When I was in the Bahamas, I paid a couple of hundred dollars to go swim with the nurse sharks (harmless unless you stuck your foot or hand in their mouths). As they swam around me, there were other sharks that were NOT nurse sharks and they looked exactly like this bull shark.

It is a rare sighting but you never know what is in there. Very scary. They have been known to venture into rivers where I live. Extremely rare to hear about but apparently they are there and you would never even know. Some poor people have lost their lives.

Actually, because of sharks proclivity to migrate, it takes several years and a consistent feeding schedule for usually the second of two generations of sharks to successfully associate humans and human behavior as a source of food. That being said, just don't feed them. Also, bull sharks are "local sharks" which live close to their homing grounds. So, seriously, don't do it.

Saw the video of him and another gentleman in water a little less than waist deep. The Bull swam around both of them and came in from behind, angled its body to the left, clamped down on his left leg, shook its head (damned near knocked him over backwards) and swam away. The guy he was talking to carried him to the beach. Where his calf had been long strips of flesh were dangling from the crescent shaped wound. Hard to believe that video came out over six years ago, still remember it like yesterday...

"Remember ~ if you go in that water, you are much more afraid of them than they are of you." Hal on his youtube channel Sharks Happen. Check it out sometime if you like; no hype or weirdness just a cool guy doing his thing. He says the top 3 bad sharks you don't want to encounter are the tiger, great white, and bull shark. It's that they make territory out of the same places we like to swim in, and considering bull sharks are arguably the most adaptable shark species currently on earth; able to live in cold/warm salt/ fresh water. That's a LOT of opportunity for our species to butt heads or in their case sink their teeth into our heads. (Yes it's more likely they go for our legs but that's besides the point.) as for those not being swimming waters, thanks for basically saying what Toby did, but try telling that to drunk tourists.(Although in hindsight if a tourist WAS drunk enough to think swimming there was a good idea no amount of warning signs would save them wouldn't they?) Shane Keelinghamm nah, conservation efforts are pretty effective when it comes to animals on the endangered species list. and even if some species of sharks go extinct the bull shark is likely to be one of the more successful breeds due to their range and (consequently) their diet. on top of that shark fin soup is mostly eaten in Asian countries which bull sharks I'm pretty sure they don't frequent. African waters on the other hand...well there's another story.

A lot of people have just really liked the video in general, but let me address the people who are saying to not feed the wildlife, especially sharks. This video was taken in a marina in Bimini Sands Marina, Bimini, Bahamas. This is a shark free marina (no pun intended). That means you cannot fish for sharks and bring them to the marina to clean, etc. In the video, we are cleaning a wahoo that we caught that day, so the carcass was going to be in the water any way you look at it. We just decided to have a little fun with this young bull shark (yes, this is a bull shark). Some people have argued that this looks more like a reef shark, but I am sure it is a bull shark because we know some of the people that work with the Bimini Biological Field Station (the shark lab). Also, reef sharks don't typically come in the marina (They're reef sharks). I will probably be posting another video like this from a more recent trip soon. So, stay posted!

It’s just how it’s been done for as long as I can remember. They literally have “cleaning stations” on the walk. I'm quite certain it's not a bull shark. I rather lean towards a reef shark. It lacks the massive build of a bullshark and the nearly right angled transition from head to sides. Also it moves differently from a bull shark. Somehow less "determined"...

There was a horrible story in the Bahamas of a young girl being killed by two Bull Sharks in front of her parents a few years ago. They were celebrating her college graduation I believe.

People don't swim there but they can fall in. Besides, there's plenty of morons who sit on the edges of these places with their legs flailing over or even dipping in the water--I bet you this place is no different. Anyway, it's not a good environment for the shark either; as you yourself point out, it's full of boats cruising in and out and of gas and other waste from the boats. The shark probably has strayed in there out of curiosity and just as well should eventually just swim out and leave the place, not make it a permanent home. This is just simply not a good idea all round.

I'm no shark expert by a miles, but I do appreciate them all for their sheer beauty, power, skills and the fact they have been on this earth for....how long? BUT is it a good idea to feed it in a harbour like that? Wont that make it more likely to stick around, where theres more people??

There is a restaurant in the Bahamas where they do that. The big difference is a whole bunch of bull sharks arrive. Not a place to get drunk and accidentally fall in.

People always complain of aggressive animals, why do you think the attack happened in the first place? Oh because people feed wild animals and they get so used to humans that they hang out right under their boat or in their backyard. Dont feed wild animals!

My only counter thought to that was to keep the beast full. A lion that is stuffed on Tbone steaks is of little danger to a man. But if at strict regement is not up held, your right. Don't want that animal to famileries it's self with the area, especially when it's hungry

Being saying for years that allowing fishermen to clean their catch in the anchorages and marinas is going to lead to a huge shark problem. Only when the attacks come will people do something to stop this practice.

If they did there would be a million people killed by sharks every year, not 5 to 10. They look at us the same way we look at cats, sure we can eat them but we don't because they are not food. That is why most shark attacks end after the first bite when they realize we are not a seal.

Miki Seius well there are a lot more fatal attacks than just 5-10 per year...... and it's not like the sharks necessarily view us a certain way, just that their eyesight isn't a1 (like a hamster) and they get confused because we swim like a seal would and then they attack. or someone decides to act like an idiot and provoke it, but usually other than that, you're correct, sharks don't purposefully eat people
