I remember my father used a similar pen during 1960s. I remember more because I tore off that label once, and got a proper treatment! 😆

Yes these Burnham pens would have been very popular in the 60s. Cheers.

Excellent! I'm a 'price label avoider' - so I avoid buying pens with price labels leaving them to other who prefer them! Very nice pen, nice colour and great feature with the interchangeable nib.👍👍

Thanks, yes it is all down to personal prefrence. Thanks for your comments.

What a lovely pen and nicely presented in the video. Coincidentally, I've picked up a similar B48 that just needs a new sac to practice pen repair on. The label question is interesting. I acquire pens to use, so it's hard not to damage the label anyway. I end up removing them.

Glad you enjoyed it. Pop a new sac in the pen and enjoy it. Im sure eventualy they would wear off if the pen is in use.

Lovely pen Stef! I’d keep the label ..

I resacced my Burnham B48, but the barrel cracked as I refitted the section. 😢 Nonetheless, it's a beautiful writer, and looks gorgeous. I now have a B49 in red marbling, which has a wonderful nib. They look great together. And the B48 matches my De La Rue and my Conway Stewart 15. Interesting to compare them side by side. I'm given to understand that the Esterbrook J and the Osmiroid 65/75 Rolatips are also interchangeable with the B48, though I haven't tried that. Wrt labels: I'd generally avoid, as other people do look out for those pens, and, while they don't bother me, all my pens are users rather than collectors items, and any label will wear off after a while in my care. I don't remove the labels from my new Pilots, but they go naturally with time. I hope Peter really enjoys this superb and beautiful piece of great design.

Oh dear, as long as you can still use it with the crack. Yes i have read other nib units will fit these pens. I think the labeled pens are more for the collectors. Cheers 👍

When I buy a pen with a label on, I tend just to keep it in a collection because of its condition. Also if the label is stuck to the pen great care should be taken in removing it especially with casiein PENS because they can easily be damaged. by water
@grandmiapensАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your opinions. Yes casiein does not like water. Cheers

The nib of mine is a "Burnham B48 Fine England". I need to replace the sac. What sac number # do you recommend?
@grandmiapensАй бұрын
Yes i think it is the same ? I think this one was a No 17 sac. Good luck

If I was a collector I would leave the label on. In this case I would try to find an unlabeled pen for use.
@grandmiapensАй бұрын
Yes i think the collector would keep the label. Thanks for watching.

I’d keep the label once I’d removed it. It’s part of the pen’s history. A puritan would disagree! The box of nibs reminds me of an old traditional stationer I used to visit (late 80s). He was an old boy at Kingsway in London. He shop was part of what was once known as Pen Corner. This would have been 1930-50s. Parker would have been manufacturing pens and selling etc at Bush House opposite his shop. Waterman’s would have been near to where this chap’s shop was. You would have loved it, pen wise he had more new old stock than he had new! When time travel becomes possible, I’ll take you there!!

Mmm, many different views each to their own i think. Ha ha it would be great to be able to time travel, what we would see im sure would be very interesting. Thanks 👍

Labels? Easy… I decide quickly if the pen is a “keeper”. If so, remove the label (keeping safe for reference). If not a keeper I’ll leave the label on and sell when time’s right.

I would remove as I would be irritated by them. I take the view that it’s my pen, I write with it so it’s my decision. People who argue about depreciation in monetary value should stick to traditional financial products and leave pens to pen lovers.

All personal prefrence regarding the label, some will remove it some will keep it. Thanks for your view.
