I really respect how Ryder is intentional about championing his methodology and only gently nods towards monetizing his own business such as pushing the Bullet Journal Notebooks. Having been a Bullet Journal practitioner since the year this was invented, I can honestly say that I actually think the official notebooks are the best!

I always liked buying planners, but none ever sticked more than a month or two. But in August 2017 i started Bullet Journaling, tho i had some rough patches, i've always stuck with it and i really love it. Sometimes creative with a million drawings as a creative outlet, sometimes just the original bujo method. This year marks 8 years of using Bullet Journaling 🥰

What a perfect metaphor: behind you, the trees are shaken by the wind. In the protected space sits the undisturbed thinker Ryder Caroll and teaches us with true greatness how to get our lives together with pen and paper. Life is raging outside, in the notebook and in the bullet journal community we are protected from the noise and have space to unfold. Thanks for all this, Ryder! It's fun to go on a journey of discovery together.

I would love to say that this is just another thing someone is pushing to make you feel like you have to try it BUT I tried it on a smaller bullet journal back in 2017 and was hooked! I do have anxiety and depression and bullet journalling is my creative outlet and the way I document my life as well as work related events (when I worked). Since I retired last year, I took a year off thinking I didn't need to track anything or pay too much attention to life as it happened, but I miss it som much and wish I had documented all the things that happened last year. I picked it back up again this year and feel like a weight has been lifted and I'm back feeling "at home" again. Of course, I don't follow the traditional method, but I do bullet journalling how it works for me and how it will keep me interested. Thank you so much for introducing this method because, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why planners never made the cut.

Ryder is so modest! You can use any notebook but when you are trying to figure out what parts of the bullet journal fit to your life, I’ve found it extremely helpful to just buy a bullet journal notebook off of the website and start there. I have tried other notebooks/planners, and while I had micro-level success with a tiny common place notebook, the reality is I have been the most successful thus far with an official bullet journal. 🎉🎉🎉

I have been journaling since 2018. Before this year it was random and chaotic. But now as I have inculcated BuJo techniques in it and I am really amazed by the science and productivity it has provided. And above all is the clarity that I got everyday by writing my journaling!!!!!

The "Someday Log" was a realization I had this year and it is very freeing knowing that I've captured some wild hair thing that piqued my interest in the moment, but it's not the most important thing to focus on at the moment.

