@@gothicrice8705 that would be nice, but realistically, that would increase the chance and risk of aspiration of stomach contents into the lungs, effectively killing him even faster. Same goes for pain killers (at therapeutic doses). IV Benzos alone wouldn't have been too bad of an idea tho, not to make him unconscious, but to relax him enough for his heart to stop struggling and most of all for his mental fortitude. But we weren't there, there most likely is a reason for why certain things were or weren't tried. Let's not be captain hindsights here.

Because a lot of people like obstacle courses, and caves like this is like a natural obstacle course? Getting to where you want would be the finish line. You've conquered the level, and then add that to your list of achievements. How dangerous the place is just adds to the difficulty, making it more appealing to the ones that are more experienced. That's my guess.

To answer the question of “how do you fuck up the directions?” Because the cave system is already disorienting when down inside it. It’s super dark and low down and the air is thick and wet. Plus you could only go in a single line. (Why anyone would find this cave fun bewilders me) There is a video of people actually going into this cave before it the incident and there is a passage that leads into the birth canal and the cork screw. However, the passage that leads into the canal looks smaller from the outside where as the passage to the dead-end was actually larger from the enterance. This uncharted area SHOULD have been blocked off with signs or something and it puzzles me why it wasn’t. But also this cave was said to be slippery, wet. The reason is was named “nutty putty” was because the walls of the cave were like wet putty, and when putty used to be named “nutty putty’. So it was warm and steamy and wet and had several incidents of children getting stuck in the same cork-screw area just as John had been in, but because they were smaller and lighter, they were able to be rescued. This could have been prevented if they had just taken effort to put in signs blocking off uncharted areas, but a lot of the spelunkers sadly had this individualism mentality ‘Everyman for himself’ thing. Which is just fucking stupid. Even if putting up signs didn’t stop people, at least then there would be no fault of negligence.

For some reason, this comment reminded me of this case of this girl who worked at Yellowstone National Park. One night her and her friends were up late so they ran back to the cars. She and two other guys decide to take a "short cut" (aka going off the path). The other group who didn't take the short cut make it to their cars, but they have no idea where the other 3 could've gone until they hear screams in the distance. Those three came across a pool where the other side was barely within reach, so they leap across and the ground crumbles beneath them and they fall in. You know how yellow stone has those acidic pools? It was in the middle of the night, so they thought it was a regular pool. The two guys survived and had 3rd degree burns. The girl unfortunately was completely submerged in the acid water and she ended up with 100% burns. They literally couldn't do anything. Literally no skin to graft. And how she was even alive for that long after...
@Vincisomething
@Vincisomething Жыл бұрын
It reminded me of that because of the judgement call and common sense thing. Like them going off a path and unknowingly leaping across a pool of acid. Their parents unsuccessfully tried to sue. There was also another story of a guy who got dissolved in acid also at YSNP.

Saying "how can you go left" doesn't properly capture cave maps. Some of the tunnels are up, down, sideways. there is no simple left and right in caving. The squiggles represent incline and decline and every room is an octagon. The birth canal was a downwar headfirst trip. Ed's push starts as an upward climb then arcs, then slopes downward after a long crawl. There is a video from this cave that exists in 5 parts where cavers show this passage and how easily it could be mistaken for the birth canal

Why would anyone willingly attempt to go through very tiny passageways that you could easily get stuck in? It’s common knowledge that earths plates move and at any time the rocks could shift a little or a lot. Knowing that, why would anyone risk their life to check out a small Rock tunnel. I’ve gone caving before, but caving where you go into a massive passageway with no danger of getting stuck ina tiny tunnel. Besides, unless the cave has genuinely impressive mineral formations or historical artifacts, why go in it?

Cave explorations must be sick... BUT... if you have to push yourself in and know that its hard to go trough, then its not something anyone should do... Yeah they can do it on their own risk, if there is a worthy reward at the end... if there is just a cave for you to turn around then it means its not worth even trying... I can fit nearly anywhere cuz im small and skinny but i would never attempt to go in there if I saw how tiny it is unless I knew that there is some ancient relic that is worth millions of dollarz... It aint worth to risk your own life just to have a little bit of fun...
