A lot of people (myself included) get so caught up in the holy trilogy of FF4/FF6/FFX (substitute 9 for X as needed) that we forget what a nice little game this was! Sometimes the classics are the way to go. Just look at Super Beard Bros. The Last Guardian gets maybe 1/5 of the views that Megaman X does, and how many MMX playthroughs are out there? Just gotta go with what works for you, and this game definitely suits you well!

13's one of my favorites in the series, right on up there with 5, 6, and 9, although the existence of forced sequels to a game that already had a completely concluded story kind of ruined it for me. Haven't played 15 yet though because I don't own a console it's on.

26:55 is my favorite moment here. I can honestly picture that epic moment in my head. Joof rising from his weakened state, firing off a massive devastating fire spell to destroy all the scum enemies threatening the rest of the party, before returning to his bundle and saying: "I'm sorry. That's the last of my power, the rest is up to you guys."

If you can, I'd say to play the PS1 version. It has much prettier spritework and music, and fixes bugs like Temper not working, while not reducing the game's difficulty to be laughable like the GBA/PSP games.

Jared, the trendy stuff may have it's place, but as a viewer, it's more enjoyable to watch people play the games that they love. I find that for me, this is a universal constant, no matter who I am watching. The Beard Bros. playing Megaman X is one of my favorite series because of how much Jirard likes that game. Keep playing what you love.

3 years late on this comment. A huge part of why I enjoy this channel and you as a youtuber is that you play things you want to. That's a complaint I've heard quite a bit, but I remember really enjoying it. Everything he's shown seems very similar to what I saw in the GBA version, other than the magic system (which i think the GBA one had MP), so I don't really get the criticism. However, it's been a few years, so I may just not remember it very well. Although, I do wonder, what would fans of the old NES version (like yourself) think of a remaster/remake with the same mechanics and difficulty, but with some modern conveniences (sprites, sound, better menus, no glitches, etc)?

I came here to support Jared trying to make his comeback after putting forth all of his evidence, and I'm staying because the overwhealming and genuine passion of Jared in this playthrough is having a very infectious effect on me, and helping me cope with my depression. And I've almost never even touched a Final Fantasy game. Thank you for putting content out there that's so genuinely positive. I hope his career recovers to the point that he can get back to making this kind of stuff.

I don't want to distract from Jared at all, but as it is quite the undertaking to play all the FF games in order, it wouldn't surprise me if that situation didn't come to pass. If you're interested in seeing someone's (very high quality) coverage of Final Fantasy games up to XIII so far, including remakes where extra coverage is warranted, I do suggest HCBailly. He's not technically a big youtuber, but he puts the effort into his videos analogous to larger content creators.

6 year old video, but I wanted to comment on something Jared said. He mentioned he would run into the marsh Cave, grab what treasures he could and then exit and heal and come back. This is actually the design philosophy from the devs. You ARE meant to delve in for the treasures, then come out, heal, and then make a beeline for the boss. (also, Hi Jared, it's me, Jared)

The games I like seeing on this channel are the ones that you enjoy the most. There is am authenticity to you when you play those games that's downright infectious. This series, the fire red nuzlocke and the DOS DnD game have been my favorites so far. The games that are forced because you think that's what people want to see are the ones that I'm least interested in. Any Five Nights game for example. I watch you because you are authentic and likable, and not overly dramatic or screaming in the mic in an attempt to be entertaining. As much as I love James Rolfe, you are, in my opinion, the best gaming youtuber. Thanks for all the entertainment Jared.

It's why I enjoy watching this one in particular. Because you are showing just how much you love this game and trying to share it with everyone who's willing to watch. It's very refreshing. Thank you for these videos, Jared. I'm a long time fan of yours and while I enjoy classic Final Fantasy, I really like hearing your insight to a series that obviously means so much to you. I've never played the original version of this game, only the PSP and GBA remakes, but I plan on buying it through the Wii Shop later today because of you. I've always found grinding rather relaxing, when it's a simple battle system of course, so this has just been a really chill, relaxing series to watch. Keep playing the games you enjoy and have a personal connection with, friend. That's what made your reviews of Hydlide and Two Worlds special and unique when all the other reviewers on KZbin (no disrespect to them) just review bad games because it's their job. Thank you and God bless.

