basically what i've learned from Jared is that the original final fantasy game was full of horrible glitches which everything does nothing. Thief does nothing. Were-sword does nothing, INT does nothing. multiple spells do nothing. . but it's fun as hell.
@gurvmlk
@gurvmlk 3 жыл бұрын
Fortunately, I imagine most people were like me back in the day and had no idea of those glitches. I still remember knowing that spells had a range of damage instead of growing stronger with intelligence, so I had it in my head that higher intelligence improved the odds of scoring a stronger hit. But that's why you either patch the game, or play the Playstation version for an almost original experience but fixed (although I personally hate how overpowered the improved inventory system feels).

The Thief cosplay fits you, and I would have recognized it as Final Fantasy 1 cosplay. My go to character in the original was the Red Mage, mainly because it was a mage that could use a sword. I loved LoTR, in it Gandalf uses a sword frequently but DnD systems typically forces magic users to using simple weapons.
@SolarFlairIsBestPony
@SolarFlairIsBestPony 7 жыл бұрын
Tabletop systems always go all wonky all over the place. In some it's definitely no wizards with swords and such. But in, say, current D&D there's definitely ways to give wizards different hitting tools. Like by being an elf or a dwarf (for hammers and axes).
@Billaxle
@Billaxle 7 жыл бұрын
Othaur My go to class is Red Mage or whatever variation a game calls it. Highly skilled jack of all trades, master of none. To me, the versatility is worth the trade-off.
@Terashi
@Terashi 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know about other tabletops, but in DnD 3.5e, you can take feats to give yourself proficiency in weapons and armor that your class doesn't provide. It's not a good idea, considering how magic works, but the game doesn't outright say "No, you have to focus on spellcasting," either. Though to be honest, if you really want a sword-wielding spellcaster, the Elder Scrolls series has you covered.
@Othaur
@Othaur 7 жыл бұрын
TerashiOfSnagem Oh I love the Elder Scrolls, but back in the early 90s mages were restricted to not using swords. Yes, DnD has feats that allows for sword useage as a mage or wizard but it weakens the classes significantly if you aren't using it for say metamagic feata and what not. Later iterations of DnD have specialized classes like battlemage and what not that does allow for a combat spell casting class but during this era it didn't exist per se. There was the bard class, but a bard is not a mage.
@SolarFlairIsBestPony
@SolarFlairIsBestPony 7 жыл бұрын
There's plenty of ways to do a sword wielding spellcaster in D&D if you go about it the right ways, even from older editions. They even have a special term for it . A 'gish'.
