We don’t normally do this, but we feel the need to answer a couple of questions we’ve gotten since posting our Myanmar series. They are #1 Why we came to Myanmar even though there are horrible things happening in parts of the country. #2 Why we chose not to go into detail about it. Honestly, we didn’t feel like it was our place to explain the complex issues going on in this country. There are plenty of professional journalists and media companies doing that already. The information is available if people want to know more about it. We think it is important to be educated about what is happening and we encourage anyone to do so who is unaware of it. That being said, this is a travel channel. We have never talked about politics and don’t plan to. We feel like there’s already a ton of negativity on the internet and we choose to focus on the positive. We talk about the best things a country has to offer - the food, the culture, the nature, the people. That’s what our channel is about. It's what we have always done, and Myanmar was no different. Just because we don’t talk about something in our videos, does not mean we are completely ignoring it or don’t care. What is happening is tragic and our hearts break for the people going through such horrific experiences, but we don’t know if regurgitating information that is already all over the media is helpful or productive. What we do know is that an entire country should not be judged by the poor decisions of their leaders. Many should be able to relate personally. We went to Myanmar to show that they are so much more than that. Yes, our Visa fee probably went into the pockets of the wrong people, but our money also went to countless local people who have nothing to do with the horrible things happening, and they are suffering too. They are some of the kindest and gentlest people we have ever met. That’s who we went to Myanmar for. There is so much beauty in this country and we think it’s worth recognizing. Thank you to all of the people who have watched and have been supportive of these videos! Sorry for the long post, we hope this clears things up for everyone.

Kara and Nate you guys should have avoided going there is first place, they don’t have a dictator who is doing all the tragic things but a prime minister who is a nobel winner and elected by Myanmar people and I’ve not seen protests in there country for what’s happening, just justifications and propaganda
@travelbugbee6 жыл бұрын
Kara and Nate thank you! People should stop focusing on the negatives about a country that most media talk about! People like you guys show a country for it's local people and natural beauty, not it's bad politics x

Well, that's a more honest and level-headed response than I could have ever expected...from a seasoned politician. You know what you are doing, you are doing it to the best of your ability, and we come along for the ride if we like it. Very often the long lens that we view the world through ( if we aren't a Nate or a Kara ) Makes us feel that we can judge, and harshly. We have the information, but no skin in the game. However, people at the sharp end - the Generals and the Presidents and so on - rarely come into our personal orbit, and it is incredibly difficult to comprehend the things they do. The people who /do/ come our way are very often the ones carrying the burdens imposed by these "leaders". And in Myanmar I see an amazing people, who are as righteous as any, yet who just do not judge. If I could, I'd like to find the place that my Great - Great- Grandfather and his brothers founded in the Indian Hill Country. They were all Doctors, Engineers, and Teachers, serving with the British Army in India. One of the places they fetched up at - and were all in the same place - was so remote, and so incredibly poor, that the lads built them a school, a clinic, some houses, and set up a large Tea Plantation that was to pay for it all. Find those stories, or make them yourselves, and you find the real treasure of a nation.

I support you completely in your stance regarding the political/cultural troubles occurring in the SouthEast Asian region. There are heinous tragedies occurring all over the world and, in spite of what may occur, life goes on. We should also embrace the Spirit of Peace that also manifests itself in troubled times. Stay positive, there will always be something to complain about and those who will remind us of such.

Thank you to Kara and Nate for showing the world how beautiful Everyday people of Myanmar are. As a native from Myanmar, I feel like we are misrepresented by the media with the ongoing politics and are overshadowed by the atrocities that they have painted us to be. Your videos are heartwarming and beautiful, capturing the essence of local life in every single country that you’ve visited. You guys are such an inspiration. ❤️

Misrepresented!! killing of thousands & the displacement of hundreds of thousands. Genocide is being carried out by government & army as confirmed by the UN & you think your being misrepresented? Your a complete idiot. Nothing beautiful about Myanmar just rivers of blood!!
@pb1pb5816 жыл бұрын
RICKSHAWMAN247 - you can't blame only them. the way one community breed & destroy the local culture everywhere in the world, it makes people frightened. its not only a story of myanmar!
@autumnrose39436 жыл бұрын
Apparently the locals are supporting and agreeing with this race genocide. That is not misinterpretation. You must be one of them? Dont be on the wrong side of history.
@tyffanietun13776 жыл бұрын
Winter Storm the fact that you said ‘apparently’ means that you’re not very sure of your sources. And history is being written by the winners, in this case, Burmese people are portrayed as bad people who ‘support’ the atrocities that are happening? I mean, believe what you will but I’m just stating that most local people are just living their daily lives the way you are too. Bless your heart. :)
@pb1pb5816 жыл бұрын
Winter Storm - I think that's a very primitive way of looking at it! No one on earth take pleasure in loss if lives! people must try to see beyond what-they-have-been-shown & find out the actual cause of such things happening all over the world!! world knows well how two of the largest faith system push their agenda on earth by any mean of hook or crook!!

Get your head out of your ass!! I might not be able to help, but at least I'm not promoting a country & it's government that is responsible for genocide. RICKSHAWMAN247 you're just a miserable person looking for a reason to project your anger. Get over yourself, seriously.. How about you just don't watch their Channel and do something productive with your life? I see how many messages you have left, you clearly have way too much time on your hands..
