Triumph / Royal Enfield 'Trifield' 500 trials - gearbox roughness issues looked at and discussed.

Now, with the gearbox assembly removed, it looks like I may have found the culprit for the noise and roughness i experienced while road testing this machine the other day. I may, at a push, also need to fit a replacement mainshaft sliding gear to eliminate what felt like it tried a couple of times to jump out of third gear, but one thing at a time!

G'day Paul, thinks that gearbox has had a hard life and that selector plate looks warn, My Royal Enfield Bullet 500 with a Five speed gearbox wouldn't select neutral because of a warn selector plate, replace it and all fine, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

That gearbox inner cover is later and would be a partner to the later shafts, although the selector plate is really early.

Makes logical sense to me and the line is clearly visible. Would the scuffing be responsible for the oils appearance when you opened her up?

The oil was emulsified by water, I was told this machine stood with the entire engine submerged during a flood!

Is it a 350 or a 500?

It is stamped as a 350 21, but the owner believes it has a 500 top end, while I am not so sure ...
