Really great sort of early Pixies sound- even some Breeders influence there as well. I am very happy that pop music seems to be coming back around and revisiting this sound again. Many of these new bands that I hear recently really have a lot of talent and creativity and we are all the better for it.

The bass guitar is almost implausible, it's such an easy instrument to pick up and make great sounds with and yet it is no minimal instrument by a long shot because it is usually the foundation of any song. It's like beatboxing or humming, everyone can do it, the first time you pick up a bass you start coming up with nifty little melodies. Obviously like any instrument you have to master it to use it professionally and finger dexterity becomes a must so I don't want to take away from bass players, but it really is a very simple instrument to pick up and play. I'm a guitarist, but I'm never without at least one bass because they are just immense fun to fuck around with and you can lose hours coming up with great rhythms.
