When I see vehicles like this, I always think, at some point, that was a brand new car that somebody absolutely adored. I think about all the memories that were made, the places she took her owners... Great video, Stu and props to you for digging through that jungle! You just never know what's in the bushes.

That is too far gone for the average person .Someone with extremely deep pockets and the time with a workshop could possibly save it. But what a great effort by yourself to reveal it from the undergrowth .Well done . Great video.

Looking at its Current Condition it’s only fit for spare parts as you say with the Cylinder off that engine it’s going to be toast being honest the body is going to be so rotten it’s a Spares only car but you should be able to buy it cheaply .. 16:20 16:20 it’s an 1981 vehicle I’ve checked so it’s 42 years old … but having being parked in Damp undergrowth since 1998 I’d of thought not only the Body but it’s chassis would be well rotted too …

Ffs Stokzey what are you up to now? I don’t know which is the biggest basket case you or Range Rover? The bloke should be paying you to get rid of it! The only useful part would be the gearbox but only because the diesels were easier on the drive train than the more powerful 3.5 4.0 and 4.6 engines. There’s better ones out there it’s just a case of finding one that can realistically be restored, you never know after this vid someone might get in touch. Might of been a better idea to wait till late summer take your kids up there to pick some blackberries. That said it was an interesting and entertaining video so please keep them coming.😊

Great content again! I love classic Range Rovers are too. Just unfortunate the RR is so rough as it’s one of the very early 1981 4 door versions which look as if it’s had a 2.4VM diesel transplanted at some time. This makes a first year of production 4 door version. I restored a 1984 4 door and wish I never sold it! On the plus side this one is relatively complete excepting the engine. It is saveable, but it just needs deep pockets 😂.
@ImStokze

Yep, I noticed the VM heads sat in the back. Not the best engine ever fitted to a Range Rover! I think they were first used around 1987/88 so definitely a conversion. I suppose it was better than the York diesel or Perkins many had fitted back in the day.. as always with Land Rover they’ve always left it too late with advancing and by the time the TDI engines were around sales had dropped because of the shit they’d been fitting like the VM and Turbo D 19j!! Customers had really had enough by that point. Such a shame the company was run by assholes which is still the case today.

I owned a classic RR in exactly that colour in the mid 90’s . I loved that car it was so comfortable and practical. The downside was it was a complete money pit , it almost bankrupt me . The build quality was appalling and the mpg was around 12 miles per gallon on red leaded petrol. Regrettably I think your example is beyond saving. Let her r.i.p

I thought the rubber tray on the top centre of the dash would mark this out as a 1983 model. This is indeed a 1981 car but maybe it had this feature fitted to it by a dealership in its early life, to modernise it. Previously it would have been just a grille.
