Opel Commodore GS Coupe 1969

Our Opel Commodore is almost ready after one year of restauration.
My father bought this Opel Commodore GS Coupe new in 1969 at Hessing in De Bilt for NLG 13.000,- In 1978 this car went in the corner untill 2012. This family piece has only 69.000km and is not for sale.

In early 70s my dad had this. He changed many cars but dis the one i will never forget. How i wish he kept this for me!! Still fairly fast for today's standards. But most appealing is its design & solid feel❤👍👍

Very nice. My dad bought an A Commodore new in 1969 too. Before that he had three Rekords, the last one being a 68 model he bought less than a year earlier. His Opel dealer introduced him to the new Commodore when he had the '68 C Rekord to be serviced, and he instantly decided he wanted one. Also, the dealership had pressure to sell the new model, and the Rekord had a very good re-sell value due to very good reputation as a family car, so my dad got himself a good deal. It was a 2-door sedan though, with vinyl roof and golden exterior. Or golden brown, whatever you call it. He kept it for a long time and put a lot of kilometres to it. This was a time when Opel made truly great cars, too bad they lost their reputation in the shitty years of the 80's and 90's. I am a real car enthusiast myself, and one day I really do want to own a C Rekord or an A Commodore coupe. Beautiful cars.

A coupe man, a coupe! And a very beautiful one at that. When I was a kid I was already a fan of the GS, but after the Charles Bronson stunt in "Cold sweat", I just turned nuts. Mind you, my dad had an Alfa Romeo 1750, but the Commodore GS was such a cool car

Beautiful car...a credit to you. What gets me is how similar the Australian Holden Monaro of 1968/9 was so similar to this car in the basic body shape. I think the Holden and Opel engineers collaborated on many projects being that they were part of the GM family of companies.

Geweldig, leuk dat jullie dit met ons gedeeld hebben. Mijn vader had dezelfde Commodore GS Metallic Blauw, zwarte bekleding en open dak. Was altijd een genot om mee naar Zuid Frankrijk te rijden!

Nasci em 1971, meu pai (26 anos) comprou o primeiro opala dele em Dez 1972/ mod 1973, depois foi Opala até 1996, quando ele comprou um Omega. Tive um Opala (1988) e uma Caravan (1989). Então posso falar, você tem razão em parte, realmente os modelos que vieram para cá, com a frente do Chevy Nova e de outro lá que não lembro, eram mais bonitos. Entretanto, dá uma olhada no Opel Commodore 1972 em diante, os carros são muito bonitos, não deixam nada a desejar em relação aos BMWs da mesma época. Abçs

Sounds like oil starvation on top motor,readjust Valves,put a new Oilpump in it Very nice car and beautifully color I have a Friend in Germany who’s Brother owns a car like this in Cabrio or Convertible,one of only 3 made in Red

Could have solid tappets instead of hydraulic. When I rebuilt the engine in my Opel GT I used solid tappets and they have a noticeable tick at idle, with good oil pressure.

I owned a Rekord Sprint reg XYT 39H in metallic blue,from around 1978 to 1981.I was given the car by my dad who bought it from a mechanic at Elmsleigh Motors in Enfield,London.The car had covered 14,000 miles in eleven years and when i part exchanged it 3 years later had still only done 44,000 miles.I wonder if it's still around ?

_Sim! Esse nome veio da gringa, é o apelido dele na gringa, já que a fabricante dele na Europa era a Opel, antiga divisão da GM por lá, ele foi inspirado no Impala Americano. Juntaram Opel + Impala = Opala. Decidiram usar o apelido como nome oficial aqui no Brasil devido a ser diferente e ter uma pedra com esse nome bem conhecida por aqui._

Hi, very nice one hope one day mine will be restored same way. Can you also tell where is VIN number for Opel Commo A coupe stamped on? Because now there is only aluminum plate. I found info that it might be near top radiator hose between radiator and engine. But on mine there is nothing - it is smooth. So maybe you know other places where VIN is?

Hello. When you stand in front of the car, you can see the VIN number in the midlle in front of the radiator.

Ein Reihen-Sechszylinder Guss Motor von Opel läuft leise ist langlebig zuverlässig und robust, genauso wie bei Audi die sparsameren 5 Zylindermotoren, die neu leider nicht mehr zu haben sind. Die neuen Alumotoren sind zwar leichter ,aber werden schnell heiß und verbrauchen mehr Öl. Auch sind die Arbeiten bei V Motoren zur Erneuerung des Zahnriemens länger und die Reparaturkosten höher. Es kommt immer wieder vor, dass deutsche Autos ohne Erlaubnis ihrer Besitzer unfreiwillig in ein Nachbarland auswandern. Allradantrieb bedeutet ,dass man erst dort stecken bleibt ,wo der Abschleppwagen nicht mehr hinkommt. ,,Immer schneller können uns nun die Vorfahren nachfahren und die Nachfahren davonfahren.´´
