I think you forgot the most important thing in your Review. The great music of this Game. Sure, there is no licensed music in this, but the composed music is just epic. Each racetrack or location got his own iconic composed music. And the special feature, in my opinion, is that there are always two different versions of each track. The normal soundtrack for each racetrack plays in the background all the time, but when you boost, a new alternate "rockier" version of the soundtrack plays along your boost session. When you loose your session, the normal soundtrack will fade in. I think it's a great way to push your boost session, the alternate soundtrack pumps the adrenaline right up in your veins. It's just an awesome feature, and I never see it before.

One of my favourite racing games of all time. The Japanese Muscle was the most underrated car, in the right hands, you were unbeatable once you unlocked it. Also is 7:10 the reason why the Custom Series Championship was so pants-shittingly hard? It just might be.

It's good timing you choose to do the Burnout series right now, as the next NFS game you are yet to review is 2010's Hot Pursuit, which is developed by Criterion as well. It would seem like a logical follow-up review to both NFS Shift and Burnout 3: Takedown.

@gremlinstdm gaming I for some reason always had the perception the game was released in 2009. Then again maybe if I knew anything about the game excluding its generally underwhelming reception I would of known. Edit: it's because of the colour choice made for the boxart making it look like the game would have a dark and gritty colour pallet like most wanted 2005.

One criticism you forgot to mention is in regards to the crash mode. There is a hidden time limit, and if you're unlucky, the event will end before you can rack up a bigger score. It's quite annoying, and I'm glad they adjusted it in later games.

To be honest, I actually think that burnout 2 is my favorite, now that I look at it again.. The crashes looks spectacular here, and the camera lingers long enough, for you to enjoy the spectacle.. The burnouts after this one, the camera is way too close to the car during crashes, and no drone shots, plus the camera cuts too fast away again.... Yeah, Burnout 2 is the best one :-)

There's a reason I have over 70 hours clocked on this game. The controlls feel so tight as it truly feels like the best Burnout game for pure racing mechanics. It also helps that the soundtrack is super kick ass and makes the races feel much less mundane. Also, one thing that makes this game super easy to still enjoy today is that it was the first ever PS2 game to support progressive scan (480p) and pair that with widescreen and surround sound support, this game is still a visual and auditory masterpiece in 2020

Even though it doesn't offer as much compared to the later games in the series, 2 is still my favourite burnout game due to it's excellent force feedback wheel support (on ps2), manual gearbox option (which would be removed from 3 onwards) and it's much more 'pure' arcade gameplay rather than feeling more like a console game...

So I found a really awesome PS2 HDMI cable thing from a company named Pound. There's a lot of reviews on it on youtube from big collectors like MetalJesusRocks. The adapter sharpens the image a lot and upscales the video from 480i to 720p. It really improved my recordings a lot for ps2 games and it may be worth looking into. they make one of these adapter per console thats out there and cost around 30usd. Granted I think your video looks good anyways but it does make text a lot sharper with this cable.

I used to play this game for hours and hours just trying to unlock cars (don't think I ever did lol) but I had fun and that's what matters. I never actually owned burnout 3 but I played it at my aunts a lot and when someone said "we are the lazy generation" I instantly remembered everything about that game and how awesome that was too. I'm liable to repeat this comment in later videos, when relevant, but I seriously think Criterion was ONE game away from making the absolute perfect Burnout. By the time they made Paradise, they had the driving engine, the damage modelling, the know-how, and four games' worth of pedigree to compile one last, impossibly fun, polished-to-perfection, open world Burnout, complete with everything from the explosions from Revenge to the technicolor vibrancy of Takedown, all with a proper and complete Crash mode. Licensed cars were the worst thing to happen to Criterion. They've never been able to work their magic since.

TDUShelby You’re right, they can’t make good damage models for liscenced cars. And plus burnout cars look cooler imo. They just need more customisation in the next burnout game and aspects from previous games, car explosions ,burnout revenge traffic checking, crash mode, etc. But yeah there’s so much potential in another burnout game and I really want the series to continue.

I love Burnout 2, but the last pursuit in the game is next to impossible, at least in the U.S. version. The target car is faster than you are. It can take up to 30 seconds to catch it and then it will shoot off into the distance, regardless of whether you hit it or not. It is categorically impossible to beat that pursuit by catching up to the car, hitting it once, letting it zoom off into the distance again and repeating. You will never be able to hit it 10 times before it reaches the finish line. You either have to get REALLY lucky and hit it multiple times each time you catch up to it, or manage to cause it to crash. I've never been able to do it. There also seem to be sections of the track where it's impossible to catch up to it, no matter how perfectly you drive. Beyond that, I love crash mode in this game. In fact, I like it better than in Burnout 3. B3 became more about hitting the bonus items than just causing good crashes. Plus, the lack of real slo-mo during the crashes makes them look much less epic.

You can beat the custom muscle legitimately it's just incredibly difficult requiring a really good start, lots of boosting by driving through oncoming, wall cornering, and no more than 1 crash.

@@Civilized-Joke In the US version? I tried that pursuit probably hundreds of times and could never get more than eight hits. There were times I filled the boost bar, used it, caught up to the target car, and then before I could hit it, it sped off, while I was still boosting! In fact, any time you boost, he seems to get faster as well, making it take just as long to catch up. The only way I was eventually able to beat it was by making it crash. I wish I could say that I was able to do that through skill, but it was pure dumb luck. I was replaying that event for about the 20th time (that session) and I was trying to make it crash without much luck. I started over and was just trying to get to get in a position to cause a crash when he slammed head-on into a car and it gave me the win. I tried the European version (emulated) and it seemed easier. I used a fully unlocked save so that I wouldn't have to play through the whole game, and just played that one event. I didn't devote the time to actually beating it, but it seemed to be much easier to catch up to the target car, and I felt I could have beaten that one legitimately.
