In most countries, you get four weeks paid vacation leave a year, plus 10 days paid sick leave. After 27 yrs he would also be entitled to paid long service - 9 weeks paid leave for every 10 yrs worked - so almost 27 weeks he would get.

Yes, he should have been rewarded with a raise or something monetary from the company. However, I believe he received his huge financial blessing because even though his gift bag wasn't a lot, he was very grateful for it. He’s humble, when I worked at MCD’s we wanted to show each other appreciation and even tho we didn’t make much we showed our appreciation on Christmas even if it was just $10 bucks. It’s the thought that counts but I’m glad he got a little more, and hope he was humble to share with his peers for their Sybil of gratitude.
