Thank you Paukan Cruises! paukan.com/ Our last day of our Irrawaddy River Cruise was a great one! We sadly left the ship after 10 days and visited a pagoda with what Buddhists believe is the holiest Buddha statue in the world - the only one built during his lifetime. Next we got to see how the gold leaves that are placed on the statue are pounded for hours and hours. And lastly we visited the largest book in the world. We ended the day with traditional Burmese Barbecue, and that’s a wrap on our incredible Myanmar trip!!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left January 10, 2016. We started this KZbin channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

It`s because women are impure once a month. Their impurity would defile this holy place. But since they don`t want to check if a woman is menstruating, they stop to allow women at all.

Hello Kara and Nate, I have been following your channel since Peru and I think you guys are great. I am a Burmese and I would like to correct you on why "ladies are not allowed" at Shwedagon. It is not because the pagoda is so holy Nate, it is about traditions. Buddhism has no separation between sexes but the Burmese culture does. I hope you don't find this comment hostile. My intentions are to just inform. Keep up the great work!

It's all about the country and how serious those traditions are, here in the U.S. we had a lot of traditions that stood for a long time, (not as long as buddhaism of course) and now you get in trouble at school if you wish someone a Merry Christmas.it's a political world, I wonder how long Burma will last.

2:16 "Ladies" are not allowed. It's actually not in any Buddhist canons. It's just a part of Myanmar's culture that gets mixed up with religion. So, it's kinda sad to see such an outdated tradition being allow in a country where arguably the most peaceful religion "Buddhism" is the dominant one. Lovely nation with lovely people.

Ikr. These people give Buddhism a bad name. There is no mention of men and women being different in terms of holiness in Buddhism. Buddha also say that gender does not matter when practicing Buddhism when people ask him if only men can be Buddha. But they still make "ladies not allowed" signs. And the men sit wherever they want so there's even less space for women to pray. Culture is truly a bane of religion.

ah yes, lets deny women of access to worship and treat them as less holy because they will distract men and their "holy" process. of course no one should be doing anything inappropriate with monks. But why make "exclusive zones" for men near stupas? A man can drink alcohol and do all sorts of unholy things but somehow that still makes him holier than a devout woman?

Shine Aung it's not your fault, and I truly understand different cultural beliefs and traditions. My son's wife is Hmong, so many of their traditions were hard to understand at first. Western women have a hard time understanding the cultural differences between men and women. We have fought for equality for so long here that to see it still practiced in your culture is shocking to us. But, again, not your fault, just try to understand our dismay.

At Burmese homes, woman are mostly the ones who do daily paying homages, offering Buddha flowers, water, food, and light or fragrances, cleaning and maintaining the Shrine where Buddha Image that represents real Buddha stays. So they have to go near the Buddha Image to clean tto maintaim to take or place things. As Burmese people believe Shwedagon Pagoda, enshrined with the Lord Buddha's hair relics, and this Maha Muni Image @Mandalay having placed together with the Lord Buddha when He is Alive to copy the Essence and Aura of the Buddha to be worshipped and cherished by the people and the generations to come in the absence of the Lord Buddha as a Clone Image of the Buddha. So, they cherished and highly-valued These Sacred Buddhisy Heritages, taking to the very heart that the lands where These Heritages lie are Sacred Land and take off their foor wearings, head wearings and women keep a distance and worship humbly from This Great Buddha Image as It were the Real Buddha Himself. Every Morning, a Vernerable Monk offer cleaning scented water and perform Face Cleaning Ceremony of the Buddha Image as a daily duty since age-old time.

I think you guys are misunderstanding that 'women are not allowed' part. Women are in fact allowed to go inside the temple you will see @ 1:55 there are women there. But women are just not allowed to go on top of the Buddha statue (the reason could be Buddha and monks are not meant to get too close). Hope that makes sense.

Oh, I LOVE those mushrooms. I want to say they are Enoki mushrooms? So flavorful. We buy them in a predominately Asian market called Ranch 99 here in California. Never thought to wrap them in bacon and grill them... oh, baby!

Seeing karas reaction to food is how you really know food is good. Basically when it looks like she's having a spiritual experience that's the best stuff! Lol!! I just binge watched your entire vlog over the last couple months and I'm getting to the end. 😥😱😭😭😭😭😭 I'm so sad!!!!! I think my favorite part really was Asia in the beginning. You guys were so new! I love it. Made me love Asian food too. Turns out they have a pretty good selection in the frozen section of Trader Joe's. I also loved Ireland and Italy because those are seriously on my list.

I love your videos so much!!!! You guys inspire me to travel to places I would of never thought I'd want to go! Before watching this video I would of never wanted to go here but you guys have captured their kindness and genuineness when other people look it over.... I can't wait to start traveling! BTW: Can you do an updated video on how you first started out traveling... How you got traffic on your vlogs.. How you make money to travel etc! That would be very helpful for people trying to start their own travel vlog!

Men need to take responsibility of their own minds and thoughts. Don't blame women for distracting them or seducing them to act out their lust. One has to take responsibility for their own actions. Not allowing women to the holy place is ridiculous.

One thing to warn is that women are not allowed to sit beside the monks on seats, on bus because of traditional rule. You will see that no women on bus don't sit beside monks although there is free spot.Another beautiful things about Myanmar is that most people gives their seats on bus to elder person, disabilities, pregnant women, nuns, monks willingly. If you have many things in your hands like umbrella or books, they will ask may I hold it for you and hold them until you reach your destination bus stop.

For all u who are commenting on women part ..actually it is not a part of buddhist practice anyware in the buddhist countries ..being myself a buddhist. ..as far as myanmar is concerned. .i think it is their old pre buddhist practice may be inspired from hindu religion because it is present in many hindu temples in india....but i hope this practise should go away in myanmar to follow the true teachings of buddha based on women equality. ..

I've always loved this concept. You have all the ingredients lined up, and then you have them grilled while you wait. It just looks so delicious!! Now I really want some BBQ. Bulgogi beef over rice is one of my all-time favorite dishes. I wish we had somewhere like that nearby. But in the States, that same meal would probably cost $20 or more.
