Travis, you probably know all of that Ash from the burn is going to be fabulous fertilizer! A simple recipe of well composted manure and wood ash one time at the beginning of the season in the spring for figs is all they need! That simple recipe will shock you how much growth your figs will put on!

Wow. Pretty cool expansion there with your fig tree enterprise Travis! Wonder if the fig revenues this year could provide a means to re-invest into some infrastructure with another greenhouse. Have a green house for the figs, and one for the garden so you won't be jammed up for space during seed starting time. Cheers. Chuck in Jensen Beach FL.

Glad to hear the figs don’t all leaf out at the same time. I have a Brown Turkey that is several years old and fully leafed out. The LSU Gold and Violet de Bordeaux that I bought from you last summer haven’t shown any action this spring at all. We’ve been getting some temps in the 80’s here in S TX but dropped into the high 20’s a couple of days in late January. I was afraid I might have lost those 2 but won’t worry for a couple more weeks.

I have a Brown Turkey my mom planted probably 20 years ago and it was near death with only one leaf, I dug it up and moved it to the opposite side in full sun. I have been giving it a half shovel of fresh chicken manure about once a week for 2 1/2 months and it is growing a lot. Three feet tall and it has 40 or 50 leaves. It gets water everyday. Now temperatures are rising it seems to have really accelerated the growth. Maybe just maybe I will get at least one fig this year.

I got a conadria from you last spring and it grew pretty massive compared to the others I got. It has 15-20 of those little figs growing as well as a bunch of leaves

That was a nice little surprise left by the guys cutting down the trees. A couple of them had moved down here to enter a drug recovery program. They shared their stories with me and it was great to hear they were back on the right track.

How are you going to get around the roots? We have pine trees and the roots go everywhere.
@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm 2 ай бұрын
We just plant between the stumps. That's what we did with our existing orchard that used to be pine trees.

I’m clearing about half an acre of pine/oak mix and to plant a food forest of several different trees. Are you worried about all the nutrients from the burned being concentrated in one area poisoning the soil? Or have you looked into it?

No I'm not. Our current veggie garden had several piles of trees burned on it.

We do in the winter months. But usually once we start cutting grass 1-2x a week, they move.

I saw that ant pile by your fig tree… how do you control your ant population. I live in MS and we are overrun with fire ants. We’ve been using diatomaceous earth to try and thin them out but they just move 2 feet over and begin multiplying again? 😏
@LazyDogFarm

Men love to burn, my ex burned our dry weeds every year on an acre we didn't use for anything. He actually let the fire get away from him one year and set our son's car on 🔥. Yep that young man was upset with his dad 😅 Figs must be good business for you to invest so much into growing so many, or you're OCD on figs 😂
