I checked the date of the video, and it has indeed been awhile. It's my understanding that BulletSafe has recently improved their design and materials. If you were inclined to revisit their product it would be interesting to see a redemption (or utter failure ) video for their 3A vest.

I guess the video is food for though for me. I bought a BulletSafe IIIA vest and a couple IV plates a year or so ago. I didn't do my research I just wanted something on short notice because, long story short, I needed something _right then_ and only one place I could walk-in near me had anything available. Hopefully the IV plates are decent, I saw the vest as more a glorified plate carrier anyway, with _hopefully_ some protection of it's own Maybe since I bought mine in the last year my vest isn't as bad as the one in this video. I don't know. But getting a vest and a front+back plate for the cost that some companies sell the vest alone, the vest being low quality is worth it for me if the plates work. I don't do security or anything so my most likely threat level is probably 9mm tops. Either way, next time I have the money I'm gonna do more research and spend the money on a vest I know I can trust. Costing 2-3x more is probably a good idea if you have the money The reality though, is that not everyone can afford good armor, especially the average person living in a bad area who would be more likely to need armor in the first place, so a lower cost option at least gives them _some_ kind of chance. But it's scummy for a company to prey on that kind of demographic in the first place. Not to mention, I can't imagine someone _else_ in a low SES area splurging on JHP rounds, and so FMJ is likely the norm and the vest might be even less useful in practice I don't wanna get shot wearing a vest to find out though, not even an expensive one. There's really no way to know for sure ahead of time; too many factors going on. You're gambling no matter what. That's why mentally I treat even expensive armor like it's cardboard, to keep myself vigilant. Some point fall in the trap of feeling too safe just because they have a vest

This is not the current armor being sold by bullet safe. Since this video was made years ago, the company has been sold and the armor has been changed. I'm glad you're wearing a vest regardless of what brand it comes from. Hopefully you'll never needed to do its job.

Odd link the video please If you mean the euro optic video funny thing that should be taken into account if backing we see it fail with a solid backing and work just fine eith one that gives away (its a plastic mannequin) essentially when the backing beaks its giving the vest more opportunity to stop the bullet you dont get that with the body you get internal bleeding and once it given in enough you dont get anymore give and the round penetrates Basically its moving the vest more than its trying to penetrate it So best case scenario the company has serious qc issues and it functioning varies from vest to vest so youre rolling the dice on whether or not it will stop a bullet or worst case scenario they're all garbage and shit testing has made stupid people think they're amazing

Ok 3 rounds close to each other defeated the body armor, who is going to stand there and take 3 shots without moving? ( no one) and with the ultra light plates it would be the same ( no one will stand there taking multiple rounds without moving. # 1 rule “ all body armor can be defeated.

Level 3 is only rated to stop7.62x51 FMJ. That is the only round the NIJ requires. Any and everything else is a "special threat," and self certified by the company (who hopefully sends it off to someplace like HP White labs). UHMWPE is noce and light and will stop tons of 7.62 and many .223 or 5.56 FMJ like the M193 that steel has issues with. Unfortunately it usually won't stop M855 or "green tip." Nor anything with any kind of steel core.

Being an armed guard I know all too well what some security companies are paying. I know its hard to dish out the cash especially when you have to make a living on a security budget. But when it comes to the equipment that might be saving your ass one day the cheapest route is not the best way to go. Several armed security guards that I know and work with use these and I have repeatedly warned them about going the cheap route. I say this not to boast but I panned out almost $700.00 for my Safariland ABA armor. I know several agencies in my area that issue that exact vest to their officers and deputies. I'd rather be a little tight on cash and have a product that I know is going to do its job that to have a full wallet and take a dirt nap as well as my wife getting the worst phone call imaginable in the morning. NIJ testing doesn't use rigid material backing like boards but soft clay, and other videos show that it works fine with ballistic gel or dummies, not wooden Mannequins. I guess you have proven that Pinnochio shouldn't buy a Bulletsafe vest. But people are not made of wood and your test does not appear consistent and introduced variables that may have been the cause of failure. Also comparing it to an old Kevlar vest shot at much closer range means nothing as it is not the same material and certainly has different characteristics.
@psychopathmedia
@psychopathmedia Жыл бұрын
Yeah from what I read, armor vests protect _better_ at close range since the bullet hasn't fully spin-stabilized yet and more likely to be yawed on impact. I'm not sure if this is significant in the test but you bring up some good points. There's enough variables that I don't feel completely ripped off yet for buying one. Most online tests are dubious at best so I take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully I never have to find out while wearing it though

