It's way more about messing with the ex-wife than it is about the money, and also WAAAAY more about messing with the ex-wife than about what is best for the kids. If he was concerned about money, he wouldn't be spending any of it on a live-in nanny. And if he really wanted what is best for the kids, he would automatically call mom when he was going to be out of town and ask her to take them for those extra days, and recognize that the 50-50 situation that he agreed to it doesn't actually work because he can't be a parent 50% of the time .

While I'm glad that the girlfriend and nanny are two different people, his insistence on traveling this much means that the other parent has a super valid issue about wanting the kids under her supervision rather than under the eye of who are basically strangers for long periods. This after in the first letter, OP admitted he did not think she was a bad mother. A huge part of custody to me is that the parent in question is actually parenting during that time. It makes no sense to give custody time during times the parent is GONE.

He did not want 50/50 custody. He just did not want to pay the ex child support. He’s “worried” she’ll use his absences to change custody arrangement he should have never made. I’ve seen men do this often (insist on 50/50 when they have a job that does not allow them to actually have their kids 50/50) to get out of paying child support. I once had a client whose ex was moving two states away try to get 50/50 custody in their divorce. 🙄

Yes, my friend's ex tried that mess until the children complained. Their father was never on time, clothes were never organized for the week, meals were a disaster and children received no help with homework. She took her children back until Thursday. The ex got them on Fri thru Sun. That gave him the whole weekend to organize for the next week. The judge/lawyers told him to take it or leave it. He complained about losing his free time on the weekends. And!???😂😂😂

I actually do this right now during the school year per my ex husband’s request. I thought it was a pain, as did the kids, until we went to week on/week off for the summer. Every time I got my kids back it took most of the week to get them back on a structured sleep/life schedule. So even though it is a pain, the 2-2-5-5 was actually better for the kids. But I have a neurospicy household so that probably has a lot to do with it.

I’ve been on a 2-2-5-5 for 5 years. It’s great for younger kids, because week on/week off is too long for little kids to not see a parent. Also it allows our kids to do more extracurricular activities because I always have mon/tues and he always has wed/thurs. It’s easier to schedule things. We do week on/week off during the summer because it’s easier to schedule childcare and vacations that way, but it’s not my favorite.. I really miss my kids when I don’t see them for 7 days.

I want to make clear that I don’t condone staying after “f*ck up”. But it seems like there are plenty of women who think it’s a good idea to stay for various reasons. So, thought about it objectively. If I am expected to stay after infidelity, these things need to happen 1. Separate bedrooms, no chance of s3x in the foreseeable future 2. Marriage is open on the both ends 3. The entire marital asset is transferred to my name only 4. Cooking and cleaning was never my thing, now they are his thing. Hope these expand your horizon. 😉

I do a 2-2-5-5 schedule and we both occasionally travel for work. When that happens, my ex and I switch days so that we do not miss on any of our parenting time. BECAUSE PARENTS WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH THEIR KIDS, especially when you only get 50% of their time in the first place!! If he really wanted to be a 50/50 dad, he would change jobs, limit his traveling, or ask his ex to switch days when he’s traveling. He’s going about this the hardest possible way - which prioritizes his income over his kids.

2-2-5 is typically used when the kids are very young, because 7 days away from one parent can be difficult (ex: if they're still breastfeeding). Unless the judge believes that the mother is unsafe or unfit, there is absolutely no way they will let the guy do first right of refusal to whoever he deems is most convenient for HIM. You bet she's keeping track of this; if she ends up watching the kids more than 50% of the time consistently, then the custody and child support arrangement should be modified to reflect the reality of the situation (that HE is causing). Also, what does the mother's dating life have to do with this? NOTHING. His priorities are out of order, he should find an acceptable schedule with his job that fits the custody arrangement or get a different job.

Like my aunt told me, the only reason she stayed with her husband for so long was because of how society shames single or divorced women in our country. No matter what he does (even DV), if you leave, "it's because you can't keep a man." It's always her fault the marriage failed even though he was physically, verbally, and financially abusive. She needs to see a lawyer, she is entitled to child support and half of the husbands superannuation because she didnt work for 19 years, marital assets 50% and 50% custody of her kids, that's how it works down here unless contested. I'm talking from experience. She also can apply for disability pension from Centrelink to pull her through. Good luck to her! If he was smart he'd probably realize this, and that it might be more economical to just have reduced custody so that he doesn't have to pay for nannying and extra legal fees from fighting in court. Just pay the child support dude, you would have spent it on a nanny anyway, because you're never home to actually exercise "custody".

Yes, throwing the ball full speed at the window was in the past, but the shattered window of her broken trust is in the present and will continue to be until they both do the work to repair it. I hope 2nd story's kids are mostly raised because that husband's underlying worldview of doing something hurtful because he doesn't think there will be negative consequences to him is not something that needs to be passed on to the next generation. I really hope the nanny guy's ex wasn't keeping track for child support, but one of her friends saw his post and now she is. Time for a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Oh, I can't wait to hear an update to Sock Hole Mom's story. And I thought getting a detention for not wearing a belt with my school uniform khakis was bad/silly upon second thoughts... Dad from the first story sounds like he just wants to spite/hurt his ex because she dared to actually fight and get more than a paltry sum for child support. OP whose husband won't listen to her: taking bets on how long before we get an update where she's leaving him and moving far to start a whole new life.
