Just to chime in, yes, I am 100% enjoying this series. I've played Final Fantasy before, but I didn't grow up with it (I actually never played it until after FF7 had come out; I mostly played platformers as a kid), so seeing someone who is not only competent and capable at it but also loves it dearly is really enjoyable. I felt the same way about the Pool of Radiance playthrough (as a side note, I'd love to see more AD&D games...). Real, genuine enthusiasm comes through in videos like these, and it makes the audience excited, even when they have little experience with the subject matter. In unrelated news, I never knew about the peninsula of power. I always ground for the gold to pay the exorbitant prices in Elfland on Ogres and GrOgres, which was unfulfilling, took forever, and is responsible for, like, 80% of my aborted playthroughs of this game. I regard pretty much everything after the Marsh Cave as an entirely different game (one that I find much more enjoyable).

Not gonna make a whole other comment just to say the same thing, but yeah experiencing the game through someone who is so passionate is completely enjoyable.

It's always interesting to hear about the games people grew up with and how they shaped their preferences growing up. I played a lot of action/adventure and watched/played a lot of Necromunda and Shadowrun since I grew up in walking distance of a Games Workshop. The odd thing is I could calculate saving throws but the concept of issuing commands to party members in a video game felt foreign. The first JRPG I ever played or beat was FF7 as well which I didn't start getting into until it was the last PS1 game I had gotten that Christmas that I didn't complete. Now it's still one of my favorite titles. (Tactics is my #1) Thanks to Projared and Eltimar, I've gone back and tried out stuff I missed out on and wondering how it would've shaped my tastes in games if I played X instead of Y growing up.
@KamisamanoOtaku7 жыл бұрын
I really am enjoying this as well, and I think I knew of the peninsula of power, but either didn't know the exact location, or was too scared to use it, or did and can't remember (s'been like 20 years XD). I love the crazy power leveling Jared has been doing. I think I might enjoy him focusing on that for another episode so that he can walk through the Marsh Cave. I remember being all "99 Heal and 99 Antidote before I go in!" though I usually gave up and went with more like 10 to 20 of each. Alternating between real gameplay and power leveling seems like the best fit; I don't think Jared or ourselves will enjoy him taking crazy risks if it forces him to replay large sections of stuff like the Marsh Cave. XD

@Xifihas Hahah doesn't this actually make the game a ton easier?
@jackohmsford7 жыл бұрын
I think the Tyro is about 500 HP if memory serves me. Basically boss level for this stage of the game. I will say it is quite rare to see one at the Peninsula of Power (almost never see them there myself). Edit: About getting money from monsters - I always just thought of it as a bounty you collected for defeating them, not necessarily money they had in their stomachs or something.
@Nekufan10000007 жыл бұрын
It would be great for a game to explore that possibility though. Imagine people who make a living following dangerous monsters around and sifting through their literal shit for gold coins and stuff from adventurers they ate.
@jackohmsford7 жыл бұрын
It would certainly be an eye opening experience!
@Other_Kev7 жыл бұрын
I always figured that the gold you get from monsters is the value of their furs, bones, claws, and such. So after battle, the party cuts them up and sells it all for gold upon returning to town. The tougher monsters are naturally worth more gold because there's less people brave enough to hunt them, so their parts are more rare. That's actually how making money works in FF12, which I thought was cool.
@jackohmsford7 жыл бұрын
Been a long time since I played FF12, so I forgot about that bit myself. However, the stronger monsters are not always worth more - that is part of the reason I felt it was more of a bounty than resources collected - since tougher monsters tend to be away from people and would have less reason to be sought out.
@jackohmsford7 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that game, admittedly. If I get a chance, I may check it out, though it may take me a while. I already have such a backlog of games that I am going through - it's what I get for collecting faster than I am completing!
@IbunWest7 жыл бұрын
Not that it really matters all that much; but the copper bracelet gave Jerd an extra 7% evasion while having the same amount of protection. So it was still better than the wooden armor.