The high density polyethylene is actually superior to kevlar in terms of weight to performance. The trade off however is that kevlar melts at over 500C whereas polyethylene melts readily enough to be 3d printable. High density is code for basically the plastic equivalent of forging which 3d printers CANNOT do, let alone injection molds. I suspect this heat tolerance difference is relevant if someone was actually savy enough to work out high velocity low cross sectional density handgun calibers probably have less issue going through the stuff of plastic bags you take home from grocery shopping. Its rated (marketing really) for .500 s&w which is above the call of duty in terms of level 3A. Its a tad bulky for my taste, but its overkill for what its suppose to do. As for the .44 magnum going through, what were you using buffalo bore hardcasts against a board nailed to a structure with no give like a human body? Thats a fascinating result id love to know more about. Im poised to do some level 3 security for about a year or so with this very vest until I get my shit together. Skills mostly. I just find it odd they would release a product without testing it then hand it out to test for free, which makes me mighty suspicious. Much like the game played with out of date plastic armor that magically decomposes under the influences of sweaty man boob action.
@remasteredretropcgames3312
@remasteredretropcgames3312 4 жыл бұрын
Alright if you wont bite, I think ill just put it this way. Hardcasts arent that hard, even being a lead amalgamation. They also are heavier, and comparatively slow. Armor threatening bullets are basically spinning supersonic drill bits, and as the material stretches under impact, its physically rotating against plastic. You arent going through level 3A even handloaded from a redhawk with this sort of projectile. I own a .44 magnum and this very vest, and if I wanted I could prove it does what it was designed if I didnt mind it having damage, which I do, but its also a mere 3 benjamins which to even me isnt shit. Ive seen a video where a 5.45 steel core with a makarov case behind it, went through a level 3A vest. Energy isnt nearly as important as you might think it is. Spritzers or something like the extreme defender flutes that are almost knifelike, velocity with less mass behind it preventing deformation is what goes through armor. Velocity means the bullet spins faster which means more heat, which the kevlar vest again looking at its properties is why firefighters use it. There is a number of ways to blotch the test, like simply taking out the actual body armor component and putting it in an oven to degrade it where kevlar you would be able to melt ultem 1010 with glass or carbon fiber in it before it decides to change density and thats not an easy or cheap endeavor without putting a literal flame to it. Also polyethylene would yield more readily to tracers because it would simply melt. Yes pointy bullets yaw and tumble, but steel nipple 5.56 can go through level 3A all day, but also sucks at going through continuous barriers like wood. A vest is a very brief inconvenience, and thank god criminals in general are fucking stupid, or they wouldnt be criminals. As such most threats arent going to be sophisticated or wildcat cartridges, but my aspirations are to become a detective, and to be honest with you bro, I have a lot of trouble believing that a handy piece of equipment being marketed in part through youtube and word of mouth he said she saids isnt a dollar sign consideration behalf entire police departments weighing in on the cost to safety question. At the same time, neither this vest or the other is technically what is possible in terms of performance envelope, and yet I cant help but think about where the taxes I pay go because thats what some of us do.
@remasteredretropcgames3312
@remasteredretropcgames3312 4 жыл бұрын
And one more thing. The specific heat of polyethylene is insanely high. It might melt far more readily, but it doesnt get to that temperature as fast either. In truth they are about the same, the SLD vest might hold up better under certain threats, but you have to actually try. Walmart grade .44 magnum isnt going to cut it man. Period. Dont insult our intelligence, because thats pretty shady basically coming out and "proving" its not even level 3A kosher.

