Reference Notebook For Permanent Bullet Journal Collections

Hey there Planners! Here is a question for you: What do you do with long-term or permanent collections in your bullet journal? Do you re-write them every time you set up a new planner or bullet journal? Do you house them in a separate bullet journal?
Today I am sharing with the the solution I have come up with for this question and how I am using it. I am using a Traveler's Notebook insert as a Reference Notebook that accompanies my Stalogy Bullet Journal.

One thing I would add to your Christmas Gift buying pages is what size garments that your family wears. You could also write down your sizes as well (to send photo of to people who are buying for you). I know your kids are grown, but it's often helpful to have their sizes handy when you come across something you think that they might like. And since they are grown having their sizes (which don't change that much) in a reference book instead of your yearly, only makes sense. 💖🌞🌵😷

I am a huge printables user, mainly because I suck at anything artistic, but I can create wonderful printables in PowerPoint. Thus, I keep a pptx file with everything I need in my bujo, i.e., habit trackers, calendars, important notes, teaching kanban, daily & weekly reset lists, books I've read/ waiting for/ wishlist, family's favorite meals by category/ meal plan/ main shopping list, things about my son (school schedule, Spanish lessons, swimming lessons), someday/maybe list, GTD flowchart, birthdays, when did I last list. Given that everything I make is floral, in magenta/pinkish colors, it creates aesthetic cohesion without too much further decorations and I can edit anything I need for my next bujo, when I find something missing. I have printed my brain dump trigger list and my Today's tasks kanban on cardboard (pre-designed on the back) to be able to move them for easy reference, instead of using multiple journals. The only things I draw by hand are: weekly spreads, two two-page kanbans to keep track of my academic work, and my projects lists/tasks. Anything else is printed, and it's super easy for me, because they are already measured and sized for my Rhodia softcover B5. I need to set up a Tombow swatch, but I will make it in spare pages from my previous Rhodia and move it from journal to journal with washi tape. The only thing I feel the need to actually make is a reading journal as a reference notebook.

I usually repeat the spreads that I need the most in every bullet journal, some of the collections I've created are good reference but I don't need to always carry them around so I simply indicate the page and bullet journal they're in in the index so that I always know where to find them if I need them. Sometimes I change the spreads I repeat to adjust what didn't work or to make them simpler or more useful, for some I don't feel I've gotten the most out of yet, so the repetition is helpful in that sense because each time I have a chance to improve upon them. I think having a smaller separate notebook would work best for collections that would be repeated exactly the same, especially if you need them always around. I have a self care masterlist and a spread for topics I want to learn more about that I could totally include in a reference notebook of my own, and a spread for books I want to read and other media would work really well too. I might just set one up in time for my next bullet journal, thank you for this!

I use a Hobonichi Cousin Avec as my calendar and an A5 Half-year Stálogy as my reference book which I refer to as my planner supplement. I house both books I'm one cover and it goes with me everywhere. Great video...Thanks for sharing! New subscriber!🙂

I carry a Hobonichi Cousin Avec + Hobonichi A5 Plain (Reference) notebook as my EDC. Great video! In my "Books" section, I journal a few pages about key concepts I learned. I usually get library books, hence do not own them. My favourite : a "Meetings" section with detailed notes written in real time. Work meetings, training, seminars. I find it inspiring and helps keep track of "next actions". Notebook has 288 pages! I enjoy using tombows, zebra markers, washi tape to add colour and joy! It helps me commit my daily musings to my memory. Appreciate you sharing journal setup. Very helpful.

I've been doing this for years, even though I've changed the type of planners I've used since. It's nice to see someone else doing this and making a video about it. (I'm not great at videos.) I used an A5 slim (cacher) that I would swap out between my TN & tuck it into my Leuchtturm or just toss it in my bag. I need to make a new one since I don't use much of the info in it anymore, I started it in 2014. :-) Thank you for sharing this with us.

Oh my gosh, I'm definitely doing it this way from now on! I HAD been rewriting this stuff at a book change. It had even become part of my process of transitioning to look over my collections and decide which ones I need to recreate! My suggestion would be to consider dedicating 20-25 pages for a Contacts collection. I have a little, almost sample-sized, notebook that's 25 pages that I use -- and will probably be one of the first things I put into my reference notebook. Thank you so much for this video. You had me ROTFL at the list of lists, maybe because I can see myself doing that, but haven't yet. When I started to watch your video, I thought the bucket list would be perfect for this, because when you make a bucket list, it is usually for your lifetime, like your books read list. I've been sticking to a B5 notebook because I have a nice cover that I've decorated, so it will be easy to add a mini travel journal and do this. Finding a B5 notebook dotted, numbered, with lots of thick pages is hard though.

Also...for B5...I use a B5 for work. I use Minimalism Art notebook (Amazon). Dotted, numbered, 100gsm paper. Limited colors but otherwise a great notebook.

Planning Annie I thought 100 gsm bleeds. I thought it had to be 160 gsm

Sorry, I just checked Amazon, it is 120gsm, not 100gsm. I don't use fountain pens or water colors in it. There is some light ghosting with markers but great with pen. You can see it in my work bullet journal playlist where I do some setup videos. Really depends on what media you want to use in it.

I don't have a good way to share this. But I will share how I created it. I started by dumping ideas into a Word document, searched on Pinterest for example packing lists and then walked around my house just adding items to the list. Hope this helps!

@@PlanningAnnie So many people are looking for help to organize their planners without dropping a lot of money on something they may or may not actually find helpful. It’s disappointing to spend $5 on a printable that’s difficult to print correctly, the cut horizontal guidelines disappear when cutting along the vertical guidelines, and then don’t turn out to be what we thought they would be. Or buying multiple printable to take pieces from each to combine into one that works. I say if the Lord is leading you to share, then go for it.
