When the F will someone do an open source game where we can dump and finish all this content, like the Driver community did with The Driver Syndicate, I hope no one is expecting Dangerous Driving to really take the place of Burnout 'cause I got it, and what a dumpster fire that is, they really need to change direction if they want to get there.
@tropixx_xlr15492 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with this one, since we'll never get another proper racing game that plays 100% like takedown or Revenge, then I hope we have another fan driven community made game or open source engine release that plays a lot like those two games and you would have a huge amount of mod support like ballisticNG. If the release is a carbon copy of the gameplay physics of takedown or revenge, who cares? It's better than nothing at all and that is exactly what we wanted, dangerous driving feels so clunky and dull that it makes it so hard to enjoy it as a spiritual successor to Burnout 3. So a burnout open source game with insane mod support would be absolutely ideal and times like this, this really is the only way since no developers will take that project on.

Yes! A Driver Syndicate comment in the wild! Also yeah, there's 3 different racing games that are by ex-Burnout devs that I know of, only two of them are out as of this comment, but neither of them have quite accomplished the title of Burnout successor

It’s a shame Wreckfest feels so flat and slow, it could have been a epic wrecking game for this generation. Trailout looks ok but doesn’t have the budget for what it needs to do.

Growing up with Burnout Revenge, Takedown and Point of Impact (in that order), when I first played Dominator it felt like I was playing a completely different franchise. I remember this game was shit on back in the day, but I was strangely captured by it. It still didn't hold a candle to Revenge (which was and still is my all time favorite), or any of the other entries I mentioned, but there was something really interesting about it. The art direction is... bizarre. On one hand, you have the User Interface which looks like something that would have been made by an AI after it was shown Takedown & Revenge, and told to upgrade it to 2007. It's hard to explain in writing, but the font choice (being that it is a default Windows font), the weird highway icons reminiscent of Revenge (which feel so... off in Dominator, like that little sign with the exclamation mark and all the empty space) and also the sound effects, which are again this weird hybrid between Takedown and Revenge combine together to make this presentation that is trying to be Burnout, but something is... seriously amiss. On the other hand, you have the really edgy, sort of horror vibes that Revenge was going for turned up to 11. Like the whole thing with the oil splatter (which, to my 10 year old mind was an analogy for blood) and the downright disturbing Trophy videos. I mean, the last trophy you unlock pretty much looks like a mangled corpse with all the cars crushed together and covered in oil (how can it _not_ be a substitute for blood? It has to be!) Anyway, the absurd presentation had me hooked, but as you pointed out the gameplay is really strong too. It's pretty much a more hardcore Burnout, with the whole boost chaining mechanics being brought back and also that game mode where you have to rack up points. I actually never managed to gold the last event in Dominator because you need a perfect, no-crash, full boost-chaining run in what I think is a 3 lap race. This has gone on long enough, but this video was really interesting and it just sparked all of these memories I had from this game. I love your channel and I hope you can start posting more often again!

I love it, any burnout game is a great one, I still think that takedown is the best in the entire franchise, but Revenge was very fun too, however the lack of a custom event mode like im takedown was disappointing, it made the replay value of Burnout Revenge incredibly limited, because how are you going to get the most out of the game if you already beat the world tour mode? Thankfully the debug quick start menu allows you to set up your own custom events with a limited selection of options, and that in itself is much better than nothing at all. Dominator corrected this problem by adding a custom event mode called record breaker, and that is so awesome.

I have to agree, the horror theme of Dominator was amazing and the 7 year old that I was back when the game released got seriously scared when the screen shatter happened for the first time. I actually thought that I broke the CRT's screen until I felt it with my hands and realised it was just an image layed on top of the menu! xD Oh and the Maniac events were amazing! Extremely frustrating but once you got it, it felt insane and it also taught you the importance of staying in oncoming no matter what. This gave me the confidence to drive on the wrong side when running away from people in Burnout 3 online races, just pure blind trust that nothing's gonna hit me as I drift around the corner!

I liked this game a lot. I think Alex Ward also preferred a bit more racing to smashing cars, which I think led to the removal of the insane traffic check in Paradise from Revenge.

man, it is so depressing when you find out the psp version of the game only weights half (if not, less) of the UMD capacity those tracks could've arrived, and could've been a lot more fun and add even more variety to the tracks I've been playing this game for a long long time, and it's a big part of my childhood, thanks for covering it in a video

for some reason i thought of a different unrelated game being documented (or rather game *series*) the PS2 WRC games most of the fully released content from those games were published and documented on youtube *but* with a few things missing the first WRC game has multiplayer-exclusive super special stages that i didn't find any mention of anywhere (sassy did talk about them but she thought they were unused) plus i don't have the full version of that game (only a demo in the PBPX-95506 demo disc) so i can't show those myself either

The fact that dominator is more heavier than revenge(almost 4 gb) if the cut tracks are actually in the game + the cut mode and cut series, it would take almost an entire dvd rom capacity(or more correct me if im wrong)

It's quite a shame that of all 45 cut tracks, only this longer version of Steeltown has a model to inspect. That's quite an egregious amount of ditched tracks, however, and not knowing full well if at least most of them were intended to be in the game at some point is sad :( We'll have to wait and see if anything else shows up.

I also find some people teach you how to extract textures from PS2 game using texmod which I also can't because my pcsx2 doesn't had direct3D9...