Everyone who says this assumes people choose their budget, which is BS. You rather poor people stop 0 rounds of 9mm instead of 3? Blame the company for fraudulent behavior. There's no realistic way an average person looking for affordable armor would be able to afford doing even a rudimentary test like this one when they might barely be able to afford a vest in the first place, so it's not like they'd know ahead of time

Looks like it's just an average company. Even if the armor was good, the company's outer carriers don't look good. The "tactical" carrier doesn't have enough molle on it for practically carrying gear. If someone is using a tactical outer carrier, they're probably going to want more room for gear and customization. For example, lots of Officers with a tactical vest carry their radio on the left side of the vest. It doesn't look like that carrier will let you do that. The uniform carrier has some sloppy looking features like buttons and the adjustable panels. The buttons are way too big, bigger than any standard uniform buttons. The adjustable panels overlap too much to make it look a lot less neat and clean looking. Also, I didn't see any badge tab or mic tabs/loops for the radio. Chest pockets are a little low too. Honestly the only good thing I could say about it is the pleat lines look okay and the name tag Velcro is big enough for just about any name tag plus maybe another patch. At a glace, it looks like the company is playing catch up. It just looks like they are trying to make a version of and catch up with Safariland, Survival Armor, Point Blank, and SafeLife. I'm sure the company will argue that they had a reason to make the carrier panels look that way or it looks that way to accommodate the armor. However, their competitors are going to one up them if they don't fix the appearance and ballistic performance. Without fixing those things, their market will be low budget departments, security, and civilian. Not sure if they'll really make any money off that. Of course, this vest would be better than nothing, but if the consumer has a choice in the matter I doubt they'd choose this.

Yeah, totally. I'm new to the armed security field, and, slowly acquiring equipment. While, most certainly, there are folks that I can ask their opinion(s) about things, at the same time, I'm aware that most average folks don't really have the experience, across numerous brands & types, to really give me a whole lot more than opinion. Something, like what is demonstrated here, can't be argued with. It's not an opinion, it's life & death fact! So, now I know that I won't be the proud, vulnerable, unprotected owner of a $299- Bulletsafe vest, for damn sure!

I commented to this video but wanted to reply to someone else's. I think this video is misinforming viewers.. first off you can't sell armor at the rated level without passing several tests. and 2nd he never showed the actual damage to the vest. I've watched several others with same vest and different reviewers never coming to this conclusion. so either this guy is lying or someone didn't assemble a vest properly and since they're made in the USA I highly doubt it and bet this guy took a kickback for dissing it. Oh and big give away is he was trying to say no other company uses Polyethylene sheets... lies

Before i became a cop i was an armored car guard. I went out on my own and purchased a safe life vest out of pocket because my company used bullet safe vests. I saw this channels review on safe life and saw other channels review the bullet safe. Needless to say im appalled companies trust bullet safe as opposed to forking over extra cash on quality vests

I'm currently in the CIT industry myself, and I was wanting to buy a SafeLife vest as well, but my company would only allow "Company Issued equipment" for liability reasons. At least they gave me a PSP 3A vest, which is pretty decent. Ended up having to pay for it off my pay cheques, but that was fine with me. Now they issue vests free of charge, but they still technically belong to the company when you leave, and have to turn them in, which I think is BS since it's sized and fitted for you, and you only.q

These vests are not designed to be the baddest around it's just a little added protection in the event you get in a gun fight. Which obviously your goal will be to find cover and not get shot, would you rather have that or nothing? Furthermore the Truth is people like me are packing 55 grain aluminum alloy rounds and no vest out there is stopping that! Not even if I hit you with a 380 liberty round, it's still going through your armor guaranteed!

Bottom line - I would not trust my life to that soft vest. The hard plate maybe and the shield yes but if I can't be confident that it's going to stop 9mm then I'm not wearing it. If I had a choice (I don't) then I'd go for the Safe Life Defense L3a+ soft armour. Can't remember off hand what my department issues but IIRC it's equivalent to L3a+.

Everyone who says this assumes people choose their budget, which is BS. You rather poor people stop 0 rounds of 9mm instead of 3? Blame the company for fraudulent behavior. There's no realistic way an average person looking for affordable armor would be able to afford doing even a rudimentary test like this one when they might barely be able to afford a best in the first place, so it's not like they'd know ahead of time
