The relationship breakdown between Bumseok and Suho was so bad, but so well written. Suho didn't mean him ill at all, but Bumseok couldn't see that he was not looking down on him and was treating him the same as Sieun (i.e. not wanting either of them to cross that excessive violence line), so he saw it as Suho asserting dominance and using him (letting Bumseok buy them all drinks, but not following him back and so on). And on top of that he resented Suho for being strong, outgoing, likeable, etc. Everything he isn't. Sieun didn't seem threatening to him in the same way because he had been targeted before too and because Sieun is content to let the cheerful extraverted Suho take the lead.

He's traumatized, pure and simple. Powerless and lonely, abused by his father, with no meaningful relationships because he's adopted, so even his family isn't there for him. He's an accessory to his father, like watches Bumseok stole, except even less valuable and more of a liability at this point. He can't escape it, thus he becomes a victim of his own insecurities.

I think the addition of the girl in their group dynamic worried Beomseok, because when it was just the three of them, Suho is extroverted and Sieun is EXTREMELY introverted, so Beomseok was comfortably in the middle and maybe acted a little more extroverted compared to Sieun. But with the introduction of the girl, she's extroverted as well! So she takes up a lot of space and gets along well with Suho. And despite being introverted and quite, Sieun is more okay with being alone than Beomseok (who's pretty lonely) also Sieun is pretty intriguing/interesting. So he's fine with not saying much, and the girl and Suho still pay attention to him if he doesn't. Suho does pay attention to Beomseok, but the girl doesn't know him (and he doesn't make an effort to try to know her) so that probably makes Beomseok feel left out. And Sieun cares for him as well, but he's really quiet and doesn't really display affection, so Beomseok might not notice it.

Glasses guy’s problem seems to be that he wants a lot of power and visible appreciation and that’s hard to do when he’s the “weak little brother” of the group, which is why he ends up preferring the enabling opportunists

And the type of power that's available to him is something that drives him to be/act even worse - he can't have the power that he craves, the kind that Suho has because of his strong physicality and strong character, so he resents Suho for it and also resents himself. But he CAN have the power that his dad has - and it's money and reputation and putting down those that are weaker than you, hitting someone who can't fight back - and of course once he ends up relying on that, he recognizes how low and despicable it is and it only makes him more frustrated and resentful. He wants something real, affection and respect and recognition, but he's only able to elevate himself with his dad's money, so he still feels weak.

Bum Seok is a really tragic character tbh, people hate him while completely overlooking the dad and the bullies who turned him into that monster. How can you expect him to act reasonable when he was an orphan bought for publicity, while being regularly abused at home and treated as trash/lesser compared to the Assemblyman's other kids? And even School wasn't/isn't an escape for him.

I think the point of this story is that every person is responsible for their actions and they all have their hubris. I don't want to go into spoilery territory (even if Roshi and Sheera already finished the show, there might be others who haven't), but that includes Sieun and Suho too, they have their blind spots and what ends up happening happens in part because of their choices and poor communication. Back to Bumseok, I don't agree with the claim that he was "turned into a monster" by other people. He suffered abuse that he 100% didn't deserve and you can understand why it shaped his character the way it did, but what he chose to internalize and his desires and values and neuroses (the desire to be recognized, to have power in social situations, the idea that someone who's stronger is looking down on him because he's physically weaker, paranoia, not being able to recognize affection) - all of these things are his own. Yes, he is the way he is because of the abuse he suffered, but it even shows that other people respond differently in the same situation, so while we can emphatize with Bumseok, understanding someone doesn't mean absolving them of responsibility for their actions or denying their agency. It's not that he wasn't "reasonable", it's that he chose the worst side of himself and let himself act like a bully and a coward.

I can SAFELY say i NEVER loved him. I've been wary of him since the drugging incident and while i saw he was trying to make up for it, he was still acting shady. So turning on "hate mode" for bum was really easy. I was a fan of suho like everyone else, just not as hardcore. But i was ALWAYS on sieun's side being an introverted bookworm myself.

You can see/feel that interaction going on inside bum's head every now and then, VERY briefly. So like you said, he does have a lot going on fueling the conflict and turmoil, but both suho and sieun have been dealt bad hands in life too and look at them. After this episode, i wash my hands of bum COMPLETELY!

The angel and devil scenario is really familiar and I can see Bum Seok actually struggling to choose, but ending up taking the easy and reckless way, just because it would spare him from putting on effort to better himself, from working things in the right way and because I can imagine he will want everything to go his way, uncaring for what happens to others. Especially since now he's in his "I suffered so I have the right to be angry and to vent it on others or on other things" mode. I don't think at this point Bum Seok would feel guilty if he does something wrong, because he's driven by anger, jealousy and desire of feeling powerful and in control of things/situations, since he was never in control of his life and always felt like he was looked down upon by people.

I really appreciate the side by side discussion between the two of you at the end over Bumseok bcz his character is definitely more than just “oh, all that over an instagram follow?!??” and i hate when that’s what people make it out to be. On one hand, you can understand why Bumseok is frustrated; when Suho stopped Sieun in EP2, it wasn’t till after he hit the bully a good couple of times w/ the book and asserted his dominance, however, Suho didn’t even give Bumseok the CHANCE to stand up for himself and in the end that could’ve gotten him beaten up even worse if the other bullies hadnt appeared. Then, on top of that, he keeps putting his arm around him even after he told him multiple times not to and while to yall it might seem like he’s just throwing a fit, the whole argument he had w/ suho affirms the fact that it’s bcz he’s reminded of how his past bullies put their arms around him and order him around pretending to be friendly (youngbin also did this to Sieun and Bumseok at the vending machine in EP1). On the other hand, you can tell that Suho and Sieun are trying their best to help Bumseok out and it’s not their fault that he doesn’t feel confident enough in their friendship to explain his problems, this is the first time hes ever had proper friends.

It's crazy how relatable that is. Not talking about Bumseok, but for every person, especially at school. Feeling left out and paying attention to the most insignificant things, that could be that way for someone else, but are really important for you. I don't think a guy like Suho meant anything bad not following him back, at least that's how I see that, but in Bum Seok's perspective is a sign that Suho doesn't care about him and doesn't regard him as a friend. Bum Seok is really a time bomb ready to explode at any moment.

It's not hard at all. It doesn't matter how evil a person in the future becomes, it doesn't mean they deserved all the things they went through in the past and can feel sorry and empathize with their pasts. Though in this case, it is even more tragic. If Bum was the MC, most people wouldn't be as hard towards him, especially if he was an older man with a deeper voice. Bum is nowhere near as bad as Walter White or as the Joker, but they don't get as much hate.

ok so to explain the situation with Bum Seok- when he was laying on the bed on Instagram checking out the photos, he was mad because he followed Su Ho and he didn't follow him back or respond to his follow, but that girl that they just met that was with that other crew was immediately followed on Instagram by su ho, and so he became mad and jealous. But it seems like ya'll kinda figured it out. He felt like an outcast and a loser. Also those guys that were looking for bum soek, was former bullies from his old school that he transferred from if memory serves me correct. Also- I thought bum soek was initially gay or in love with su ho, but the love wasn't recipricated and su ho was straight, and bum seok, knew he could never tell su ho how he felt because it would ruin their friendship, but I think he was just a loner and never felt accepted until he was in their group, but still felt like he was being treated like crap or left out by su ho. Just my thoughts.

i haven't seen the full episode but did the girl YoungYi invite herself to their get-together or did Suho or Sieun invite her?
