Running about two and a half hours late, Amtrak Keystone #667 had quite a journey this day. Up near Rahway NJ, “downed utility wires” caused massive delays for trains in both directions.
This catenary issue resulted in many trains having electric current “arc”, resulting in burn marks on locomotives. Basically, electricity can jump out of the wires and make a big, bright spark. This is called "arcing." When this happens, the spark is so hot that it can burn and leave black marks on the train.
Regardless, trains eventually got moving again after emergency repairs were made.
Also this was a sweet hornshow from the engineer in Cab-Car #9649, beautiful horn!
