It's great that you picked up on the characteristics of each element. It's so fun because the more you think about it, you see examples of it in the cultures. Like Airbenders being nomadic, Earthbenders having the most impressive fortifications. Firebenders being colonial (fire spreads). I could list more but it would get into spoilers I've been watching this show for 20 years and I want to say each time I rewatch I pick up on something I didn't notice before. The level of detail that these creators put into the show is insane

I love how you are noticing how different the fighting styles of the elements are! Yes, airbending is very defensive and evasive, waterbending is flowy and push/pull focused, Earthbending is solid and patient, firebending is quick and aggressive. I love how distinct these bending styles are animated, to the point that you can correctly draw these conclusions in episode 5, when it only gets explained in a later season. That's what strong storytelling looks like!

Sokka literally had the misogyny beaten out of him and he became an infinately better character because of it. Too bad the live action version on Netflix didn't get the memo
@ItsStrayy9 күн бұрын
I agree, the live action destroyed the character development Sokka went through in the show.
@patrickcromwell75549 күн бұрын
They LITERALLY COULDN'T have Sokka be sexist in the Live-Action. You DO know today's social climate right??? If so, you'd KNOW that the show would have gotten extreme backlash from feminist activists. They played it safe; and instead of making him sexist, they simply made him arrogant and condescending. Also the Live-Action was barely half the episodes. Shit like Sokka's sexism would take up too much time to resolve. Hell they introduced Jett. Way to many episodes early.

If you want to imprison a bunch of earthbenders, putting them on a metal ship in the middle of the ocean is USUALLY a good way to do it. But I wonder what would have happened if certain events in future episodes had happened first. (You all know what I'm talking about)
@brianalambert11927 күн бұрын
I think the magic system in this world is so nicely developed that it's very intuitive; they don't need to explain too much From the first episode we get that there are different nations embodying the different elements. So we can assume culture is based on the element. Then we get "Only the Avatar can master all four elements". So we immediately know that only one person can do that, and infer that everyone else has one element. We learn that Katara can do this but her brother can't. Meaning it's most likely something you're born with as opposed to something that anyone can learn and that not everyone is born with it, even siblings. Sokka says "If I had weird powers I'd keep my weirdnesss to myself" indicating that in the South Pole at least, it's not a very common power (at least anymore).We learn that Katara waterbends without realizing and the water sometimes goes in directions she didn't intend because she gets the moves wrong. So we know it's heavily movement based, it can be affected by your emotions, and it's something that takes practice to do well, so the ability to move the element is something you're born with but you have to train to learn how to move it the way you want. We see the movements of the waterbender, the airbender, and the firebender, which visually demonstrates that each bending style uses different kinds of moves. We see that Katara takes water and can freeze it, indicating that the state of the element isn't important as long as the underlying composition is the element. Later in these episodes we see that Earthbenders are kept on metal prisons out at sea, so that indicates that you need proximity to your element in order to bend it; they can't just pull the Earth up from the bottom of the ocean. This is actually where I get really annoyed with M Night Shyamalan for his changes to the firebending system in the Last Airbender movie "Well it doesn't makes sense that Firebenders can make their own element when everyone else can't." Why? Fire is the only element of the four that is actively created and destroyed because it's the only element that depends on other factors in order to come into being and sustain itself (oxygen, fuel, spark). I flick a lighter, there's fire, I turn it off there's not. If there were any element that should be able to do this, it's fire? Even Iroh explained how it works "The breath becomes energy in the body, the energy extends past your limbs and becomes fire". So Firebenders in effect have the fuel, they breath in oxygen, and then their bending sparks the fire WHAT ISN'T MAKING SENSE!!!!

There has to be some sort of crowd funding or government stipend for cabbage reimbursement for the unfair treatment in the cabbage industry. The cabbage financial deficit, and labor abuses has been tragically ignored for decades. I personally thank Avatar for being brave enough to bring light to this important issue.