So, Here I am, procrastinating... again. Gosh, I just set up my Bujo last night, and I haven't heard about "Someday Log" before. Luckily, I wrote everything down in pencil first, so I'll be able to change the 'Goal' title to 'Someday Log'. My last Bullet Journal was The (original) Notebook in navy blue, and I had it for the last 1.5 years. It was a charming thing to use, and I regret not getting one before! The paper is smooth, resistant, feels great turning pages, the pen's ink didn't ghost the back page, and is beautifully numbered, which is a must. The only con of the notebook was that the cover peeled in the first couple of months, so I painted those white spots with what I thought was the same color, and it looked kind of worse imo, lmao. I'm a teacher, so hopefully I'll start again with the original Bujo in July, as I prefer beginning every school year... but my last notebook lasted exactly till the end of December. So, for this semester, I'm using a random pocket-size dotted notebook until then, but the paper quality isn't the best and it is not numbered, which bothers me a lot. I hope I can get the Artist Edition for next July, that cover is gorgeous! I'm going to ask it to my family as a birthday gift! 😝 As I just get my meds, I’m feeling quite chatty (because I'm in procrastination mode), so in case you’re interested, here’s my set up for this semester: • YEARLY LOG: I'm currently using the previous version of Ryder's, as the notebook is small. This time I did a basic, horizontal 3 month per page layout for only 6 months (Jan-Jun), but I usually vertically divide the page in three, write a tiny monthly calendar at the top of the column and leave the bottom part for future logging. • MONTHLY LOG: I do need a calendar to handwrite upcoming tasks, even so when I accidentally had use it as a "timeline". I select a specific-colored highlighter for the top days of the month, and to do a little bit of lettering, as my handwriting sucks. I had previously used the original list version for a couple of years, but I believe that a grid calendar suits me best for my needs. Maybe again I could give it a try in the future. • - I also added a page like the original monthly log, where I split the page in half, dividing it with the stickers that came with the Bullet Journal (originally made for the monthly log), where I input the Habit Tracker on the left, and a Gratitude Log on the right. • - For the "action plan" of the monthly log, I split it into two parts: Personal (which I check at home) and Professional (which I check at the beginning of school day). • DAILY LOG: I do this as usual, with the common bullets. For the date, I use the same-colored highlighter as the month, both for the monthly log (calendar) and the daily log's date, giving it a minimalist theme. This helps my ADHD brain to understand the timeline and the relationship between whatever is happening in the month and helps me to ultra-signified important tasks that I’ve been procrastinating on, you know, with lots of ‘>’. • WEEKLY LOG: I honestly haven’t used it yet. I don’t fully understand how to use it, but eventually. So, if it’s a reflection of what happened throughout the week, I sadly can’t this feature right now, as it feels like is a private practice. The thing is that I've been a "classroom-less" teacher for the last 6 years, and I spent the day running around the school. I have a very challenging combined ADHD brain, so I'm somewhat scared of losing it. However, for the last 6 months I have kept my longer thoughts logs (journaling) on a separated, fingerprint-locked diary app until I get my own classroom. I’m currently writing a hint of what's going on with bullets like - or =, but add the signifier » (Double >) if I get the chance to expand on the topic in the diary app. • COLLECTIONS: I don’t know if I’m doing it right, but this time I put a list of things I’m interested in and brain dumping sections right after the index and before the Yearly Log. If I eventually need some sort of other random information, I add the corresponding number to the index. • INDEX: I write the numbers of the pages first in an invisible left side column, leaving a wide space for additional numbers, and then the title of whatever is on that page. I do, however, highlight the name of the month with the same color used on that specific month, because it helps me to navigate quickly between pages. The rest of my set up is pretty much like Ryder's older-basic versions, but I gotta catch up with the Bujo Practice more. I must work on my intentions and many more features he’s teaching us. Anyway, it will turn out all right because 2025 will be MY YEAR! 🙏

I often write tasks in my daily log that i dont do on that day and then delay multiple times. That is frustrating for me especially when i have a day where i delay more tasks than i actually have accomplished. So thats what i use the Weekly for. Just as a weekly action plan, because accomplishing the tasks in the course of a week is more realistic. Its a way for me to stop overloading the Daily Logs

Wonderland222 has this amazing 3 months calendar view + notes on one spread layout that I want to figure out replicating on my Bujo. Having a quartely plan helps to see the future in a good junk, few months at the same time, but not too much to make things too zoomed out. I also love how they have made the calendar flow seamlessly from a month to another.

I am trying to follow your method but am struggling with one thing, and that's tracking my deadlines as a student. How would you recommend I do this while maintaining the "timeline is not a calendar" concept, where it only contains things that actually happen? My assignments are due whether I actually do them or not, lol.

@bulletjournal 14 күн бұрын
Welcome to Bujo! This is a great question and people usually use a digital calendar, or they double the timeline so they use one for planning ahead with deadlines, and the other as the "what happened." Does that help?

I remember a video from him where he explained how he uses his digital calendar in addition to his bullet journal: Calendars are for scheduling what you think will happen, bujo is for reflecting on what actually did happen. A physical timeline is not as flexible if something changes so I remember him advising against using it that way. That being said: Personally, I mostly write important upcoming events in pencil in my timeline anyways as a reminder, because I usually just look at my current week in my digital calendar and not at the monthly overview.
@HannahReece
@HannahReece 15 күн бұрын
What’s “right” is what works for you. The BuJo is flexible enough to both plan the future and reflect on the past. I put future appointments on my monthly log and check that daily, but some people might find it easier to check a digital calendar instead. As long as you keep the appointments you intended to keep it doesn’t matter really. The BuJo is a tool to serve you, not the other way around

