Burning Smell? CHECK THESE 2 THINGS before it catches on fire!

BMW F10 N57 Diesel 535D Burning Smell. Things to check.
MAKE SURE ENGINE IS COLD BEFORE YOU DO THIS!!
If you usually smell a burning smell when you turn on the heat inside the car, rarely you will see light smoke coming from out of the hood. , but that burning smell exists after driving.
1. Check back of the block, if oily, replace valve cover, or try a new valve cover gasket.
2. Check the PCV hose (ribbed hose) it may be cracked, replace but your better off installing a catch can. This will keep you from having sticky intake, swirl flaps, valves, etc.. the sooner the better.
