I’m from Surinam. When this song came out Buju was running our airwaves day after day. He came to perform and we were inside watching him perform . People outside broke the gate of the stadium to come in. Instead of holding them back he told the security to let the people in to come listen because he made music telling tales of the poor. He represented them.

I remember about 18 years ago I attended one of his performances, and after the show we (the fans) lined up next to the door that led backstage to meet him and when the show ended he walked right by us and it seemed like he wasn’t going to stick around for the autographs and he was about to leave, I shouted out to him, “Buju” he turns and looks at me and waves me down to go back stage with him. He even told the security guard, who wouldn’t let me in, to let me through There was a long line of people waiting to get his autograph and meet him but I was the only one Buju let in and signed my cds and shirt. This man is a legend and his music is an inspiration to many especially Zimbabwean people across political divide his music kept consciousness and liberation in mind after Bob Marley till this time The righteous Words are from Almighty God. Buju for me he is an instrument a vessel of the voice of the voiceless.
