Hi , Dean I watched your video again , I also had issues with my kick starter staying down , and found that in my box of spares there was a wider stronger coil spring 5/16 vs ⅜ I think .you've probably got it all sorted by now . 👍

Hello Dean, thank you for this video. I am repairing the kickstart quadrant and Rachel gear on my Burman CP. There seems to be quite a distance between the quadrant and the associated ratchet gear it works fine but it is quite on the outside edge of the teeth. By the looks of your quadrant and my old worn out quadrant maybe that’s the way it was built. Did you find that the teeth mesh on the very outer ends of the gears also? Thank you, Doug

There doesn't seem to be much consistency in these parts. I've had parts that mesh quite deeply together and others that look like they aren't even from the same gearbox. Best to find a few different quadrants and ratchets, and see which ones fit together the best. Some kickstarts have different ratios as well, ie square 4, so you might have a mismatch of parts in your box.

Hey Dean, I'm overhauling my gearbox at the moment and was wondering where you ordered your new bushes. Thanks Mart

A great help to me as I have to strip a CP gearbox this winter. It looks like the clutch pivot is different from my broken aluminium lug, was it a modification you made? Thanks Paul

Hi Paul. The cp box is pretty easy to work on you wont have any problems. The clutch pivot on mine has been broken in the past, and repaired by fabricating a block of steel which was then tapped to take a screw and then threaded into the casing after.filing the case flat. I'll get some close ups of it in the reassembly video as soon as my spares arrive.

Hi Dean, my cp gearbox has got too much end float in the clutch drum , I haven't measured it properly as yet but it has got at least .060" I'd imagine .005" to .010" would be better , if I had less clearance and the drum was "in" it would help my alignment to the primarily sprocket , what controls the end float on that shaft which passes through the rear sprocket , it must have a worn spacer ? . Cheers .
@thra5herxb12s2 жыл бұрын
The end float is taken up by the nut and spacer on the kick start ratchet and is pretty much a part of the design of the whole gearbox. 60 thou is nothing for something as primitive as this, and perfect alignment of the sprockets isnt crucial at all. If the alignment is miles out, you might have the wrong thickness spacer behind the engine sprocket.

Do the bushes get sufficient lube with semi fluid grease ? I have some 320 gear oil and wondered if that would be 1 step better , thanks for your reply I have a 49 Matchless g80 rigid. Cheers.
