For me, "the day the music died" was just this month with the passing of Burt Bacharach. I remember my brother Ric taking me up the street to the Studio City Theater to see "Casino Royal" starring David Niven as an aging James Bond. There's a hilarious love scene in the film that is scored with Dusty Springfield singing "The Look Of Love". Well, I was only 10 years old but I was hooked. Oddly more hooked by his catchy melodies and changing time signatures than I was by the rock and roll of the same era. I don't know if many 4th graders would choose "Promises, Promises" and "What the World Needs Now" over "Stop In The Name Of Love" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" but there it is.
So In honor of Mr. Bacharach and his amazing partner Hal David, I give you a little medley of sorts of just a few of heir songs as performed by the King Family.
Warning: They're rather Squaresville, especially if compared to the soulful sound of Dionne Warwick and Ms. Springfield. Also with apologies to Mr. David, I end this collection with my version of "Alfie" as performed at my Christmas party a few years back.
