Great video 10/10 Edit: I got all the materials ready but probably only have 2 attempts at it so I dont wanna ruin it, I'll either upload or comment again how it turned out. The main problem rn is trying to see how its gonna fit my face, I may use a cloth mask and glue it around the mask so that if it does stick to it it shouldn't be too much of a problem since it will protect me for the itching Edit 2: I started and am liking it so far. It took me a while to get use to hot glue but good so far

Thank you so much for this video!! My son is wanting me to make him a sinister clown mask out of burlap and I was doing it all wrong!!!! I was trying to cut pieces then sew them together which was a disaster because the burlap unravels! Ugh. Glad I watched this before I spent hours pulling my hair out 😉

I am glad to help. When I first started making burlap masks I would do the same thing. After failing like 4 times I came up with this method.

what can i use besides a heat gun?

Anything that can get hot enough to burn the burlap. A heat gun works best though.

Hello thank you so much for replying to my message. Like your video, but the one I want to make is on you tube called Jesus Burlap. It is just less than a min. long. If you can watch it you may give me an idea what the hardening agent is. It hangs on a wall. They sell them for $168 dollars on ebay. I thought a foam head with a plastic mask that had more detailed noses lip ect. would be a base. But how would I get it off? Thank you
@DryFire510 жыл бұрын
Yeah I see what you are saying. I will be making a tutorial soon on how to make a cheep head cast that you could use for the base so stay tuned. As for the hardening agent that is a little harder to pin point. What I might suggest though would be to make your head cast and secure the burlap to is using "Elmers Art Paist" mixed with water concoction. I would do test runs before trying this on your actual project though, to make sure you don't put to much glue or water together. It will be a lot like working with paper mache if you have ever done that. Here is a video on a women who makes small burlap sculpture useing the same technique kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYekmql3rMqMmas. Let me know how it goes. happy sculpting!
@DryFire510 жыл бұрын
Forgot to respond to how to get it off. What will you be using it for? Is it going to be a mask you wear? Or are you going to hang it on a wall? If you need to take the base head cast out; in my up coming tutorial I will show you how to get a head out of a cast without damaging the sculpture terribly.
@4777lynette10 жыл бұрын
DryFire5 How sweet of you to reply again, Thanks. Will be excited to see you new video, The mask will hang on the wall, the one I have seen is hollow in the inside if that is the way to say it. It is very light weight but it keep its shape.
@DryFire510 жыл бұрын
I understand. I personally would leave the head of it. It will keep it from caving in if bumped into or dropped.
@4777lynette10 жыл бұрын
DryFire5 So keep the foam head front and back together while building it, then cut it in half (the back) when I hang it on the wall? PS Did you view the video I told you about?

hey how I was wondering how to do the teeth? I wanted to do something this Halloween. I usually take like 10 or more people and We all buy our own mask from the store. but this year I wanted to do something different. I wanted to personally make everyone A unique mask. Each from different material. so for one of the mask I decided to do burlap, and I've watched this video but I really wanted to know how to do the Teeth on the first mask!! it was super creepy looking. is there a way you can tell me how? lol
@DryFire58 жыл бұрын
I used a type of clay called "Creative Paper Clay". I will have a link at the end of this comment on where you can find it. You will need a foundation to glue the teeth too once you have them made. I have a foam foundation inside the mask you see in this video. Mold the teeth to your fitting, then hot glue them to your foundation. After that is done, and your burlap mask is almost complete. Glue the foam foundation into the burlap. Hope this helped. If you need further help, I will try to put out a short video on how to do so. Good luck www.amazon.com/Creative-Paperclay-Modeling-Compound-16-Ounce/dp/B0013J0HI2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468931181&sr=8-1&keywords=Creative+Paper+Clay

how do you add the teeth?

I had to build a foam jaw structure that is hidden underneath the burlap, that the clay teeth are glued too.

What would be good to line the inside of the mask in so that you won't feel itchy with the mask on? And how would you apply it?
@DryFire59 жыл бұрын
DCMarvel2009 Like I show in the video I just use a ski mask under to help with the itching. I would have to experiment with fabric to make a lining. Maybe do the same thing with the burlap but with a smoother material, just make your stitching cleaner and more precise. Then go over that with the burlap and as you are stitching the seems, stitch the burlap to the lining you made.

If you are referring to the burlap mask. I go over everything you will need in the video. If you are referring to the skull looking mask that goes on the inside of my brothers scarecrow mask. You can ether go to Obelisk Productions and watch their tutorial on how to make a hard custom mask. Or I can film another tutorial on how to build it.
