I bought the same Jointer. But I did a few things differently. First, the box comes off easily if you just remove the bottom screws and slip the whole thing up and over. No need to break it apart. Second, I cringe at lifting it by the tables. It comes with lifting brackets and we picked it up by those instead, those two metal C shaped things. Third, my tables were luckily set correctly from the factory, and yes I even bought a long fancy $60 straight edge for that purpose. It confirmed it was correct. I am afraid horsing it around by the tables is causing the issues some have with proper table alignment. Best of luck, I love mine.

I just spent a couple days taking apart and putting together my 10” Inca joiner after getting measurements to fit it for a Byrd helical head. Then yesterday re-sharpening 2 sets of blades and reinstalling. Then setting height of the straight knives. What a chore. The Byrd head for that joiner/planer isn’t available till year end. I set my knives using a 3mm pull near the center of on an old 30” cheap aluminum level as I have for many many years. My test cuts came out without snipe. So here are my thoughts on joining with that machine. Once the board is stable on the out-feed table, keep the majority of downward pressure behind the cutter on the out-feed side and just enough pressure to stabilize the feed in front of the cutter on the in-feed side. Especially important as the board finishes the cut.

Great video. I have this jointer and did a video on it to. One of the best tool purchases I have ever made ! The adjustment to get it perfect was a pin in the butt though. You can really get it out of wack easily if you crank on the eccentric bushings to much

Thank for posting this. I am researching 8 inch jointers and am considering both the Powermatic and Jet 8 inch helical head with the conventional wedge bed, and this Grizzly with the parallelogram bed. Prices are within a few hundred of each other. Driving myself crazy with all the researching!

About the jointer outfeed table height compared to the knives, I've heard the argument for the knives being a tad higher, though I generally aim for right on. Even a tad too low gives me the same issue with the snipe you had here and even slightly too high will give you a bowed cut (especially with face jointing) since the higher outfeed table will tend to progressively lift the trailing end of the board up by a hair at a time and you won't get a nice flat face. A perfectly flat face, if you pick up one end of it and let it fall flat on the jointer bed, will make a soft noise when it hits and you'll feel kind of a "suction" if you gently pick it back up.

I use a straight edge to rough mine in then, a dial indicator for final adjustment. Very accurate. Also, I get my best results with the cutters .001 to .002 above the outfeed table. That also measured with a dial indicator from the outfeed table to the cutter with the cutter at TDC (TOP DEAD CENTER). Good video, like the way you explained all the adjustments for the tables.

Just curious, are you edge jointing before face jointing? I was taught the opposite. Also, the spare knob in the box is for your fence. I’ve got the identical version in Shop Fox. They’re great machines!

Thanks for the video! Am about to pull the trigger on this jointer but I live in a cul de sac and Grizzly said they cannot deliver to a cul de sac. How do you think the wheels would do on a sidewalk. I'd have about a 5-minute walk to my house if I were able to get them to drop it off at a buddy's house down the street and am wondering if I could just roll it down the sidewalk once it's off the pallet? Thanks for any info.
@BuiltKnotBought
@BuiltKnotBought 2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend making a couple carts with caster wheels to set it on and roll it versus the factory wheels. They do well on perfectly flat ground but any bumps or inclines will not be very fun
@tobythornton603
@tobythornton603 3 жыл бұрын
I'm really close to pulling the trigger on this same unit. Like others have mentioned, I would have to get it down a grass slope to get to my basement. I assume that, if absolutely necessary, I could remove the table from the base and move it in pieces a little easier (with a buddy of course). Any thoughts on this logic? Thanks for the review!
@BuiltKnotBought
@BuiltKnotBought 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Toby thanks for commenting with the parallelogram type jointer I think it's going to be very difficult to separate into different pieces to move down into your basement. Now that being said I have never actually attempted to try and remove the infeed or outfeed table so I could be completely wrong here this is just simply my observation. The dovetail type jointers may be a little easier to take apart

Thanks for the video. Around 13:15, you talk about the play in the fence. Did you ever get that resolved? I have the same model and the same observation. Trying to determine if that's normal or if I need to play with the cone point set screws (35) on the fence swivel base (25). Those are part numbers from the parts manual.
@BuiltKnotBought
@BuiltKnotBought 3 жыл бұрын
I believe that's just a common issue with this jointer it kind of surprises me because everything else seems really tight and well made but the fence just has way too much playing
@joeb6864
@joeb6864 3 жыл бұрын
@@BuiltKnotBought I fixed it. Wanted to pass along what I found to be root cause and what I did to fix. Appears that the cone shaped sets screws in the swivel base were not fully seated when the unit was first assembled. Refer to the parts diagram, loosen 14mm jam nut (36) on all four cone point set screws (35) on the fence swivel base (25). Use flat tip screw driver to adjust set screws for snug fit. Don’t know if they have a torque setting so I just went firm enough to stop movement without wrenching down too hard. Tighten jam nut and you should be good. Hope that helps. ~JB

great video, thank you! I just ordered this jointer and I'm expecting it later this week or next week. I can't wait. I will need to move it down a grass hill to get it to my basement shop. it looked like yours moved decently on the dirt/grass and the incorporated wheels... any suggestions on that? I might just lay down a plywood path but I'm afraid it might go a little too quick down the hill.
@BuiltKnotBought
@BuiltKnotBought 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful. It slid surprisingly well in the dirt! If I had to go down hill I'd probably go the plywood route and have a friend help you walk it into the shop. It's very heavy! So far I have had zero issues with it

I'm actually in the same boat as you. I just ordered mine and have to slide it down a slight grassy hill slope to get into my workspace. Did you end up going the plywood route? How did it go? Other than some slight nerves about that, I'm very excited for it to arrive.
@Mboarman89
@Mboarman89 3 жыл бұрын
@@29jonant for the jointer, I was able to pay the delivery guy $50 to get it down there with his pallet jack. I used two pieces of plywood that I kept moving to put in front of him. That worked great. I ordered a 20 inch planer a couple weeks later, and the delivery guy was less helpful... so I was on my own there. I ended up putting the planer on a piece of plywood, drilling two large holes and running a tow strap through them. I dragged that down the hill with my car. I had to go really slow and it was a bit of a pain, but it got the job done. Good luck!
