Hi rhys love the videos very informative , I just started fly fishing and the two venues I fish are 7/ 9 feet deep and 7/ 12 feet deep.What length of leader should I use. I've been using 12ft of 8lb maxima ultra green with a static bung at the end of the loop on the fly line and and single yellow wotit( with a bit of success). I've just got some of the fario adjustable ones. Could you recommend a setup. Also should I use two flys with the bung.

Great video and very helpful. This video has been my reference point for trying out fishing the bung. I have certainly found it to be successful as well, albeit my hook up to landing rate is terrible. I reckon I land one fish for every five or six I hook. Do you have any views on what I might be doing wrong?

Hi Rhys, I normally coarse fish but have been learning more about fly fishing recently, we went up to Clywedog on Friday before the firebreak lock down and I wish I had watched your videos before I went, definitely would have caught more! Any way, what knots do you use to tie on the bung, I assume it is directly tied onto the leader? Keep up the videos, you are going to go far!

Hi Rhys, very informative videos mate, can you tell me if that's the Cortland 444 SL line? Also any advice on rod choice, I have a Greys GRXI + #8 9' which is around 10 years old I think and mostly fish reservoirs such as kielder, fontburn and grassholme, is it worth investing in a new rod?
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s the one Lisa. In terms of rods, there’s a big range out there at the moment and budget/style of rod will be the biggest deciding factor as well as availability. Go with your current greys rod and see how it fare’s. I don’t believe the rod makes a massive different personally, the fly line and leader choice are far more important in my view 👍

Hi Rhys, I was just wondering what the best AFTMs for the lines you mentioned would be for the homemade yarn bung and also what size ranges of the 3 types of flies you mentioned. It's just for standard P&T rainbow fishing. Thanks bud.
@RhysFishes

I mainly fish 6/7wts and the flies are 8/10/12's. For a yarn bung you can go lighter by choice as your not trying to throw around a lump of foam 👍

The bung with the rubber tube insert. The ones I have say to pull the rubber tight, ie stretch it and then slide the line in behind. Then rotate so the line is opposite the slit. they don't say to run the line through the rubber tube

@RhysFishes

Both blob and egg are equally effective. Colour very much depends on the venue/water clarity and conditions so its good to have a varied range in the box 🎣

less wind is definitely a help on the bung but its success is in how flexible it is. You could fish it 365 a year with different flies and catch! Time of day doesn't really matter.

Hi Ryhs I have not long got into the bung and have found it can produce fish. My question to you is how you would fish in chocolate colour water which my local water gets a lots from a small burn that runs into it . I have tryed using the bung in this coloured water without success. But on clearer water I always have some kind of sport when using the bung . So if you could maybe let me know what would work for you in times like that ? Thanks K Brogan

Hi Rhys, any chance you could do a video on how to tie a sliding bung rig. It's easy to change depth with a sliding indicator but if using a tied bung like the Fario, it's very hard to change depths. Any ideas? I think it would be a popular video.

Rhys Fishes thanks for coming back to me, I’m aware of the different indicators you can get but I’m talking about something with a hook in it. I’ve had so many hits on the clip on type indicators that I’ve started fishing hooked versions (like the fario), but these are all eyed and need tying on to withstand the fight of a fish. I’d like to fish a fario with an egg underneath but be able to easily alter the depth?

Hi Rhys. I find that when I cast with a bung the bung wants to arrive on the surface before the fly. Any tips or is this to be expected?
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes Жыл бұрын
Usually means 1 of two things. The bung is larger/ heavier than the fly itself which means that the fly follows the bung as oppose to the bung and fly travelling in tandem together. Or 2) the leader is too short between the bung and the fly. I’d say it’s likely more to be 1) thought. Tightlines 🎣

Yes Patrick, in winter you'd fish the nasty stuff (blobs/eggs etc..) and in Spring Summer, use buzzers. The set up doesn't change. Only the flies. thanks for watching!

The drug is in the tug. Although it takes more expertise and maybe equipment, nothing beats watching a line tightening, a dry being taken or a bung sliding under.

Can I ask your preferred retrieve using the bung method. What you used to catch these fish. Also you showed the flies you utilised here below the bung but in what order were they? Was the blob on the point then the worm then the egg and then the bung? Also what level are you fishing the blob off the bottom? A lot of questions I know 😂. Just want to learn and get better at fishing 😁🎣 Loved the video
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Graeme. I only ever fish 1 fly under the bung, especially when it comes to eggs/blobs/squirmies. The waters i fish are heavily pressured so 2 flies under a bung is too much unless its buzzers! The retrieve is static. The instant you begin moving the bung its success falls significantly. Depth is very dependant on the day - i fish anywhere 1ft to 5ft. Its just a case of playing around to see. They may be at 1ft in the morning but drop down to 5ft once the sun is up etc...

Bonjour, what length of leader would one use when fishing like this. Adios. Eggsalant video :-)
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 жыл бұрын
Anything really. Think of it like this - 6ft to the first fly(bung) and then the remaining length will depend on where the fish are feeding. I.e if they're feeding 2ft down your total leader length would be just 8ft. If they're feeding 12 ft down then you may only need 3/4ft from the bung to the fly line, followed by 12ft to the fly = 16ft leader 👍
