I forget who said it first but something that came to mind with all those fantastic knife defense techniques was "disarming someone with a knife without getting cut is like trying to get a sharpie from a toddler without getting marker on you."
@lordtomlluckrahthegreat9014
@lordtomlluckrahthegreat9014 4 ай бұрын
One thing I've always wondered about these kinds of situations is this: if you get a superficial cut on your hands, for example, wouldn't that make you fight harder? I've gotten cuts from using tools and machines and my first reaction has always been to punch these inanimate objects. I just get pissed off immediately. I don't always go through with it, but it is my first will: to retaliate against the thing that caused me pain and injury. He said something like "once you see your own blood, you start to panic" but can that be a good thing? I'd think whatever makes you pump more adrenaline will be beneficial in a fight, specially if you're going to get cut regardless. I guess it depends on the fight or flight reflexes of each individual. Opinions?
@oneghost1257
@oneghost1257 4 ай бұрын
@@lordtomlluckrahthegreat9014 it could I suppose, but I think that's probably going to depend on if you've been stabbed before or not, and how you respond to that. I know I've heard from the accounts of WW1 veterans for example that technique goes out the window first in fights for your life, and it's usually the ones willing to do the most harm who win in hand to hand, but that kind of thing is really only a behavior you'd pick up after experience. So I'd imagine a lot of people in their first encounter with a knife will get more evasive and panicky if they get cut.

@michaelmorrow607
@michaelmorrow607 Ай бұрын
@@lordtomlluckrahthegreat9014 Depends heavily on the individual /and/ level of training. For someone who's spent a long period of time doing realistic and proven training, that adrenaline may be extremely beneficial to them, they may react faster and able to perform the necessary techniques to survive with a higher level of speed and aggression. Unfortunately, for the average person, that same adrenaline response can result in them freezing in place unable to fight. Or losing all sense and making mistakes that put their life in even more danger. So it really depends. If you take someone who has boxed every day for six months, sparred, trained, practiced technique, that adrenaline is going to make them /very/ dangerous in a boxing match. The same adrenaline will make an untrained person much less dangerous, and more at risk, because the muscle memory and neuron pathways for combat are not reinforced like with the trained fighter.

@@KendlickLama😂😂 true but I consider myself English not British as I was born in Plymouth which is in England not Scotland, Wales or Northern Irish. Americans always call English people British and say we speak with a British accent and since Britain is 4 countries with different accents there’s no such thing as a British accent. Yes you can call English people British and be right but Americans call Scottish people Scottish and not British despite them being just as much British as English people. Quite a lot of English people call themselves English (Indians and Pakistanis call themselves British mainly) and there seems to be a rivalry between England and the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish that why we prefer being called English, Scottish etc rather than British. It like throwing the Americans and Canadians in together and say “well you’re all North American with Alaska being up north with north western Canada so what does it matter”

My father has been in a few knife fights as well. First thing he did, in most of them. Run. That's all you can do to not get stabbed. Only a couple of times did he actually have no choice to stay and fight. He said use your shirt or something thick like a jacket or something and wrap it around your arm to protect yourself...and then run. Even then he got cut.

I used to teach some knife techniques when I did martial arts years ago, and the first thing I always said was "DON'T GET INTO A KNIFE FIGHT." The second thing was that if they were in that fight then they were going to get cut and more than once, but if you can take them down or escape do that ASAP.
@loneronin6813
@loneronin6813 10 ай бұрын
@@worsel555 That's the best thing you can teach someone about being in a knife fight. Well, that and making it clear that a knife fight is technically more of a knife attack and it's not some kind of duel, even if you do manage to draw a knife of your own, but that's obviously something you already know given your own experience teaching. I only bring it up because a lot of people have a pre-conceived notion or image in their heads of what a knife fight is, and I think part of that is because people call it a knife fight when really knife attack is a bit more accurate considering it's not something two people just agree to and then both draw their blades. It starts with someone slashing and thrusting at you and if you're aware enough you're able to fend them off and hopefully deal with the scenario without getting killed. In my albeit limited experience with knife attacks, it's rare when you even can draw your own knife if you have one, and certainly not right away. Sorry for prattling on, I just get super into a topic sometimes and then all of a sudden, I wrote a dissertation. My overall point is I agree with you on your teaching methods.

@snakeman9902
@snakeman9902 Жыл бұрын
Good advice, as a general rule, it is advisable to go on your toes, quicker, less chance of injury, however, you can still kick flat footed and still be affective, you tend to be more grounded, I myself can no longer go up on my toes. My toes and the ball of my foot can't take it anymore. If I do go up on my toes, it's hardly noticeable as it maybe an inch, also kick type pending. Back in the 80s, a lot of the bouncers would kick when fighting and they never went on the toes as most do today. For example, a quick front kick to the stomach. (Not martial art style.) Also, a lot of bigger hefty people struggle or don't have the flexibility or toe strength to go up on your toes. If you can though, I would advise to go up on your toes, as you advised. This is not to cause a debate BTW, just to offer a difference of opinion based on my situation now and experience from the past.

at 9 31 there is high level application of the useless yet twinkly and super camp spin,and i love the way that white ninja cockily minces off after doing his shinobi kick locks that would be impossible in a real fight like he just beat grandmaster seagull in a tickle war!

Whatever you do, don't tell them that you learned martial arts from Jesus Christ. They hate that.

I always wonder, what goes through the minds of both the "master" and "the apprentice" during those "no contact bullshit chi force field " fights. I mean, the attacker knows it doesn't work. The victim knows as well. But they've somehow silently agreed to keep this charade going. 1: the master flails about a bit. Never within striking distance of his victim. 2: the victim violently flings himself across the room 3: stand for applause. I just wonder, what they're thinking 😂😂

If you pay attention. You will notice that the same people are falling and rolling around. After few times one of people in the audience will trip, then the instructor will lead attention towards one of people making it seem like they cause someone else to fall. It's based on switching attention between people and an object. Eventually everybody learns how to roll when someone "executes the technique right".

In defense of the indian woman fighting off the attacker, those martial arts moves would legitimately save her from an attacker. If she was a 200lb man, and her attacker was a 70lb woman... 😅
