That's a great video! Thank you to bring me memories My wife and I we lived in this area until last year. I never see this burger restaurant before ! I'm so surprised it looks really good !

Thanks a lot karamazov! 😊 I think it would be so easy to pass by that restaurant without even knowing it's there, but if you end up back in Gangseo-gu definitely check it out! It's worth it just for the experience alone!

Thanks so much for your amazing portfolio of Korea "over the handlebars" and for sharing your lives. You have inspired us and we have booked a flight next year, bringing our bikes for a month on the trails. A request: would you consider making a video of what we might expect flying in and making our way to the trails. Best wishes

Thanks so much for the nice comment Stephen! 😊 That makes us feel so good that you will get to make it to Korea and check out the trails! You guys will have such an awesome time! This is a great video topic and I saved it for us to be able to make some day! In case we can't make it fast enough, basically: 1) After getting off the plane and picking up your bike and bags, build your bike and get things ready near the airport so you are in "cycle tour" mode. 2) You can't cycle across the bridge from Incheon Airport to Incheon, so get on the Airport Subway and get off at Cheongna International City Station. 3) Cycle from Cheongna International City Station to the first stamp booth near Ara Tower which is here: kko.to/mUYSu0Uu7 4) Buy a bike passport inside the Ara Tower at the vending machine and collect stamps along your cycling journey. It's so much more fun that we thought it would be to get the stamps! Hope that helps a bit and feel free to ask any follow up questions if you are curious!

Thanks so much fourcollar! 😊 I'm glad that we could show some little places hidden away in the alleyways of Korea! It was so cool going in there! We really wanted to interview the lady working there and almost film a documentary, but it was great just to experience it as a customer and enjoy the atmosphere! Hope you're healthy and happy!

just SEEING that last place brings back memories -- the plants, the vinyl, the wood panelling. I'd rather go to an old joint like that than Lotteria...!

Ahahah it's pretty cool eh Alex! 😁 Totally agree with you on that one! The homey atmosphere with an 아줌마 that has been making burgers for over 30 years was so awesome to see! Hope we can find some similar places in the middle of nowhere on our next bike trip or something!

Another great video. My trip is a week away and it's been great watching your restaurant videos to get a feel for different dishes I want to try, and perhaps a few I'm not quite ready for :-) It's also been really useful getting a better understanding of how different restaurants operate ... ordering from wall menus, from a touch screen at the door, and so on. And that burger really did look delicious. Thanks again.
@lostthenfound2 жыл бұрын
Hello northice thank you so much! 😊 You will have a great time trying out different restaurants here, and it might be hard but I strongly recommend going to places that are a bit out of your comfort zone (check what food they have first on Naver Maps though) and just see what happens! You will have some really good interactions / experiences with people, and it might feel extreme or adventurous but it'll be worth it!

Thanks so much Kamil Kamilo! 😊 Hope you have an amazing time in Gyeongju, and definitely check out the burger place as it's not too far outside of Seoul! It's worth it just for the experience! Looking at the pictures, I'm absolutely sure those burgers are better quality than the ones from back in the day. I came to Korea in 1996, and I'll never get the taste of those old burgers out of my head... Never... In a weird way, I'm curious to try one... I dunno... Nice video tho!

Hey Dave thanks so much! 😁 I think this lady was really passionate to be honest! She runs her shop so confidently, and she knows that she doesn't have to make it look fancy for people to come just because the burgers are so good! Ahaha I can't imagine what the burgers were like in 1996. I'm guessing they probably had some strawberry jam or yoghurt on them with a really processed patty or something! Really cool that you got to experience Korea back then though as it's changed so much!

The Burger Place With No Sign!!! I'm mapping that! Thank you guys for sharing Korea! Curious, was the crucifix on the wall irony or was the owner a Christian? I remember seeing only a couple of Christian churches scattered throughout Wonju 23l years ago. Keep uploading!!! ❤️
@lostthenfound2 жыл бұрын
Hey David thanks a lot! 😊 Definitely check the burger place out if you can! I'm sure it'll bring back memories of how Korea used to be! We didn't ask the owner about the crucifix but I'm guessing she was a Christian. To be honest I'm not too sure how to tell the churches apart but there are a lot of churches in Seoul (most of them with a red cross) and it looks like about 29% of Koreans are Christian these days.

Hi guys I don't know if you have already done a video about this subject, but I would be interested to learn how to make lasting and genuine friendships with koreans. I hope to move to korea in the future, and I'm sure that I will be able to make some expat friends but I also would like to become friends with some koreans. What are the struggles of foreigners making real korean friends? Do you have to meet them through your expat friends?, I understand that the language barrier is real, but say your korean is at and above topik 5 what else is a barrier to natural lasting relationships in korea?. Any tips to help the process from you and yujin would be appreciated. Maybe it could be a subject for a video?. Thanks guys, I always enjoy your down to earth content.
@lostthenfound2 жыл бұрын
Hello again ONCEbittenTWICEshy thanks a lot for the kind words! 😊 My (Matt) experience is that it changes so much from person to person here. A lot of the stuff you read online is that you can't make real relationships with Koreans, but if you put an effort to learn the language (you don't even have to be fluent) and try your best with the basic public manners, I would say it's not any more difficult than it would be in Canada to make friends. The most important thing is to meet people with similar interests as you. I think no matter how much you know about Korean culture or the language, you can't make friends with someone if you are completely different, and that's probably the main reason why people say it's hard to make friends here. One really big tip I can give is to stay true to yourself and your values and don't force yourself to be "more Korean" just to get closer to people. (I'm guilty of this for the first few years I lived here) Be honest to people and show them your true self while being open minded about their differences and values. It's totally okay to be different from people here, and nobody will expect you to do everything the same as them. If you just be yourself and do what feels right for you, you will be able to make some great friends! These are things we can definitely talk about in a video sometime too!
@ONCEbittenTWICEshyshyshy2 жыл бұрын
@@lostthenfound That totally makes sense, I guess once again I have been too caught up in the whole stigma of koreans not wanting to be friends with foreigners, before giving it some real thought and realising that obviously all koreans are individual and some will accept you, whereas some will always find you odd. I have a fairly unique personality even by western standards so who knows maybe I'll be a rock star in korea! 😅

@@ONCEbittenTWICEshyshyshy no worries at all! It's hard to know without actually living here too and that's really commonly written/said online. Go get out there and meet lots of people and enjoy it rock star!! 😎
