Bukh 10HP seized, 2 years later will it run?

After water entering the engine via the exhaust or air intake and left for 2 years,
5 minutes of suspense, will it run?
(The engine is fitted to an ATLANTA 28 I really ought to sell as it is laid up unused. Any serious interest please Personal Message me, I won't discuss price in the comments. )

That video throws up more questions than answered. That engine looks almost new compared to mine but mine has a cog around the flywheel & a dedicated starter. I thought mine was rough but after listening to yours it sounds like a Rolls Royce & I'm pretty chuffed.

I still have that boat but don't use it so it's still neglected. It's one of the old dynastart ones. I really need to find someone to take the boat on, (Atlanta 28.)

@@nicholasmorrill4711 They did make bilge keel Atlanta's but mine's a fin. Bilge keel boats very handy, my last one a Fulmar.

I'm no expert but they will depend on age, use and maintenance. This one is one of the older ones with Dynastart. Check for water pumping through the exhaust, wether there is excessive smoke, bluish will indictate oil being burned, that it's charging , ign light will go off and there will be 14v on the battery. Check forward and reverse ok. Check dipstick has no sign of emulsified oil .

Good job, they are amazing engines, I would guess the piston rings could do with replacing. Try spraying WD40 down the boar when she is not in use ;-)

It probably did get some at the time but yes that would be good. This boat, an Atlanta 28, is a project I started but never finished. These days I find it too easy with the internet to go and buy something that will get me sailing quicker.

I never sailed it! Mine is a fin keel version, a lot of them were bilge. They're a traditional design unlike the Mirage and Cobra produced in the same era. Some were factory finished with GRP inner mouldings (like mine), others were home finished so standards vary.Good usable space inside, dinette/double berth to starboard, galley and berth to port, good sized heads compartment and forecabin.

The older engines had a Dynastart, a dynamo and starter combined. There is a relay box which switches from start to charge once running.

@@ChallengerGTS I had a boat with a Sabb engine once, that was a slow revving engine and easy to work on. I have come to like Beta engines which are a marine Kubota as is the Nanni. I have owned a few boats with Beta engines and had no problems other than excessive belt wear and one failed alternator. I have little experience of the Bukh.

There is nothing wrong with Bukh, if properly maintained. I'm guessing you are Norwegin, and I am Danish, so let's just leave it at that.

Bullshit! If properly maintained (doesn't need much) a BUKH will run forever and a Sunday. I have had a DV10 and a DV20. Both never failed me even though they're about half a century old.
