Great explore new sub here hello from down under (Australia) opal miner here so am always fascinated by abandoned mines.

Thank you! Opal mining looks fun, but a little crazier than the hardrock mines we have here.

Pretty extensive mine. Always fun when you run across miners graffiti. 1939 - 42, pre and post WWII. Interesting explore. Thank you!

Yeah this adit opens up a lot more of the mine we weren’t able to see before without a 300’ drop on rope. Headed back tomorrow to see how much more we can find. Thanks for watching

from around 19:30 to 20:00 you are looking around a giant clump of what looks like pyrite. Presumably without any definitive crystalline faces. Do you ever collect mineral samples while down in the mines?
@Off_Course_Explorations8 ай бұрын
I’ll have to take a better look around in there next time. I do grab some samples here and there, mostly stuff that catches my eye more so than what I think might have value.

Gotta love it! I hope this is where I think it is. BTW... I have some new caving ropes that need to get dirty.

Good job! I know a few collapsed adits and I always wonder is just sluff from the hillside or truly collapsed?
@Off_Course_Explorations8 ай бұрын
Sometimes it’s just stuff coming down the hillside that closes them up. You just have to really analyze the hillside to see what happened, and whether it’s safe to dig open.

@@Off_Course_Explorations Im going to use a long drill rod that threads together and do some testing.

That’s a good place to start, just make sure what’s above you is stable before you go crawling in.

I think those wooden barrel ruins you found held nails or rail spikes.

That makes sense.

Bring a kayak, or a small canoe,itll float in 6 inches of water!
@Off_Course_Explorations7 ай бұрын
You’d be hard pressed to squeeze a kayak into this one, and the next level down is flooded up past the ceiling. But believe me, there’s a couple of mines I’d like to do this in someday. Thanks for watching!
