*The Enuma Elish would later be the inspiration for the Hebrew scribes who created the text now known as the biblical Book of Genesis.* Prior to the 19th century CE, the Bible was considered the oldest book in the world and its narratives were thought to be completely original. In the mid-19th century CE, however, European museums, as well as academic and religious institutions, sponsored excavations in Mesopotamia to find physical evidence for historical corroboration of the stories in the Bible. ***These excavations found quite the opposite, however, in that, once cuneiform was translated, it was understood that a number of biblical narratives were Mesopotamian in origin.*** *Famous stories such as the Fall of Man and the Great Flood were originally conceived and written down in Sumer,* translated and modified later in Babylon, and reworked by the Assyrians ***before they were used by the Hebrew scribes for the versions which appear in the Bible.*** ***In revising the Mesopotamian creation story for their own ends, the Hebrew scribes tightened the narrative and the focus but retained the concept of the all-powerful deity who brings order from chaos.*** Marduk, in the Enuma Elish, establishes the recognizable order of the world - *just as God does in the Genesis tale* - and human beings are expected to recognize this great gift and honor the deity through service. *"Enuma Elish - The Babylonian Epic of Creation - Full Text - World History Encyclopedia"* *"Sumerian Is the World's Oldest Written Language | ProLingo"* *"Sumerian Civilization: Inventing the Future - World History Encyclopedia"* ("The Sumerians were the people of southern Mesopotamia whose civilization flourished between c. 4100-1750 BCE." I remember at a young age saying, "Why do people think this way". I was young and didn't phrase my question correctly. I truly meant why do people believe this. My step father in front of a lot of people back handed me so hard I had to be carried to the van. Long story short he then made it clear at the dinner table.... "YOU NEVER QUESTION ANYONES BELIEF".. I swear I became a skeptic after that and couldn't trust anything I was told. After thought before posting this. My mother taught us that no one had a right to touch us or abuse us. She was a hypocrite and married him shortly after, the abuse continued... I just remember so many hypocrisy's growing up and they all stem from religion.

I work on the largest cruise ship in the world (Icon of the Seas and it's subsequent iterations) and it can house about 10 000 people if you cram it hard enough. Even so, it can't sail for a year at a time, not even close. Now build a wooden boat half the size filled with a FEW people and a million carnivores and herbivores FOR A YEAR. Even if I explain this to creationists as a shipbuilding professional, they always move the goalposts like "what if it was a special kind of wood that can endure the strain? What if the carnivores ate plants at that time?" Listen guys, the fact you have to invent mystical materials to break the laws of physics is already indicating your loss. If they have to deny all reality to make this fantasy true, our options are running low.

I aint even a professional boat builder but i can already say that putting live animals in a place without proper ventilation is bad. I mean we had a farm, We had chickens, pigs and ducks, that's 3 species... three... We have open air environment. And still it stunk if we dont clean their poop every few hours or so. And the creationist would have you believe that thousands of species in a boat with one window is somehow doable 🤦‍♂️

Dutko lies about the “Could Noah’s Ark Float? In Theory, Yes” Smithsonian Magazine article! It was 4 physics students (not structural engineers) who published in a student-run journal. They only found that the ark could float which is not “seaworthy”. A seaworthy ship can sail on actual seas. That mythical keel-less, rudder-less, unpowered box would capsize in a real sea with real waves. The students did not include food or water for the animals (or humans) and seem to have ignored the need for access to their 2.15 million sheep mass.

I remember in first grade as we were getting dressed up for recess after a "religious education" class which had just covered Noah's Ark, a good number of us kids had a simple question in mind: "How did the kangaroos get to the ark from Australia?" We knew nothing of where the ark was supposed to be, nothing about ship designs, nothing about how much food animals need etc. A simple question from the mind of a first grader poked a huge hole into the story. I'm not sure if anyone had the guts to ask the teacher that, nor do I remember an answer, but I would guess that she maybe pulled the miracle card and that was that. She was a good teacher though. She never even attempted to push any religious beliefs on us. (It was a secular school, by the way)

I’ve asked a guy who is a woodwork engineer and worked on the USS Constitution, HMS Victory, Mary Rose, the Cutty Sark’s restoration (tea clipper in dry dock in London that caught fire recently) and Sweden’s Vasa. He says that it’s simply not possible to haul a wooden box around a rough ocean with planet Venus-like air pressure with thousands of animals on board. A total fantasy and impossibility.

Some of the largest wooden ships were ice haulers on the Great Lakes, and they had iron reenforced structures, and a large crew, no doubt. I suppose they were wood because it's a fair insulator. Two jobs ago, I was part of a crew that took a 60 hp electric motor to a small poultry farm. It had three huge air handlers that kept the place ventilated. The loss of one was bad enough, the loss of two would have been catastrophic...so, an unventilated boat full of animals? With no real lighting inside? No propulsion, steering, or way to navigate?..a crew of six? Not gonna happen.

Consider that maybe the story is not intended literally, and that is the reason it fails on so many levels when taken literally. It has to mean something else. Consider that this is a religious tale that tells the coded story of a religious splinter group that broke off from the main group. In the story, Noah observed that the main group was being swallowed up by the "sinful" ways of the prevailing culture which, like a rising tide, Noah predicted would wash them away losing their identity as a religious group. Noah broke off with a group of young members, couples, from different backgrounds (like Reverend Moon or something), making a new church said to be more holy or something. Perhaps the ark is really a house of worship. It has nothing to do with a real flood.

