Hello and welcome back to the channel. Let's get right to it. We're at Bimini in the beautiful Bahamas, on a bull shark dive and I want to talk about this particular Bull shark.
This shark was double hooked. A wire leader and two very thick fishing line leaders on this shark.
The leaders were either cut or the shark broke them off.
Or maybe he was hooked by two boats.
The interesting thing I want to talk about with this shark is this:
Of all the bull sharks that were with us that day - and you see some nurse sharks as well… this particular shark seemed to stay very close to us.
Unlike a tiger shark where we could try to pull the hook out, a bull shark is just too fast, too strong, and it would be much too dangerous to try to get that hook and pull it out.
Here the shark is again, very interactive with us - the shark wanted a lot of camera attention. The water that day was beautiful.
There were just a lot of other bull sharks as well. Here he is again.
Now you see this particular behavior. He's probably feeling that steel leader on his fin. Bull sharks are a dangerous shark to work with because they are fast… they are a big predatory shark I’ve worked with larger ones in Fiji.
They are capable of swimming in fresh water as well.
You have to be constantly aware of where all the bull sharks are.
You do not want one behind you and you do not want to be on the surface of the water. Bottom line - you must be able to make eye contact… and that’s really with any shark your in the water with.
When diving with the sharks, we use a very buddy team.
We point where the bull sharks are and we make sure the divers around us see the animal as well.
We have big cameras that we can use as a barrier with the shark
Shark diving is very intense, as I've said in some of my other videos, we've been in the water during the day and at night. These sharks are highly interactive.
They will stay with you and as you can see, the shark just came in again and again.
It's a lesson that if a hook gets stuck in the shark, the leader needs to be cut tight - and hopefully the hook will rust out.
And this Nurse Shark offers a bit of thanks for subscribing to the channel - Space Shark on KZbin and Space Shark Earth on Instagram… let me know what you think of this hooked shark. Check out this video about diving with tiger sharks.
