As a Plovdiv born and bred I feel proud and happy to see tourists love the town vibes. It's not really small, nearly half a million, but still quiet and full of character. Thank you for promoting Plovdiv to the world.

holy shit, I nearly cried watching this. I used to live in Plovdiv for six years, and I really miss it. This place is magical - the only other city that has that incredible atmosphere is Veliko Tarnovo which I totally suggest you visit. My university was right beside this theatre, and I enjoyed the view every day. On one side is the academy of arts and music, on the other is Plovdiv's University biology building. The coffee you are drinking beer at is called Arena and it's funny you're saying the prices are low there. Right beside it is the Academy's coffee place - The Crypt, which is also slightly overpriced but cheaper - also the dude at the bar is super chill and funny. They put the booth to buy tickets in a very dumb place the last year I lived there. Arena had tables in that spot before and a fountain. It was great! If you want a cool place with good food and low prices, I suggest The Fire Station or Пожарната there are cheaper places but man, their food is great and at a very reasonable price. What you said was Old town is actually right beside the actual old town and is an area know as Kapana - Best I can translate it is The Trap - I don't know if the name should be translated though. It used to be Plovdiv's trading center for a very very long time, now it's a tourist destination and is also full of clubs, restaurants and artsy coffee places that are overpriced but worth it for the atmosphere. Kapana is also hell to drive around in. Another good place to check out is the Museum of Natural Sciences in Plovdiv - It's incredible after the renovations with a 3d space map, animals and minerals of all kinds, and a store for minerals at a good price if you are into that kind of shit. Big Plovdiv tip if you are a foreigner - never use a parked taxi - EVER. They will cheat you out of your money in a heartbeat. Here are some taxi numbers - 0326665, 0326103/0326188, 0326199 - always call your fucking taxis. They will usually ask you where you at and where are you going - if it's too close they may tell you to fuck off or "We don't have cars" or whatever - just be persistent. Never get a parked Taxi from the train station and near kapana, they lurk there and pray on tourists. If anyone takes you more than 8lv to go anywhere in Plovidiv - congrats you have been duped. Also, never take a taxi in Sofia unless you're dying - but that's a topic for a different discussion. Oh my god, I didn't intend to write for so long, sorry. I really miss Plovdiv damn it. I should go visit next week or so.

and if you're interested in seeing something more, try Veliko Turnovo and Trakia Valley as well - the town itself is incredibly build on the steep river banks and the valley is a home for the incredible wineries and rose fields, where majority of rose oil in the world comes from. Coming in the rose petals peaking season is an experience of it's own with the weird pre-christian traditions and fests with dances in traditional clothing. I've seen it a few years back and it was something absolutely unique.

What a beautiful city! One of my favourite places you have visited in Europe so far. I've never been to Bulgaria, but it looks amazing. There is some serious classical civilisation going on there, that's for sure. Great vlog as always, with many of your classic little "moments' - Stacey's hand running along the vines, zooming in on an ice cold beer, the cat crammed into that tight space fast asleep, not forgetting your "moment of fame" on the stage - but hey, with your subscriptions going up and up, you guys are famous every day! :)

Plovdiv has quickly become one of our favs as well actually. Has so much to offer, great prices and not that many people makes it a real dream! 😊We have many historical places around Bulgaria... But bulgarians love their forest, lakes and sea the most(+rakiq and wine). We aren't the richest ppl in Europe but many have villas or small house in mountains or sea side. When it's summer everyone leaves the big cities. So when you try leaving Sofia at the start of the summer or a big holiday. You'd think there is an apocalypse happening or one of China's traffic jams. You can't freaking move! But at the end it's all worth it. Bulgarians are truly at peace in the mountain with rakiq 👼👌

I absolutely love your videos. You 2 are the perfect pair and so down to Earth, and funny. I can already tell the Bulgaria series is gonna be amazing as well. Your Poland series was so special to me because my Grandfather and his family immigrated to the U.S.to escape the Nazis but he died when my father was 2 and after his death my grandmother moved pretty far away so I never got the chance to really know any of the Wolski side of my family and learn more about my Polish roots, so thank you for that. Visit Haskovo too. Not as impressive as Plovdiv, but we have the biggest statue of the Virgin Mary in the whole world(it's in the book of Guinness), one of the highest belltowers on the Balkans(which also provides an amazing view of the whole city), our city centre is full of parks and fountains, there's also an amazing park in the northern part where you could go biking or just walking(whatever suits you). Near the city there's the Uzundzhovo village with an amazing church there, definitely worth visiting. There's also a Thracian tomb and a museum just a few kilometres from the city, so it's really worth seeing it. Oh and just a 20-minute drive west is a great spa-village, so check that one too.

You did an awesome review of my hometown! I recommend people to visit Plovdiv in Autumn, Spring or Winter (it's not that cold really), otherwise in the Summer it's like in an oven.

Because everybody in summer are at the seaside...you must check it in spring or autumn, full or people..one of the party cities in Bulgaria. Will you visit Sofia?
@DanegerAndStacey6 жыл бұрын
Oh really? Well we love this time of year then, so nice and peaceful! Yup, Sofia is next.

In Sofia, i would suggest you to visit St.Alexander Nevsky cathedral, check the center of city, its pretty and interesting, for drinks i will suggest "One more bar" -amazing cocktails, for something to eat at morning-banitsa and to drink boza. Very traditional food and drink, if you go to outside of sofia you should visit Veliko Tarnovo (amazing city) and on the seaside Nesebar. Or just go hiking in one of the 7 mountains we have...

People are on the coastline in summer here in Burgas it’s full of people from all over the country

In Bulgaria the people are going out in the evening. Visit the fountain or there have some high places calling "TEPE" with good view. I prefer Veliko Tarnovo too or Bulgarian mountains - Plovdiv have history, but is nothing wow. Take a car and see Bachkovo, it is close to Plovdiv! If you have time just checking what is unique in Bulgaria and go there :)

Great video guys. Just a small addition, ONE of the names of Plovdiv is Philipopolis as it was named after Philip the Great, Alexander's father at one point in history. Also Orpheus, the famous ancient singer is from the area.

Oh hey, I've been there. My cousin was complaining about how rickety the stairs that you go down were. I think you're attracting some Bulgarians with this video. I went on the 26th of July though. Only 4 days after you both.
