner has metal rods as guides which seems a much better idea and perhaps more accurate. Have you noticed any difference in accuracy between the two?
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 3 ай бұрын
You're welcome & thankyou 👍 I just had a look at the corded Dewalt & no there's zero play in the guide rails & it's many yrs old, if you've replaced the rods I suspect something wrong with the machining of the metal parts not the plastic 🤷‍♂️. I bought the makita to get away from being corded, most of my batteries are Makita & I didn't want another charger in the van, but I later swallowed my pride or whatever & bought the cordless Dewalt, can't really explain but it is lighter. I'll have a look later but play like that is something I would pick up on so without looking I'd say no no play in that either. 👍

@@Gidjoiner Thanks Gid, no rush. It took me ages to work out what the problem with my biscuit joiner was, I kept on thinking it was down to technique. The firmer I held the machine to the wood the worse it got, then the error would compound when you're machining the mating part, it really put me off using one. So when I finally thought to look into it, it was out of warranty. I did look into new castings, but they were stupid money (more than brand new Erbauer biscuit joiner) so decided to go with the aluminium tape. When I dug down into the detail, it looks like the plastic rails are used on another biscuit joiner (Elu?), so I don't think they came up with the design themselves, the dewalts may be just rebadged. Anyway, enough rambling, keep up the good work and I hope you're getting more of your strength back.

@@gavbansal967 Hi, Elu were taken over by Dewalt, when I first started we had Elu mitre saws after the rebrand the colour changed from grey to yellow but they were & are pretty much the same as they were before they got rebranded, it was a long time ago tho so how, why etc. your plastic rails are called Elu I don't know.