Yeah, but the Wyoming had to travel from point A to point B, had to turn, dock, load, unload. All the Ark would have to do is 'float' and not sink for 7 1/2 months. Totally different from carrying coal from New England to France, for example. Granted, eventually the Ark would start leaking anyway. Just.... would it leak so much that it sank in under 7 1/2 months?

the fun part is what the seas's would be doing. the only unobstructed area of sea now is the southern circumpolar one. and that can get , a bit 'exciteable' .like 100 foot waves. during a Flood. The typical max size a Wooden ship is around 300 feet or so, usually not even that long as Spanish/English Galleon class ships typically were 100-150 ft and were friggin massive for their day.Once you get past 300ft you get a lot of issues with warping of the wood and eventually breaking. The Wyoming Schooner leaked a lot, had to be damn near repaired daily and was held together with hard metals not remotely available in the bronze/prebronze age. We don't even have to touch theology to know the ship was bullshit; professional ship builders at the time knew this.

I've never understood the whole concept that if something is written down and is old, then it must be true. Especially if the writer declares themselves to be correct. This applies to any text, religious or otherwise. I've met people who worship ancient people because they allegedly were so much smarter than we are today. No, just no. As a thought experiment, if I write down some claims now, no matter how absurd or fictional they are, do they automatically become true in a thousand years?

10:00 Correction, AronRa, also engineering wise it would be impossible (with a Noah's Ark). I made a rough calculation on the building time of Noah's ark. If the eight people would not sleep or take a break, or harvest wood for building the boat, and the size of the boat would be limited to the size of Wyoming, giving it the 1:100 of the needed size, it would take 1.250.000 years to build with the tools available for Noah and family.

Apologists and preachers #GottaLieForGod after all... This one in particular. The ideal shape for the ark, that was just supposed to drift during the flood and have no rigging and zero hope at steering, would have been square or circular. Square would have been easier to build and reduce the amount of wood required to build it, and circular to use the strict minimum amount of wood for the maximum capacity. Both would also be the most stable and probably comfortable.

5:30 - Oh God Yes, you'd easily be Copeland rich and without all the previous stated traits; probably a highly successful supervillain; trust me, it's always a step up when you go from genius to evil genius! ;) I did some [rough] math regarding the Ark's potential tonnage using an admittedly low estimate of numbers or animals times an averaged weight and the weight of all the food and water you would need for all of them; and I only did it for the 40 days, not the year; and that figure once adjusted iirc came to about 900,000 tonnes;* or as I more readily remember it - Noah's Ark having the same tonnage as 10 Nimitz aircraft carrier. 10 of their mass, some 87,000 tonnes each, on a footprint far smaller than a 1/4 of one of them. Noah's an excellent carpenter normally under such stresses would not just snap but splinter; then again if we were 500yrs old I'm sure we/I hope we would have learnt some amazing things or two... hundred!? :D * In "reality"with exponentially more animals and life and the subsequent exponential, exponential (yes twice) amount of water and food needed that figure probably short an order of magnitude or two. What caused the global flood; Noah's ship crashing and all the water he needed for the journey streaming out; cutting out, that much water in that confined a space, given a hole - Noah's ark would have gone sub-sonic; a water rocket (do that Elon); sadly everyone inside is already paste due to a number of factors, which each alone could managed! :D Apologies for ^^ evil genius can some times come with insanity[fine line between the two] and some insomnia; it's 8:40am; ha to top it off I've been 420 for 4hr's20 since 4:20 and now I want some Blackbird pie!? >XD

Noah's Ark had no sails, rudder, propellor, mast, keel, or a prayer of staying afloat. It was too long for a totally wooden structure to float in a small lake without rotting over 80 years while he built it. Noah would had to have organized an industry to haul and work timber. A lumber yard. A shipyard and a launch ramp or support for his boat. Hundreds of draft animals. A transportation hub. His own road network. Purchased 100s of tons of supplies and would need tons of money to acquire all of the things he needed. His supplies would have rotted in storage while he labored to build his boat. His labor force was 8 people.

There are 12 portals; 3 each in the north, east, south, and west. This is Enoch's description of the north: ""I went towards the north to the ends of the Earth ... 9:24, not true, the wooden paddle steamer Solano was the same length and beam as the supposed size of the Ark..the engineer Arthur Brown used some interesting wooden trusses to support the hull along with masts with guidewires. However she was only designed to travel a distance of a mile on a river..the stresses of the open ocean would have torn her hull apart.

Solano: 425 x 116 ft (130 x 35 m) Noah's Ark: 440 x 72 ft (134 x 22 m) -- Wikipedia Actually, Noah's Ark would have been torn apart on the open ocean as well

You base your rationalizations on wrong assumptions. FACT: the Noah's Ark needed two rooms only, one door only, bot sized after the biggest animal to be put in there. The Ark needed to have length no more than 20 meters, width no more than 7 meters, if height not big. Unfortunately, it needed to acomodate giraffe, and for that reason only, the Ark needed to be somewhat bigger, width some 10 to 12 meters, length some 30 meters. Do the calcullus! that size, only one room, only one door, can acomodate all animals on Earth, all necessary food, with one room for every individual animal or human, with many rooms for food. The other room is the Access Room. If you did not get how it was done, you have low IQ. It was not only Noah, it was also Dog. Dog told Noah to build that room, with that door, then Dog did the rest. The door of the Access Room opens to any of the Storage Rooms, at will. Dog does that.

I read the arch article. It says that the dimensions and material are unclear in Bible but in theory the boat could float buy adding 2 of every animal and food and water would most likely sink it.