The Daily Log shown at 3:00 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2mXepWpaqt9aas) seems to have been modified compared to the initinal method. I can make a rhyme out of the 3 priorities that need to be done during the day. But what's the deal with the times? Are they noted at the time you start the task? For what purpose? Are you the orginator of the dot grid in the journals? And what are they for exactly? I have a hartime consentrated, completing task. Getting past rhe overwhelm that causes my panic and anxiety from just listing all thr things i need to do is not happenening. So then im stuck.
@loredo182

I believe they are a guide so you can create a grid on your page. Like perhaps you have 20 or so dots horizontally, divide it by 2 (10-10) and you have devide the page in half and so on.
@childcrone
@childcrone 16 күн бұрын
What loredo182 said, and it helps you keep your written entries straight, whether horizontally or vertically, while being much more subtle than lines or grid for drawings/sketches. I think if you start to practice what Ryder describes in this video, especially the part about putting just a few of the 'most alive' things into your daily log, it will help with your overwhelm and focus.
@bulletjournal
@bulletjournal 16 күн бұрын
I definitely didn't originate the dot grid, rather they were my favorite compromise between the structure of lines and the freedom of the blank page. And you are definitely not alone in the overwhelm. Meeting yourself with curiosity and compassion is a skill we find all our lives. In the book, there is an exercise called the Mental Inventory - you get everything out of your mind onto paper for what you are doing, should be doing, and want to be doing. Then, you apply the Migration Filter (CARE). The goal is to always be eliminating what does not deserve to take our time and attention. And we keep revisiting the actions this way each week, month, etc. The Monthly Ritual video talks more about the CARE filter - over time, it helps prune your list. You got this.

Special request Bullet Journal... Imagine a person who grew up in the foster kid system, being bounced around from one place to the next, never really having a chance to build relationships with anyone who might be able to teach them all those skills, concepts, habits, and techniques that successful parents take the intentional time to teach their children as they're growing up... that person then ages out of the system, goes on to college and lives in the dorms because that's the best option for a roof over their head, but they're so far behind that they do their best to catch up, but they don't know what they don't know so they don't know the right questions to ask and the right places to look for help. They then graduate and get into their 30's and 40's and still feel so far behind because they just never got those foundational life lessons that so many other kids grow up getting, let alone, the life lessons many learn in college because they were set up so well for success by their parents before they even got there... so they're still behind and still struggling. THAT is me - and THAT is thousands of other people, believe it or not. What I would give to see you put together a complete video series that really digs in deep, starts with the basics, and then works its way up to learning how successful adults set themselves up for a well prepared and prosperous life. What are the habits they do each day? How do they organize they life and themself too? What do successful people know about money that poor people don't seem to get? What are those things successful people do differently that set them apart? I think you get where I'm going... I would sure love to see you do a full complete video series on basically, how to adult and how to adult successfully - there are so many more people out there who need this just as much as I do. I'm just the only one saying it. Any chance you'd be willing to do something of that nature? I'd sure be grateful if you did. (I need a step by step kind of game plan... I missed it all growing up and while yes, I'm watching videos like yours and reading as much as I can, I feel like I'm just bouncing around all over again grabbing bits and pieces as I can. I need someone to take us from start to finish - point A to point B, from frustrated and floundering to competent and confident, from a poor mindset to a wealthy mindset, from a scattered way of life to organized and efficient...). I think you get it. Help!

Schade. Diese automatische KI Sprache ist grauenvoll. Dann lieber Untertitel.....

I just love your videos. I have been a bullet journal-er for 5 years now! and I have been your loyal customer - I read your book and blog, I watch your videos, and I use your notebooks only! I tried other notebook but quickly came back to Bullet Journal notebooks 😉 Just want to let you know that you have been doing great, impactful works and hopefully this will bring you joy and gratitude 😊