With regards to support for you playing this game... I'm in the same boat as you, where this was what I grew up on. It wasn't even my game, it was my dad's. When you play a game that you enjoy, your enthusiasm for it comes through and is interesting to experience. Specifically with Final Fantasy I, with its strong roots in early d&d you have two different things that you love (rpg's and d&d) coming together in a way that lets you in a way experience both at the same time. As many of us did in the old NES/early PC days, you are making your own narrative with the game and it's a fun journey. When it comes to creating things we tend to be most passionate about the things we want to make not the things others want us to make. While the later is sometimes unavoidable (you have to pay your rent) as long as you are still having fun with making things the process is worth it. Have fun Jared.

I'm enjoying this playthrough so very much and I don't even fully know why since I don't have nostalgia for this game and although I like them I'm not like.. a serious Final Fantasy fan. I think I just honestly enjoy both your input, comments, flourish and passion for the game, ProJared. It makes it incredibly enjoyable and I look forward to updates to this series the whole time! (I was so sad over the weekend without updates XD) I hope we can get a full playthrough for this! I'm 100% behind this!

Just discovered your channel through this playthrough, watching it alongside playing the pixel remaster. Definitely gonna watch more of your stuff. I love how much fun you have, how genuine you are and how much you know about the game. Thanks for doing it!

I hope my message was one of the ones you read. Because I really meant what I said about enjoying every factor you've done so far. It's nice to have something to watch to get the days to pass.

Jared, you're the only youtube gameplay channel that I will watch every video regardless of what you play. I thoroughly enjoy your style and your interests also happen to intersect with mine, which makes watching your videos a joy. I don't always agree with your views or opinions, but you've made me think way more than a lot of other youtube channels, so Thank you!! PS, FF1 is awesome and you're awesome for playing it!

On a more personal note, this series inspired me a bit. I'm in the middle of writing a novel, and this game has that sense of adventure that I wanted to write for a long time. Your LP came at a right time for me, so I say keep it up. You aren't the trend guy, that's not why I subbed to you. Play your favorite games, show us a world that you like, and I'll be a satisfied subscriber.

Man, that short intro made me emotional, haha. I agree and I think way too many youtubers now are very much constantly pressured into playing the new, hyped games. Kudos to you also for wanting to do your own thing in the first place!

I'm enjoying this LP so much. Seeing Jared get excited to play this game is something that makes this so much more entertaining. Keep doing you, dude, we'll be here. Also, I just wanted to say I've been watching videos on this channel for so long that I'm now waving back at the end of the videos.

It's weird how enthralled I am with this series from you. It should be boring to watch but I love watching you play this! Thank you for continuing the series, really hope you finish it. I've never had the patience to sit through this game myself. Again, keep it up, I look forward to these every day!

Sooo happy for this... All people play now are the latest brand new games and I don't want to spoil them all for me! I started watching for retro games and that's what'll keep me here!

This is my favorite NES game. Like you, this was actually the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. I love watching this play through.

To me, it's much more enjoyable to watch you play a game that you love so much. It's really fun to hear your old stories and nostalgia about Final Fantasy, and it makes me really want to play it too now. I agree that sometimes you don't want to play the new and trendy games, and just play something you want to. And I'm really enjoying it.

I really like the passion you have for this game as you play it. I'd much rather watch you play something you are passionate about then watch you play something you feel obligated to play through

Jared I think I'm going to be mostly proved correct in saying we love you, just being you and these kind of play through videos are a great way of appreciating your actual personality and your gaming history a little more. Keep up the great work man :D Also as a strange form of side note what happened to your Worst Farther Ever series, that play through of Heavy Rain had me and everyone else I showed it to in stitches.

Jared. I don't watch you because you're like everybody else. I watch you because you remind me a bit of myself, and because you enjoy older games I have always enjoyed. Just do what you want man, stop being so worried about how many people show up to give it a watch. Hell, I still miss you playing FFT.
