Burt Bacharach, legendary composer of pop songs, dies

Burt Bacharach, the singularly gifted and popular composer and Oscar winner who delighted millions with the quirky arrangements and unforgettable melodies of "Walk on By," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and dozens of other hits, has died at 94.
Bacharach died Wednesday at home in Los Angeles of natural causes, publicist Tina Brausam said Thursday.

I had to look and make sure I had not written what you said. That's how accurate it is and how old I am. Can you imagine life without his compositions decorating your soul? Why even try; we were insanely lucky to be around them as they spilled out of his very own spirit.

No, he really wrote the Soundtrack to My Life. I had an affair with him and lost him to CBSager in 1980. Spent 20 years trying to forget the actual Love of my Life. The stories I could tell....

Wow. I just learned of Burt's passing today, via KZSU Stanford. The DJ devoted a set of music to him consisting of "I Say A Little Prayer For You" from Aretha, "This Guy's In Love With You" from Herb, "What The World Needs Now Is Love" from Jackie, "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" from Dionne and "The Look Of Love" from Dusty. These are songs from when i was a kid in the '60s. All Burt and Hal's. DJ takes a break to run down the list. Glad he did since i was wiping away a tear or two by then. Then says "A few years ago, he did a collaboration with Elvis Costello...." and plays "God Give Me Strength". It was amazing!! I had no idea this even happened,,,well maybe a weak memory just now,,,,I never heard anything. Rest In Peace, Burt Bacharach :(

Now I ask you, what would a Bacharach song be without the lyrics of Hal David? In fact, what would most of Bacharach's songs be (take "Alfie" for example) without David's lyrics? Why is it that Burt always gets the praise and Hal David is never mentioned?
