May try this out. Sadly if I got rid of everything that didn't bring me joy, I wouldn't have towels, clothes or much of anything. Lol like you, I'd have to be practical about it and actually get my husband on board

Definitely read the book before you start - I had exactly the same worry but she explains it pretty well (The Life-Changing Magic is great for the theory but I thought Spark Joy was more helpful in terms of actually going through the process). Obviously, you need to have things like towels or tools that may not spark joy in the strictest sense; but she doesn't recommend you chuck them if you need them, you just focus on appreciating them for the job they do (basically - she says it better!). At the very least, it's worth a read to see if it speaks to you :)

I guess she meant if you have 30 towels and you only need 20 you should choose the 20 that spark more joy than the 10 you get rid of.

I’m new in your channel and when I discovered a new channel I’d like to check all the videos. I love your style that’s why I subdscribed but I need to tell you that this video and the one before are my favourite. My house is a mess and I’ve been questioning myself about toilet paper too, so thank you thank you, because your planification open my eyes and I really one to do something similar. Enhorabuena!

This video was very helpful, informative & inspiring. I read Marie's 1st book and now want to read 'Spark Joy'. I had started her tidying process but need to continue. Thank you very much!!!

The strict version of this doesn’t work with a family that includes smaller children. Her folding method makes me laugh a little ... I already have trouble keeping up with laundry and now she wants me to make origami art out of my socks. I know this video is older not sure if you have since did an update ...

I don’t have kids, but I can imagine it’s harder to keep up with given that I sometimes can’t be bothered to refold things nicely! 😂 i’d like to do an update at some point...but it probably won’t be for a while 🙈

+Carol Gallupe Thank you! You should definitely check out the book if you haven't - her set up really inspired a lot of my drawings!

Out of all spreads I've seen so far, yours gives me the most peace - and also your explanation behind it and your slight changes make it so much more something I would like (and need) to do. As for your list though, which are your subcategories, if you don't mind me asking? The image is just too blurry to make it out, and it'd be really helpful to divide a big task into smaller tasks.

Thank you! I'm glad my explanations were helpful :D If you mean the tasks under clothes, books, papers, komono, sentimental, and digital...I actually posted the spread on my IG ( posted it in April, so you have to scroll down a bit). It's better quality and you can zoom in! :) (Also, I've got way too many categories to type up here! hehe) Hope that helps!!

Oops, just now seeing your reply, only a month later lol. That's awesome! Fairfax is such a cool city, and GMU is even better; I loved living so close to DC. Small world :)

What is the name of the book? Love the idea

It's called "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo (the second book is "Spark Joy").

There's now a manga (graphic novel) of this book- the life-changing manga of tidying up. It integrates a story with her method. Marie is a character in the manga.

Funny, there is "simplify your life" since over 20 years telling all of this and in 2017 it is the KonMari method...... New ways to make money with it.....

Haha that’s true! I think sometimes it takes a different presentation/perspective to make it stick which is why so many “rehashes” of the same idea are still so popular!

+4.3 Hall Up cycling is when you take something (like a box from a package you got) and use it for something else (storage for stamps, for example)!
