the problem with the high premium stuff is dealers won't pay any higher for it than any other regular silver, but they dang sure don't put it for sale at those low prices once they buy it from you for cheap.

@@syovar1 lol let's not pretend there's depreciation in silver due to its age like a couch...please. If you enjoy paying $80-$120 for some "fancy silver" and then having dealers tell you they can only pay close to spot for it...while then listing it for the full $80-$120, that's your call. I just pointed out that annoying fact. Don't hate the messenger. 🤣

As someone who just sold more than half my stack (need the money)let me just say if I could do it over Id buy generic silver for resale and ONLY buy items with premiums for myself NOT for resale but rather for fun to hand down to family...If you have time to sell you can get most your money back or make a good profit BUT when time is short you want bulk silver you do NOT have an emotional attachment to...Id suggest 10% or less of your overall stack should have premiums unless you have over 100K in stacking and dont need the money...
@edb3877

Good point about those who have a large stack looking differently at premium issues. I keep good records of every oz. of gold and silver I've ever bought, inherited, or received as a gift. I keep a couple of backups of this spreadsheet and also make an annual paper copy. When it comes time to sell some of this, I want to be able to pay any tax that is due on the profits. I'm hoping that the US Gov stops taxing capital gains taxes on bullion. Those of us who see gold and silver AS MONEY should not have it taxed, not because of anything we did, but because the US Gov created inflation that then caused the value to go up. If they were to do this only for US Mint gold and silver coins, that would be a good start because this is a large part of my stack.

Agreed, and for Heaven's sake, have everything you buy tested with a Sigma tester *before* you hand over the cash. Most coin shops have one of these because they NEED to test every bit of silver and gold coming over the counter *before* they buy it. The last thing any reputable dealer wants is to sell someone a fake coin.

Reason why I spring for "collectables" that have pretty much the same premiums as Britannia and Philharmonics. Back in 2018, I had a spare $100 and bought three 2 oz Unicorn of Scotland pieces. Today, well over $100 per coin, but they were worth similar in 2020. There's no guarantee that the tactic pays off, though. Coins worth $89 collector value are still only worth bullion to dealers. No quick profits.

This my thoughts as a new stacker. Buy a few generic rounds. Then think about what you want. Buy that until you get a tube. And or buy other types of rounds/coins to start another interest. If the LCS doesn’t always have your particular round/ coin buy what you can. I personally have a tube started for generic rounds like opm’s or sunshine mint rounds. Be diversified in your collection. Make it fun and diversified. Just my thoughts.

The worst premium in the market is the US Mint. But it's the only way to complete sets. My subscriptions cost me a fortune in premiums. I consider the mint to be screwing the American consumer.
@christophergreyson6953
@christophergreyson6953 2 ай бұрын
Everything the government does screws you over. The mint is just another government agency like the post office that is terribly inefficient because it's a monopoly. I'd wait a few years from when a mint item is released because the prices usually come down at the coin dealers. Dealers are buying the coins from sellers for way below what the mint originally sold them typically unless it was a very low mintage. Just be patient and wait and quit buying from the mint as they are indeed ripoff.

It was interesting to see he saying buying of Valcambi bar would be few % less then spot price. Getting more gold and have bought since then fractions of 2.5g bar, 0.5g coin, and 1/25 oz coin. I disagree. I like smaller denominations because they are more easily spendable in a shtf scenario plus if you sell a large dollar amount to a dealer sometimes you have to show ID depending on where you live. Trying to spend a kilo silver bar for groceries isn't going to happen. A one ounce silver coin is a better bet.

@@TGriffiths-ve6nw sovereign coinage is all 1 oz coins how much smaller do you think it's practical to bother stacking? If here in America we ever have an SHTF situation where you're having to trade your silver for groceries the kilos and 10 add 10 oz bars will be ideal for buying more guns and more ammo to protect those groceries you somehow managed to pay for with your 1 oz coins. So when it comes to buying gold do you just buy one gram pieces and that's it?

Funny he mentions pandas. I stay clear of high premium silver unless its a great deal. I purchased my first panda to add to my stack yesterday. I paid 2 dollars above spot so it was an easy decision to make.

There should be no reason rounds, brittanias or eagles should be AU except for mishandling. They don’t circulate so they should be uncirculated (BU). If someone carries one around in their pocket or uses them as poker chips I guess they could become Almost Uncirculated but since 99.9% are Uncirculated nobody wants to pay the same price for AU/impaired/problem rounds/coins

@michaelfranks341 I can't argue with that. You're right. I'm going by pure looks. I'd rather look at a Woman walking than a portrait of a monarch. Just preference thats all. I like coins I can't get excited about rounds.

@@robertr2731 At hand I want 90% in bulk and ASEs because they are easily recognizable to anyone - but none of those ugly buffaloes because I just hate the design with a passion. No rounds at all for me, for weight it's generic kilo bars. Those are my "Pantera cash-out fund" - when they'll get me a Pantera straight across, they're gone!

I'm saving to pass to my kids. Local dealer told me will always buy Eagles, rounds usually. I don't want my kids to some day be stuck with rounds. Better to be safe and someday when my kid wants to sell, gets top dollar, no hassle.

@@michaelfranks341 How is that an issue if he’s not selling and passing those ASEs down to his kids? Or if he’s waiting until retirement in 20 years before selling the ASEs? You don’t think he’s getting his premium back and then some in 20 years?!? I’m afraid you’re assuming he’s flipping silver in the immediate future when you discount the payout on an ASE.

ASE are still not worth it over generic rounds. You will still lose more money on purchase/sell on a ASE compared to a buffalo round... I only buy ASE when I can find them at spot price

If you came to me to buy food with a bunch of rounds of uncertain origin or purity, you'd go away hungry. I would be more receptive if you wanted to pay in US 90% or ASEs. Foreign coins are pretty but the best PLACE to stack them is in their country of origin. Why? Because having a safety net in Austria, Canada, South Africa, or wherever, that's recognizable and widely accepted by the locals might be a handy thing to have in your back pocket

At first I thought that they were talking about those colorized coins. Those look like 💩to me, so I would never buy or own one. I suppose if I could get one really cheap, I'd give it a xylene dip and remove all that cruddy-looking paint, resulting in a good looking sovereign coin.

However, after every answer Keith gave, you attempted to interpret his answer, which confused the crap out of me. You seemed to go into depth beyond a new persons comprehension which muddied the waters for me. Just my Opinion. But, what the heck, I got through it, I still love you and life goes on. 😍💋😁 THANK YOU for all your videos! 👍

Of course it's investing! You don't buy precious metals for that rainy day and expect them to be worth the same or less, anyone who says so is only lying to himself. The only way they don't appreciate is if we have no inflation, and that will never happen with our Fed and the global banking cabal "making" money like there's no piper to pay.

This is good advice. Stack generic. Get one or two of what you like hi premium. Diversity keeps you interested. Nobody is going to "make money" stacking or collecting gold or silver. You are only going to make money working at yr real job, business (and if investing in the sector) researching the mining or royalty stocks. Just MO

If you pay $35 total for 1oz and you wait and sell it for $40 you make $5 screw the premium. The lion's share of silver to flip is 1 oz rounds and bars. There are always people looking for and buying the cheapest kind of silver.just Take the win.
